I just picked up one of these for £18 , from a boot sale. Made from oak and mahogany, with a wooden threaded screw. So thanks for the tips, I'll see how I get on, or it might end up on ebay.
Did you build or buy that jig, Frank? Looks like a pretty expensive tool, considering the large wooden screw, etc. I’d certainly love to have one, though! Shooting boards just don’t work great for me, for some reason. (Also, thanks for the alcohol and water tip!)

Great tip for using alcohol. Also that is a nice jig. Any plans?
Nice, is there a problem keeping the plane from removing wood from the jig ? The alcohol water mix is new to me, love it.

I find a lot of fine woodworkers to be pretentious assholes. But you are an inspiration
