For the off centered mounting issue you said at the beginning of the video, there’s mounting brackets that replace the entire mirror itself. It screws into the new mirror and mounts into the windshield where the old mirror uses to be. That way it’s centered
This is an interesting idea but not ideal for safe driving. I use my center rearview mirror a lot, so covering it up seems like a bad idea. If it was just a mirror that also had the front and rear cameras then that would be a cool addition but the Apple CarPlay is unnecessary.
Love that website I bought a radio there for my mom's Mazda CX-7 about 7 years ago it's still hanging in there. That mirror might be overkill for just a front and rear camera. But it does have it's on storage so that might justify it idk but still pretty Kool.
@@oscarmohamed1175 The front and rear camera aren't over kill, the Apple Carplay/Android Auto is, it sounds cool in theory but not in actual use. The front and rear camera is actually pretty useful (the rear camera more), it's a dash cam, I have a similar one in both my cars (from Vantop) and I can actually see more area in them than the side mirrors, granted I don't solely rely on just the camera, I do use the side mirrors. The built-in dash cam function (mine didn't have built in memory, I had to purchase a 128GB Micro SD card myself for ~$20) is also useful, I haven't been in any accidents but I have been in a few close calls, when reviewing the video, the quality is decent, and license plates are legible, there is also a built-in "battery" (or super capacitor) which allows for parking mode recording, it records for a few seconds when motion is detected with the car off. Though it's not perfect, there are times where I park my car for the night and when I come back to my car to drive it, the screen had randomly dimmed itself, no issue I think, I just increase the brightness by swiping up on the right side of the screen (left side is up/down camera feed alignment), but there are times where the screen does not want to increase the brightness, there are other times where it does not turn on, but holding the power button makes it boot up (boot up time is ~5 secs).
What’s good about it is its portability. Tucking the wire out of the way, no permanent changes to the car is the best part. No it’s not OEM Infotainment system quality, but I can put it in my 92 Camaro so I have cameras and apple car play with out modifying my 41K mile original car.
Love the honest review. I have something similar but it's just a full screen dashcam front and back. Can't understand why you'd have carplay on it rendering half the screen useless. Even the ADAS was a weird idea. Why would that matter on a rearview? Too much going on taking away your attention for the road. Glad you kept it real on this one.
Recommend using the GPS if you want time and your speed timed stamp on your videos. It helps if you get in an accident and insurance needs the video. I just upgraded my mirror with this setup; without the CarPlay. Good video tho! 👍
I've owned a couple of those that strap over your mirror. It blocks the ventilation and causes the thing to burn out over time. If you can get a mirror bracket to mount it directly to windshield in place of the mirror it will last a lot longer.
How long did yours last before burning out? Just curious. I just got one (not this one) but I was def concerned about longevity since they have to deal with extreme heat or cold depending on where you live.
I wonder if anyone watch this video because of the white Lotus Evora S (Supercharger) and the cute 'Niko' Huskie? Honestly I could not keep my eyes off this sporty and sleek roadster !!! One of my dreams....
Wouldve loved a test on the camera and how detailed (the video) it is on the road. I have one thats a little old and glitching out, and would like a new one. Having a dashcam and reverse cam for safety and insurance is a must on the road these days
Installing this in my current vehicle to the dash, with heavy duty Velcro, which I’ve used a lot in other devices over the years when I don’t yet want a perm Mount. Then once the transmission is done in my dually I can move it over and install it on the dash there. Love the idea of having it as a dash installation on older vehicles, that might not have the dash space for a full on full screen, back up cam, upgrade. But I refuse to ever put anything over my mirror. Thank you for an awesome video.
OMG you listening to eye spy by nightlovel had me excited haha! that jam is hard! good video nontheless! i like that the device auto run the apple carplay when you're in the car.
The design is so flawed. Camera should be mounted under. Not the side . The plug in extension should be flush with the back. It should replace the old mirror entirely. I don’t think i would buy this for $100 . For double that you can get a much better one. Pretty good video. Really did a great job pointing out the good and bad . Hopefully your video help’s them redesign the product.
Thanks for the review. I am exploring options on a used truck I bought. I want android auto and a backup cam. I am looking for something that wont take up more space in the windshield that also wont cost a small fortune. Might look into this.
Take the wires zip tie, tape, something together, then drop them down to the mount on the windshield, then run them up to the mirror. Gps is beneficial for times that you may not connect to android auto/CarPlay. Sometimes instead of pulling out your phone, or if someone is going to insert directions.
I have one and it is not as practical as you might think. First, it is not stable in the Bluetooth connection. Second, I put it in a convertible and the screen is almost invisible with the top down. And lasty, in my case, it is no better than just having an electronic rear view mirror that is also a dash cam front and back. I disconnected the carplay and operate my music and navigate through the phone. I WOULD DEFINITELY put in an electronic camera rear view mirror in anything with obstructed rear views like a van, moving truck, delivery truck, semi, camper, etc. but for a convertible, it just doesn't work.
