- On my first day in Belize City we visited the Swamp People in Gun-Gu-Lung, Belize City.

I hope the government of Belize sees this video to see where they can improve the living conditions of these poor citizens. Chris is one brave person to venture into these areas but I admire his genuine friendliness and eagerness to hear their stories.... A good-hearted Canadian... Belize 🇧🇿 has lots of relocated Jamaicans because of big tourism, cruise ship industry is big in Belize we have some Dominicans, Haitians,Canadians,Germans, FRANCIS. FORD COPPOLA( Godfather) has property down here for years.

These people are so relaxed and happy , I’ve seen people with so much to be thankful for yet they are so miserable 😩 this is so uplifting to watch and to think my biggest problem is my grown son won’t take out the garbage when he’s leaving the house
Poorer people always stick together and appreciate small things, in first world countries a lot of people take things for granted and magnify small problems. There's more sense of community.
His room would be a great place for you to put that garbage.

When you said Belize, I was expecting to see beaches and tourists...I should have known better!!! So much to love about this video...house arrest, talking bird, snake rescue, self built homes, people with beautiful smiles....
Yes that is one of the poor neighbour hood but we also have beautiful beaches and rivers but like in all country we have poor and middle class and rich I'm a belizean and I love my country
I love seeing the common people (for lack of a better term) rather than where the rich vacation or live

My first time seeing your channel. So far I saw the first family and all I can say is WOW to the living conditions when they mentioned they encountered snakes and crocodiles on a regular basis especially when it is the rainy season. I wish that I had the money to move them out of that area to a safer and better place, but I don't have money like that. I will definitely like to help out the young girl who wants to go to school to be a Vet. When I can, I will definitely reach out to Albert. Thanks Chris for taking us on this journey, and for the families to allow us to see their lifestyle and hearing their stories.

Can't wait to go back home where simplicity is valued! America is a wonderful place full of unlimited opportunities, but that's it. Our warped value system is based on money and status exclusively. My Belizean people are poor financially but RICH in spirit. Going places like Belize help to PURGE your soul from a life of endless competition so you can actually experience true peace. As soon as I get a remote position I know where I'm heading!

I used to go to Belize in the 80's on Business. They still had open sewage ditches in Belize city. We did a project there to install sewage pipes from Canada. Financed by CIDA, Canadian intl.development agency.
Stayed at the Fort George. Wonderful people in Belize. The humidty was most oppressive, I ever encountered. ( this was the famous Mosquito coast) Lobster tails cost $us 2.00 per lb in market.
Cheap because locals preferred fish. I ate Lobster salad every day.
Was and still is a subsistence economy. The tourism in recent years has been a major help. BTW this is where John McAfee was living, hiding for many years.

Yes they still do in Belize city. Actually my first born son was born at the old hospital in Belize city from my bed I was able to see the crabs going in and out of the canal...😂😂😂 It was wild.

After watching the entire video, I so wish I had the money and means to help the community as a whole
However, I would definitely try to help Phillipa, and her daughters and the young mother with the 2 kids who live with the family of 25. In whatever way that I can.
I just spent the day with them today. A wonderful family and we had a great time with a big BBQ lunch together. Another video from the Swamp coming out tonight. I'm sure they would appreciate anything that you could do to help them. Today I bought them groceries and paid tuition for one child. It's about $100 USD for the year.

What I find astonishing is that they seem very happy despite their extremely poor existence.They are a very resilient people.
I was just thinking the same thing......and I like that they are stick together.......
True-was thinking the same! They’re very satisfied and happy and make do with what they have.
They got no choice but live there and they are happy cos they know it will help them survive while having some fun - free fun, that is. This is reflected in music like reggae, etc. I believe we in the West got lots to learn from these folks.Learn about self-obsession, sharing, humility, community. Cheers and thx for a moving video about life in Belize.
You don't have to be rich to be happy. America pushes that you must have every convenience in the world to be successful which equals happiness. Not true.
Because they don’t need things to be happy……they just love life.

Great content 😂 I really enjoyed the one hour video. Is nice to see real people from Belize. Most people on that community are immigrants from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras etc. I didn't know that now belizeans are living there now.
We always drove by never stopped. In Belmopan the capital there's a big population of Salvadoran is called Salvapan they are immigrants that the government allowed into the country many years ago when they had the guerrillas killing them in El Salvador.
The Yellow head parrot is illegal to have in captivity is protected just like a macaw. Hopefully they won't take it away 😢 I will be watching your next video. Hopefully you visit other Districts. I am from Corozal.

I just came back from Belize and Guatemala what really surprised me is that the Chinese own about everything in Belize concerning to filling stations and stores. There is some small restaurants that the Belize people own. But the majority is Chinese.
Say dat again my government is sell everything to dem Chinese n Indian

It’s almost everywhere in LatAm. Even in Haiti you will fine the Asians. While the people move away, the Chineses sneaks in. I guess it’s not a problem because they provide work to the locals. But but the pay is very low.
Yes they dont mix with the locals. No kids ...
No nothing gotta get them out.... And start taking over our own country. Every store the own os dirty inside and out
Its the same thing in Africa. It’s a different way to colonize. China is overpopulated so they look to go all around the world and set up shop. Once they get political voting power and hold land, it’s over. I blame the leaders of these poorer countries.

Nice video. Amazing people. Warm and kind residents inspite of their circumstances. Lucas's case of being chained, though understandable, is peculiar. Watching this video makes you want to reach out through the computer and offer a helping hand. Wonderful story Chris. I especially love the humanity. One Love..
Let me share some good news. After I filmed this video and it went viral in Belize a drug recovery centre reached out to me and offered Lucas a full free stay at one of their residents. Including bed and food for 6-12 months, and if he completes his time they would offer him a full-time job. The last time I spoke to Belize a month ago he was still in recovery and doing very well.

I'm so ashamed of myself I have so much living in the USA and I have the nerv to complain all of the time and these Beautiful people have such a rough situation daily yet they stay positive and smile and have so much hope!
