Thank you Greg and Jumi for this wonderful episode of Malaysian food in NYC! I love seeing how you both enjoy all our Malaysian cuisine! I'm glad that there are Malaysian restaurants there that could fill your Malaysian food cravings, and also for those Malaysians living in NYC who misses home! Love the episode guys! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much, guys! Means a lot coming from two Malaysia locals. We are lucky to have places nearby to satisfy cravings for Malaysian food. You two live in a food paradise and one of our favorite countries we’ve visited so far. Can’t wait to come back and explore more!
Hello from Malaysia! Am super impressed with Greg knowledge in Malaysian food.. he can explain what is belacan, kaya, kuih, Yong tau foo, wok hei.... 👍
Fun fact, every Nasi Lemak, from different state of Malaysia, has different taste,to their sambal The spicyness goes up in the southern part of malaysia, while the sweetness goes up in the northen part of malaysia, and while I rarely taste, the borneo part of malaysia, most of my friends said it has a bitter taste to their sambal
Great video! My dad's older brother raised his family in Malaysia so I spent a month there when I was in high school. When I came back, I had my whole family eating roti canai lol. You won't find that exact dish in India, but rather it was adapted by the Indian community of Malaysia!
Thank you, Sue! Cool to learn about you spending a month in Malaysia - must have been amazing! We love the diversity of Malaysia and how it is reflected in the cuisine. Remember reading about the Indian connection with the Roti Canai, since Canai is pronounced like Chennai - very interesting!
Not accurate. Its from India. In Singapore its called roti prata derived from Bharata which means India in Sanskrit. Roti is also an Indian word for bread.
@@Rapture77 I believe it is accurate. That dish is an adapted version of Indian cuisine. See roti canai on wikipedia where it is considered a variation of porotta but does not exist in India. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roti_canaien.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roti_canai
Sue M. It is not accurate. I don’t know if the food even connected to Chennai but it is originated from India. The word Roti means bread while the word Canai is a verb of how the dough is made. Canai is a Malay verb.

The best cuisine on Earth in my totally unbiased opinion haha. Glad to see there's a Malaysian community in NYC. The Nasi Lemak looked pretty awesome! Definitely the quintessential Malay dish for sure. Loved this episode guys!

Thanks a lot! We love the cuisine and can’t wait to go back to Malaysia and really explore the food scene. Cool to learn Andy is Malaysian! We do have a solid selection of Malaysian cuisine here
Very excited to learn more about this cuisine. We haven't tried a lot of Malaysian. That coffee shop has a very cool vibe. We need to try Kaya toast! We're gonna have to look for a place that makes it here.
@@FoodandFootprints We don't have sambal belacan with our char koay teow though. Sambal cili is added when frying the noodles but not sambal belacan. And definitely not on the side. IMO, a good plate of CKT comes to the table as served. No need add condiments.

We’ve been in Malaysia for over 3 months now and love it here! Hope to make it back to Penang soon. Another suggestion - have her follow @themalaysianproject on Instagram. In normal times, they make their own version of Ramly burger at the Queens Night Market and other pop-ups. But recently, they’ve been making different weekly specials to order for delivery, like nasi lemak and ayam masak merah.

Beans roasted in margarine wow
Yes it had to be a contrast with the black coffee for sure, especially with the vanilly taste on the ice coffee
So unique! Really liked both for their different flavors
@@FoodandFootprints and I think that's the perfect way of tasting the, together. To appreciate each flavor
Great tips! My Malaysian twin who's currently living in NY has never heard of some of these spots before. Thanks for the tips! Us Malaysians abroad are always looking for our local fixes. Our roots are from Penang. :)
Thank you! Hope she enjoys these spots. There’s more Malaysian restaurants in NYC that we either like and just couldn’t fit into the video or that we haven’t tried yet.
@@FoodandFootprints Oooo thanks for the great tip! Are you there because of the Lockdown? Apparently there's a few UA-camrs covering Malaysia who're in the same predicament like Jetlag Warriors and Ken Abroad(?). Would be cool to see you all colab or something if it's not out of the way. Cheers and keep on vlogging! Like all food posts.
You’re welcome! Yup we got to KL a week before the MCO and have been here ever since. We met up with Jetlag Warriors a few times actually!
Thank you so much!
Those rice noodles look amazing. Nasi lamak is the bomb.. Nice combo of flavors.
They are! Char kway teow is an amazing dish, especially when cooked like they did here. Love nasi lemak too - great flavors!
Kuih lapis you can also peel it and eat it layer by layer 😉
Ohhh we’ll do that next time. Thanks for the tip!
Lapis = layers 😁😁
Arshat Arifin Terima kasih!
Sama-sama(u r welcome)😀😀
I liked that reflection shot. Always enjoy watching creators film in creative ways. Always enjoy eating street food. Hard to comment on specific food you guys are eating since I don’t know how to spell 🤣. My wife loves curry, I’m not much of a curry fan. The with rice and egg and the other items is more my speed. Thanks for this Malaysian Food Tour.
Thank you! Jumi has a great eye and she spotted that reflection shot opportunity. Haha we left the names of the dishes in the description for reference along with the names of each place.
You have to try nasi lemak whenever you go to a Malaysian restaurant - it is so good! Thank you for watching
Food and Footprints When we do go a Malaysian restaurant, I’ll go back to this video. And thanks for putting all the names in the description. Jumi has an eye for some great shots.

@@FoodandFootprints There r few variations of curry noodles. D nyonya curry laksa / noodle is equally delicious. Glad that u made this video.

Ahhh you’re far too kind - thank you!
@@FoodandFootprints just honest
glad both of you like malaysian food
Thank you - it is one of our favorites!
Wonder if they have another one of the Malaysian's popular dish especially in the States of Melaka and Johor that known as Asam Pedas with Stingray fish or mince meat. You can dip anything with Asam Pedas whether with bread, crackers, roti canai and rice. Another is Masak Lemak Cili Api (Turmeric with Coconut Milk) which is another fav in Malaysian Cuisine.
Both look excellent! Not sure if they have them here in NYC, but we would love to visit Melaka and Johor to try them
i love how aromatic pandan is :D its so good - apam balik feel like indonesian martabak - the flat version and the sweet one
Yesss pandan is so good! Always excited to taste it. We’ve had martabak before but need to try more!
The taste and smell. Of a good cup of coffee on a cold. New. York winter day is amazing
It is! And the great thing about NYC is the huge variety of coffee styles from around the world
Made me crave Malaysian food! Great tour.

Unbelievably crunchy! It is perfect - we may go back for a bowl today now that it is snowing

The crispy tofu skin is amazing! We just had to highlight how loud of a crunch you get from it. Ahahahahaha so true
Assam Laksa too what a great Malay food series guys! ^^

I gotta hit these joints up. Glad to read your take on NYC Malaysian food in comparison to the cuisines in Malaysia. Good but not as diverse.
You should! Only thing is Let’s Makan sadly closed.
Especially after being in Malaysia for 9 months, we have a much better perspective on the cuisine and how NYC’s stacks up.
@@FoodandFootprints I recall hearing you say that NYC is very good but not as diverse as the home country. Interesting...