I hate add ons like this that get power from the 12v plug. If you’re going to commit to integrating something like this, it should be hard wired into the vehicle.
The issue I’ve found with these mirrors is the nighttime view from the rear camera. Very little light at night will completely washout your view. Headlights from far back will blind the crap out of you.
@@Tacojoint On the camera? Because it’s not just the view from the screen but it’s also the recording. Film on the screen won’t really help with the camera sensor getting overwhelmed.
I mean the camera is supposed to go in top center of the rear window. You know where your rear view mirror looks. Not by your license plate way down low.
That is exactly what people need. Another distraction to have accidents. I can see the value but they should disable the car play option when the car is in motion.
You don't even have to have the display on. If you turn the display off, it will still transmit the Bluetooth music from your phone to the stereo in your car and with the display off, it is just like a regular rear view mirror, but with front and rear dash cameras recording all the time the car is on. Another thing it will do is display a GPS moving map to give you directions so you don't have to have a phone mounted on the dashboard.
Honestly, I got an 89 celiac and I’ve been looking for something like this because I’ve been wanting to try and save my head unit but still have CarPlay. Only problem is I feel like it would be too distracting
I like it cause I have really dark tint so I can really used the rear view part and also I don’t want to change my deck I have a 2002 Tahoe but it’s no beater but I would love to used one of these it really works for what I’m trying to do
The question is I wouldn’t want apple car play. Already have it. Now could you drive and have the rear camera on the front camera on at the same time??
Why do you want to see what is in front of you on the screen? Both the front and rear cameras are recording all the time, even if they are not displaying. You can toggle front or rear and back just by swiping,
I installed a similar device. The problem I have is the extra weight on the mirror assembly causes the mirror to droop after driving down the road a bit and not sure how to make my mirror assembly tighter (ball part). Any suggestions from anyone? My car is an 07 (but very low mileage) Solstice GXP.
Even on a car with no factory screen I’d rather replace the stereo head unit or even mount a screen on the dash. I don’t think looking up at the rear view mirror all the time would cut it lol
I saw one in a car recently that came standard. It is definitely far better than a standard mirror. I'd argue much safer. I'm not sure if it had car play or not. It was built into the car. No wires
Not great. But you can also just shut off the display and it becomes a normal rear view mirror and keeps playing the music from your carplay Bluetooth hookup.
Bro if you drove a car with Lane Departure Warning and it got annoying, I’d suggest staying in your lane and using blinkers homie 😂 my LDW only buzzes my seat and chimes when I’m swervin
Cool in theory but when you do a split screen you basically have the same size touch screen as a cellphone. And having a smaller rearview is not safe and probably horrible quality at night. And more awkward and dangerous having to reach up flipping and tapping the screen than to have one lower.
Everyone talking about safety you know it has a dam camera for the rear i don't even have one in my truck why are so many people so worried about safety when its the same thing as looks at the radio
No. It’s obstruction of your rear view. Plus. If you have a Chevy. You got the North Star. You need something. That draws no attention for front and rear. Maybe also for the cabin
It’s better get iPad Air 2 in good condition for that money and you will have a big screen without draining your phone battery and you have another device to use other than phone.
I would not buy it. The rearview mirror screen is just small. Too small. The display is way too small for using the touchscreen, and it's awkward at best to look up at the mirror to use the phone, change the music, search for an address, and follow the mapping directions. And you find out real fast, that having to reach up to the mirror to toggle on the reverse camera display every time you need it, is just not a satisfactory experience. For the same amount of money, and oftentimes less money, you can get a double din head unit with a bigger screen, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, rear view and front camera inputs, etc. Just personal experience. I recently upgraded a few old cars with reverse cameras and double din head units.
it would have been interesting to see something like this become mainstream instead of the standard. instead of car related screen info on the gage cluster and then infotainment in the middle. maybe like how Tesla puts it all in one on the center tablet, maybe the opposite with everything on the gauge cluster. then have the middle be nothing but big physical buttons and open space. The three climate control buttons, volume knob and then a built in phone mount or something.
Ive had this product for 2 months and its so bad DONT BUY IT. Sometime the dashcam doesnt record, the screen will lag and you cant even get the buttons to work. You cant adjust the iso of the camera, so at night YOU LITERALLY CANT SEE ANYTHING because ANY LIGHT looks like a solar flare. This is literally a road hazard because my rearview mirror is useless at nighttime when cars are behid me. Since navigating the menus of the device are so laggy carplay is a nightmare to use, also the screen is so small its useless to look at. Just use your cellphone. FM radio for music is always static in the background so that useless as well. Literally every feature of this device is subpar is a waste of your money
