If I am an executor and need to make tax payments for the deceased, do I place my info in line 3? If not, then how do they know where to send the transcript? I have no access to the deceased family member's previous address. Thx for all the info.
You would use IRS Form 4506-T for your transcripts. You can use 1 form for multiple years, but there are limitations. Tax return transcripts and records of account (combined tax returns and account transcripts) are available for the current year and 3 prior years. Informational returns, such as Form 1099, W-2, or 1098 series, are available for up to 10 years. You may need to send multiple requests in certain cases.
I appreciate your knowledge and how you broke everything down. Question, can you use this form to obtain any 1099-A forms that were filed on the US PERSON, such as it was filed by the dealership or by a mortgage company and sent to the IRS without you knowing any better and they are trying to force you to pay them twice when they were paid already with the blank indorsement check that was signed at the time of either closing on the mortgage or driving the car out the dealer lot?
To my knowledge, everything that I've found on the IRS website says that you should contact the filer to request a corrected copy of Form 1099-A. You MAY be able to use IRS Form 4506-T to request a tax transcript (see links below). According to the IRS, you can use IRS Form 4506-T to request a 'Wage and Income transcript.' A wage and income transcript should allow you to see copies of information returns that were filed with your tax ID (W-2, 1098, 1099, etc). This doesn't specify Form 1099-A, but indicates that this is the general category of information forms that you can obtain a record for. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe this is your best bet: IRS Form 4506-T, Request for Transcript of Tax Return Article: www.teachmepersonalfinance.com/irs-form-4506-t-instructions/ Video: ua-cam.com/video/szu6_cH5QpY/v-deo.html

There really isn’t a provision for e signatures. However, you can get copies of your tax transcript by setting up an online account through the IRS website. You don’t need to send your ID to request a transcript.
You may need to contact the IRS about this. You wouldn't be able to use IRS Form 8822, since your father cannot give you power of attorney privileges. Form 4506-T will help you get tax transcripts for up to 3 prior tax years, but probably won't help you get tax transcripts from the 50s. However, the IRS probably won't talk with you about options unless you're able to prove executorship of your father's estate, or that you are a representative. You may need to file IRS Form 56, Fiduciary Relationship, before you get information. However, before filling out the form, you should call the IRS to see whether getting your father's tax records is possible, and what information you are able to obtain. Sir I’m trying to find old tax transcripts for social security for retirement benefits, do I have to file the 4506t? Is there a cost because I don’t see it on the insurrections?
There is not a cost to receive tax transcripts. You would file this tax form to obtain a tax return transcript, not the tax return itself. If you still believe this is the correct form, you would specify the type of tax return on Line 6. However, if you want to identify years not filed, you might have better luck creating a log in on the IRS website, then reviewing the tax information there. It should be fairly simple to notice missing tax years on your account.

@@teachmepersonalfinance I do have a material interest in the trust. Do I sign the signature section on the 4506-T form as a beneficiary? Does the IRS send the tax transcripts to the trustee or to my address?
@hellratus If you sign, and you can verify that you have a material interest in the trust, then you should be able to sign and expect to receive the pertinent tax information directly from the IRS without having to go through the trustee.
Thanks so much!@@teachmepersonalfinance
How far can you go back? The absolute furthest?
According to the form instructions: Return transcripts are available for the current year and returns processed during the prior 3 processing years.
@@teachmepersonalfinance the irs doesn’t have 2 years of my taxes filed, how can they only go back 3 years if it’s their mistake? What other form or transcript goes back 20 years?
@@Gabagoolll471 I don't know that the IRS records would go back 20 years--you'd have to ask them that question. According to the instructions for IRS Form 4506, the IRS makes tax records available for up to 7 years.
