You are 100% right with this video! You will find things you like in time, but a lot of things from your home town or State are not found in Florida. But it also makes your trips back home a good time getting back to places or foods you grew up with. Again thank you for another great video!

What a great, honest, video! I am from the Midwest as well. I moved to the South West full time and after 2 years I realized all I really hated was Jan - Apr in the Midwest. I moved back. I now spend 4 months out of the year away from the Midwest. The Health Care, long time fix it guys, yard help and old friends is not replaceable. I realized I LOVE Season's! So glad to be home based back in the Midwest!

All that holds true for wherever you move. We moved to coastal southeast NC 17 yrs ago. I still miss certain things from CT. Family and friends for sure. No diners here like the northeast. But I don’t miss the cold. You mix the good with the bad.

Thanks Jerry & Linda for such an honest video. My wife and I moved to Florida but after a year we realized it was not for us, too many differences to list but your video hit on some of them. We will probably end up as snowbirds but will definitely continue to watch your videos. My best to you, Ken & Eileen.

You have no idea how helpful this video was to me! We just moved 10 days ago to another state after 30 years from the house we raised our children in, etc. Your answers were universal! Finding new everything from gardener to hair stylist. All which I loved. Thank-you, it really helped me figure out why I was so overwhelmed! Love your channel.

Great information, all worth considering...and I have. Still planning to make the move. 😊 All of your videos have ensured me that as an informed buyer, I am making the right decision. Yes, I recognize these issues and there will probably others, but in the end, The Villages just has too much to offer. Thanks!

I’ve lived in Florida my entire life and the Villages area is beautiful . But I would never live in a community like that . I am 66 and have no desire for my neighbor to tell me what or who was at my house last night . ...

Thanks Jerry and Linda. Its hard for me to comment being a snowbird between New England and The Villages. Living in The Villages is a transition, but I still love it and I know both of you do also. I could make an even longer video on all the things I don't like about up north. Great video and I look forward to Part 2 as well. I will see you when we get there!

I know I would miss my church, singing with my choir, my friends and Chicago style pizza. Since the pandemic my church has been meeting on line, so things haven't been quite the same since March. No church choir until sometime in 2021. 😥 Sometimes I will watch the You Tube services from Hope Lutheran church on 466, which I have visited several times in person. This was a good video with things to think about when contemplating a 1,200 mile move. Looking forward to part 2.

Very concise and appreciated. I've been watching your content, and asked my husband if he'd consider moving to Florida, and more specifically, The Villages. And he said "no way". And without realizing it, it was for many of the reasons you gave. We're 68 and we have stairs to the basement. And honestly, we feel like our stairs have kept us young and healthy. Of course, we do other forms of exercise, like bicycle, yoga, pilates, etc. But we go up and down those stairs a good 2 dozen times a day, and we have strong lungs as a result. We never get winded, and our knees and legs are in great shape. So, like the old adage goes - you don't stop doing the stairs cuz you get old, you get old cuz you stop doing the stairs. ha ha - food for thought. Now off to watch "what we won't miss if we move to Florida". Still love your videos and your lifestyle.

Other things to get used to living in Florida: Lightning Capitol of the World (no joke!), lots of pop up storms, road flooding (not sure if that's an issue in the Villages, it is elsewhere in FL), not having a basement, the way the intense sun bleaches out lawn furniture and fades the paint on your car if you park outside uncovered, having to trim shrubs and pull weeds year round.

Florida is one of the best places to shoot shotguns. The Villages has a Sporting Clays day on Thursdays at Blackjack Sporting Clays not far from your place. Tampa Bay Sporting Clays, Silver Dollar Trap Club, are both within a half hour of you. There is a rifle/pistol range at Teneroc near Lakeland. Most counties have gun ranges.

I'm getting sad already . We hope to move down in a couple years and I'm afraid I will miss the change of seasons. We live in northwest NJ in the mountains will miss that a lot. But NJ is the pits these days.We stay in when it's hot in the summer too, as well as stay in in the winter when it's cold! Won't miss the yard work, will miss my basement.Starting to get rid of some of our things we have collected seems like an enormous feat but I will be glad to be rid of the clutter and simplify. I really don't need 6 casserole dishes anymore. Am looking forward to the lifestyle and a change. Keep up the good work love your videos and look forward to them.

My Dad is selling the house he built in 1964 and is moving to a senior citizen apartment in a few weeks. My sisters have gotten rid of most of the stuff. I was asked what I wanted from the house...I said nothing. Unless something breaks in my home now it doesn't get replaced. If I am moving south in a few years I will be getting rid of most of my stuff...too expensive to move my furniture. I will start with new items.

@B W My sisters rented a dumpster for 10 days to pitch the junk from my Dad's house that could not be sold or given away. They told me there was 3 tons of stuff in the dumpster. And my Dad isn't a hoarder...just stuff accumulated after living in the same house for 56 years. I will be going to his house in a few days to start packing up what he is taking to his apartment, which isn't that much. The house is about 90% empty of furniture.

