This is an incredible series concept with a great execution and subject! Whiplash is one of my favorite movies, and I think that first shot of Miles Teller slowly ramping up his drumming is the perfect build-up to the drop of the rollercoaster that is the rest of the movie, so it’s cool to see Chazelle bring it up and offer his own perspective :D
Chazelle seems like the kind of film dork who is just so easy to talk to over several beers during a football game or something. Just a normal guy with big passions.
I love this series. Both directors really embrace the idea! You can tell they're relieved (a true break from promoting the movie and answering the same questions over and over!). Scott's was amazing!
I liked La La Land, but I can't get Babylon out of my mind. Hopefully it recovers some money during it's european run. It absolut deserves it, best movie of 2022.
@@majimasmajimemes1156i actually strongly disagree. With the rise of social media so many old movies and songs come to attention because people just see or hear a snippet, and then want more. It’s especially songs but older or ignored films as well.
we need a filmmaker like chazelle who is a metal fan. imagine whiplash or lala land but with metal musicians instead of jazz. the closest thing we've gotten was the sound of metal but that movie (a great one btw) focused more on things outside of music
It is one of the most exciting and at the same time frustrating movies of the year. There is some much great stuff but unfortunately it never quite comes together as a great movie.
Babylon was uneven (some truly bizarre choices in direction especially in the last hour), but Chazelle is still one of those directors I will be there day one to watch a film from. His visual eye for shots is just outstanding and elevates simple stories into such beautiful cinematic language. Hopefully someone can at least tell him “no” his next film though, I think he works better under the constraint of some control and input.
Yup, too bad for that ending montage. It's completely on the nose, much too aggressive totally unnecessary. Even without it last act feels way too drawn out, but with some better editing I think it would be much better. Here's hoping for an editors cut, maybe then it can get the love it deserves.
Love it. Every time someone takes me back to The Godfather with there view upon the genius of that movie, I want to see it again. Must be over 30 times by now...
Damien is such an incredible director. The amount of praise Babylong deserves set against how it actually did is huge loss to the industry: it clearly deserved recognition and the fact it didnt get much is a testament to how awful things have become... This seems to tie into the importance of marketing (as much as i hate that...). Id love to work with this guy someday.
@@matthewschwartz6607 it’s about Hollywood during the late 20s and early 30s. Personally I thought it was fantastic, but it’s gotten a lot of really positive and a lot of really negative reviews. I would check it out for yourself cause it seems to be divisive lol

La La Land was such a disappointment. The singing and dancing were lackluster. I started to watch it with 2 other people and we agreed to turn off the DVD. If you want to see a great musical, watch Chicago.
I watched it free in 2020; think the studio had an agreement to play it free on UA-cam then. I thought it was alright not anything mind blowing in my opinion. The use of colors is what drew me in but even now I'm struggling to pick any moment these actors/actresses did that stuck in my head...yeah nothing... Maybe it just wasn't my kind of film.
How is Babylon still not on streaming? It completely bombed. Stop trying to force this theatrical exclusivity with films that audiences have told you they won't go to the theatre to watch it.

Please continue this series. LOVE this concept
Whiplash really got me in the feels studying music growing up. It's such a reflection of how much work a musician goes through to even making music.
This video got me in the feels realising Whiplash came out 9 years ago now...ugh!
Great concept for a series from one of my favorite working directors. Please more!

He should’ve used that First Man shot in the ending montage of Babylon.

Agreed. Snubbed for Best Picture, but when are the Oscars ever right? I think people will look back on Babylon more kindly than it was received.

La La Land was the best out of all of them.

Whiplash makes La La Land look bad, it's an impossible masterpiece that tops most films in all film history, plus La La Land's ending was so-so
