Nice video! The open earbuds are all the rage right now and there's a lot of videos talking about how you should forget bone conduction completely. However, most videos never seem to address just how much the open ear design may still muffle the sounds around you. In a scenario where you are in a quiet area and want to hear detail, the bone conduction headsets seem like the way to go. PLUS I imagine as a runner a hybrid or electric vehicle won't make a lot of noise. Blocking your ability to hear in any way is not good when the only giveaway that the car is coming is by the crunching of debris under the tires or a subtle hum.
You also did a great job talking about the buttons, usability, and technical aspects of the earphones. This video was helpful in making my decision on what is right for me. Thank you! 😁
Oh great I am really glad this helped you choose the right pair for you and thank you for leaving such a nice comment! Don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions before you make your final choice :) Claire
Awesome video-really, the best (about the bone- and open-phones) I’ve seem so far for runners. Thank you!
Oh thanks glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for a really informative lesson, I was about to purchase the Cleer Arc and thought I'd find out more about the usability as when I'm driving I listen to podcasts and didn't think it would be easy to answer the phone. Sounds like I need the Open run :) 💫
They are so much comfier!!! Put the ear plugs in if you need to block out surround sound tho
Nice vid it’s great how you addressed the functionality of the tap and swipe buttons are a lot easier I’m going with the shokz or even sunnto ones I been using pixel buds pro nightmare trying to adjust volume getting your finger in The right place cheers
Yep it's amazing how they release these things without seemingly having them tested by actual runners. They just need to send me a prototype and we could solve all the tiny things like this!
I find the bone conducting ones provide a higher degree of safety during some very specific scenarios (urban, high traffic). Anything that impedes your ability to hear is just riskier in my opinion, though I realize everyone will have their own acceptable levels of risk.
Me too, this is basically what I say in the review I think!
I have the OpenRun (actually, AfterShokz) and the Pro and have to say that I prefer the OpenRun. I find that the Pro's buzz and they are not fully waterproof. The real issue with bone conducting headphones is that the band can be slightly annoying. However, I think that the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.
Interesting, thanks for sharing, yes the lack of waterproofing in this latest model is disappointing for outdoor runners, agreed!
Thanks with the share, I have t he open run pros I do lilke them but they can be hard to hear on a busy street 4 sure
I find this too, I might start taking the ear plugs out with me for those situations
I really like my OpenRun Pros although wind noise can be a problem and I find that in very noisy environments such as busy roads the volume doesn’t get high enough to compensate what I’m hearing through my ears. Otherwise I find the Pros super comfortable and I forget sometimes that I’m wearing them. I tend to adjust tracks and volume via my Garmin watch so don’t really use the buttons on the Pro.
Yes this is exactly what I find too CP, I am thinking of taking the ear plugs they supply for those situations. Maybe just one would sort it. I hadn't thought about adjusting the volume through my watch, that's a good shout!
I just put my air pod pros into transparent mode and seems to work fine
Good for you! :)
I have no idea about the transparent mode. [I prefer some non-air-pods headphones/earbuds generally]. But now I know to check them again. Thanks.
You can't make a 20mins audio gear comparison without touching on audio quality....
