    Amazing man! Just what I needed.
    I finished it off with:

    so the red multiply layer is sloppy, means you can't put this font over anything but a black background. just use a red stroke instead of a white one and it works just as well and you can drop in an image of whatever you want behind it.

    • @MadebyMighty
      @MadebyMighty  7 років тому

      Thank you :) You could just add the image you want on a layer behind the text layers. Make sure it's a dark image, if it's too bright the text effect will look weird. Cheers!

    Love this tutorial! So let's say I want to use this in the same way as the series in video. How can I export a .png with a transparent background instead of black?

    • @MadebyMighty
      @MadebyMighty  7 років тому +1

      Thank you :) Unfortunately, the way this was built makes it so that the effect is dependent of the black background because of the blending modes used. If I were to use it in a video I would probably create the text/outline part in Ps then import that to After Effects and find a way to re-create the highlights and shadows there.
      You could try a quick workaround that could potentially work depending on your background by just saving a .jpg of your text with the effects including the black background. Then import the image to After effects or Premiere or wtv and place the image over the background you want to use. Then set the blending mode of the image to Lighten or Screen. It's not the best work practice but it might save you some time.
      I hope this helps, cheers!

    • @isaprochazka8733
      @isaprochazka8733 7 років тому

      hey just a suggestion since its already a black background just use the title sequence you wanna make with the black background. Just make a black image, and overlay it with your strange things text, then you can set as picture in picture then key frame it to expand or shrink. idk if that helped.

    Great tutorial! Thank you very much. I have a question. How can a get the "logo" into a .png file to be printed in any type of background? If i erase the black background it would become all red. I´m trying to design a stranger things style logo to be printed in a t-shirt any i need the image to be a no background, transparent .png. Thank you again!

    • @MadebyMighty
      @MadebyMighty  7 років тому

      Yeah unfortunately this type of lighting effect isn't meant to work without a background because of the way the blend modes work with each other so there really isn't a way to just remove the background on this one. You would have to create the effect in a completely different way for this to work :(

    • @peteryoung5340
      @peteryoung5340 5 років тому

      @@MadebyMighty I was having the same issue. Sort of bypassed it by creating a colour overlay on the first text layer after merging it with new layer... rather than creating the "colour layer" set to multiply... then duplicating and blurring subsequent layers.
      Unfortunately the "highlight" layer doesn't export easily - even using a mask. But, when importing text to new doc, add white highlight layer set to overlay, black mask, and soft white brush at 50% opacity or less to add soft highlights Adds a bit more glow as well.. but hey.
      Trying to create actions so I can use these text effects in composite work. Thanks for your helpful tuts!

    • @MadebyMighty

      Right :) However these types of lighting effects typically don't work too well without the dark background because of the blend modes interacting with each other. You could just remove the background and save it as a PNG but the effect would most likely look weird unfortunately :/
