Chopping ice around those traps is about like Chopping Ice on a stock tank. You're pissed if you hit the float

I used to use my boot to smash down a deeper spot in those shallow runs for a colony to sit lower in and not freeze up so quickly. I also built some rectangular colonies that where only 4” tall by 6” wide for those special shallow runs.
I can’t believe you don’t use the colony trap itself to quickly scoop and strain the ice chips out? Certainly you’ve seen that trick? Definitely beats using your bare hands.
I never used rubber gloves when I trapped and now I’m paying the price. Take care of your hands now!

if your wanting to pull your earth anchors i use a trenching spade, i sink ut in right along my wire and push pull it after youve sunk it and they pull right out

It's cold here in w.n.y. too now that the snow is stopping,temps drop & wind rises. Some places got 70" of snow,I was 2 feet or so, 16" first night,sun melt more snow ect. Started 17th -18th. Just got prime & the weather ended it for most people & species. Game changer, mostly bait sets now & lots of work. Wouldn't bother myself till the orange army with draws,with musket season that's mid December. If a guy has a lot of gear & bait, & really broke ass he could slam all of them depending on temps till mid january when coons go skank. Then the rest till the end,think feb 15th? Or 28th?

Some people dont understand its not so simple. Those rats can hold their breath 12+ minutes. That's a long string of bubbles. Take a good trapper to read that trail. Luv your vids always J take it ez from Alberta

I have a terrible muskrat problem, at our pond. But I'm raising fish and Muskovee ducks so this trap looks perfect. Did you say the type of trap or could someone give me directions on finding one?

What size are the wood stakes? My stakes don't seem to hold the 110s tight enough

Did you know that the Common Muskrat (Ondatra zibethicus) is the largest extant rodent of the hamster family?
Drill a hole in that lath where the spring goes on the connibear and insert a nail. you can then twist the stake and the nail into the coil spring and it will stay put.