Very good synopsis. We live on west coast of Florida. There are tons of deers in our Brooker Creek, Starkey & Philippe parks, just to name a few. Remember, they carry ticks. I lol over missed house. I turned on wrong street & rang bell with my friends Xmas gift, looking confused when different hands reached for it.
I agree on Restaurants, as with every move we make, Mass., Indiana, Brooklyn, Phoenix, Oklahoma then Florida we miss our past eating out. Linda, we have 3 malls nearby but malls are dying out. I do miss my hairdresser in mall. Storage is a huge problem. You go to a smaller home & take up hobbies - Music, art/ photography...I suspect you have an attic, some people put stairs & put tons up there. We purge many times a year & now keep attic empty, as too hard to climb up there. Finding doctors & dentist is trying, but starting over making friends was easy, so many clubs...I agree about topography. I once stood on the beach & watched the space shuttle lift off = flat. In AZ we could always escape to another elevation, but closest ocean = CA. The water out of the taps in AZ was way hotter than here. As for Gizmo, our Boston Terriers passed away in AZ, but we babysat our friends dog & they found a great vet, takes time. Everywhere we lived I feel blessed for the experience. Jeanne

Makes perfect sense. 😁 I have a local, hole-in-the-wall, steak restaurant that is an absolute favorite of mine in Perry County, Arkansas. I love Florida, so many things about it. I can’t say I’ve been very many places in this country that I didn’t just really enjoy. But I am maybe more adjustable than most. I think loving Florida requires that I face my inner conflicts because you have to be patient with Everything: traffic, heat and humidity, tourists, and losing time just getting around even without traffic. It has been very good for being the best person I can be. I’m much more patient and understanding now.

So much of this isn't "Things you might miss if you move to Florida", but rather what you miss when you move anywhere; friends, restaurants, doctor, etc. My husband and I retired and moved a couple hundred miles away nearly three years ago. We miss many of those same things after living in the Los Angeles area our whole lives. Sounds like you two had a more drastic lifestyle change (farm to a neighborhood house, total weather change) than we did, but are having the same "misses" as us. Best of luck to you two.

I enjoyed the video. Thanks. I want to add that I miss the Bent grass on the golf courses. In Florida they predominantly use Bermuda grass. The problem with Bermuda grass is that the ball doesn't sit up as much on the fairway, so it's harder for a golfer to get an iron club under it. They can't grow it very tall because the ball will sink down and be unable to see which leads to lost balls.
I also miss Whole Foods, which are in Orlando, but not in The Villages.

Nice vlog guys. We snowbirded here in Solivita (south of Orlando) for 9 years until moving full time a year ago. One thing that is different from you is we have a LOT of deer here (eating our shrubs). I also have a little Miata convertible here and I miss the mountains and twisty roads of the Adirondacks in New York and Green Mountains in Vermont - those are a blast in a little sports car. No so much here. Although I did invest in a really fast electric golf cart. ;) We are also still looking for a church that fits.

We still have a home in northern Virginia and it’s totally different re “helpers.” They are always very pricey up there, and unless you luck onto an individual, many especially lawn service employees, only speak Spanish and are tough to communicate with. We are in SW Florida and easier to arrange services. Much cheaper too. Plumbing and other services have a minimum hourly price in northern Virginia and are super expensive.

OK...first of all, how can ANYBODY not love GIZMO???!!!??? Hey, I lived in Florida for 9 months...my wife and I were so homesick for the seasons and family that we moved back to New England. (We moved to Florida for my dream job working at Walt Disney World). And as far as the Dentist...the first Dentist I went to in Florida accidentally shot novocaine down my throat...I ended up at the doctors because I could not swallow! So, yes I REALLY missed my Dentist! (That is a true story!) Also, it is was so hot in Florida that we saw fire ants that were really on fire!!!!!!!!!!! (That is NOT true!) But, I have to say there are a LOT of GOOD things about Florida too...we met some excellent people down there! Keep those videos coming and looking forward to part 2!

I moved here in April because if I had stayed in Oregon I would now be living in my car, rents have doubled in the last few years. The house I bought for $257k in Florida would be $700k back out west. So like Florida or not the reality is I had very little choice. I miss shopping being centralized, here I have to drive 20 miles to get my shopping done.

Jerry - I’m with you, the best shopping mall is Amazon.... 10,000 for church at Christmas. I don’t think our local managed 200 for midnight mass last christmas eve!!! Hills and stairs are the thing we were concerned about missing, but then we have lots back home - and then there’s the rest of the world, done Himalayas, Machu pichu, Tian Shan pass ((Kygastan)....

great points - I would also add lack of freedom (no basketball courts, BBQ grills, hot tubs---many many rules):: also, it's hard to get answers to questions from the "developer"....you all always amaze me - such awesome real-world tips..

I think I will miss stairs and hills. Walking and running up both are such great forms of exercise that don't require any equipment (other than the stairs or the hills themselves). But there's so many other great things about the Villages such as the extensive walking paths to make up for it!

Yes, there's a definite HUGE difference in weather and lifestyle between south and north Florida. I grew up in south FL but have lived in north FLA for 30 years or more and would never go back to living in south FLA. It's unrecognizable and crowded now.

I'm creating a personal resource book based on Villages vlogs, NextDoor and Facebook of all things dentists, docs, vets, etc. That way when we get to TV in 2024, we'll be more prepared. Coming from NorCal so LOTS will be very different but that's OK. I'll forward you my current list about dentists... great ones and places to stay away from. Also have a list of vets. Hopefully the one you went to isn't on there! Great job as always you guys!

Lived in CA: Lots of hills, scrub brush and fires 🔥 Don’t miss it.
Live now in NJ: Change of seasons, snow 👎 , saw 24 deer 🦌 this morning- they destroy landscaping. There is a punishing transfer tax on your home at closing, to move out of state... Everyone is leaving regardless.
It appears The Villages is where the grass is greener, the air is cleaner, and there is fun and friendly people at every turn 👍
