- What all started off as a April Fools Joke from Ishida Sui/ Sotonami on Twitter turns out to be true. Ishida-sensei has been working on a Hisoka Spin Off Chapter for Hunter x Hunter for an entire year. It takes great dedication for Ishida to accomplish this feat after working on a weekly series like Tokyo Ghoul:re, Draft for Tokyo Ghoul Season 2 Root A, Calendar, & illustrations on twitter. On top of that we get this quality interview diving into the minds of Yoshihiro Togashi and Ishida Sui. These two men are my favorite Mangaka besides Kentaro the Mangaka of Berserk. To think these two would be in the same room together discussing TG & HxH.

Ishida made like 20 hisoka's in his manga lmaoo. I guess it just shows how much he was inspired by Togashi

It just makes me realize how down to Earth these people are, despite being geniuses who write amazing stories...! Not to mention how *cheerful* they can be despite spending so many grueling hours writing a story, week by week.

Wouldn't it be fucked up if Togashi connected that ''side-story'' and made it a vision instead? What if that vision plays what Hisoka is thinking about in his monets of death and is floating/lying down in the nothingness in the first pages of Ishida's story. I can fucking see it now, Togashi massively trolling Ishida:

Man you gotta love it when writers come together like this. I kinda dream of a time when these writers come together and make a awesome story. I see so many like indie comic book industries make their own universes full of characters that interact with each other have their own stories etc. I really dream of that happening in manga cuz just imagine how awesome that could be if great mangakas like ishida and togashi came together to make an entire universe of great characters that would be so awesome.

+zfreak1234 odas imagination is tiers above both mangakas. But togashi has the innate writers gift of just being able to write before thinking about your story. And ishi is close to togashi, leagues above at making action scences compared to togashi.

I always thought it was pretty obvious Togashi makes things up from the top of his head in HxH lol. Thats why the story is so unpredictable.
AMAZING!! I wish I can meet Togashi just to tell him how much I love HxH! Chibi You must watch the 1999 version!! There are things that are a bit different it would be nice to see them to have a better understanding of Togashi mind set.
That's cool to know that Ishida is a fan of HxH. I guess Ishida's favorite parts was the tragic moments. Man I can't wait!

When he said he usually doesnt draw that much, he was speaking about for storyboards. Usually storyboards dont have as much detail as he put into the one-shot.

Not just Monster, 20th Century Boys was a masterpiece as well, even Pluto(which is underrated) was also amazing, Urasawa is one of the best if not the best.

i've read enough mangas' to realize that Hunter X Hunter is a unique one, although it might just be a matter of preference i know many people agree with me and now i know what makes it so.

+John Senju HxH only uses exposition(Big blocks of text telling you everything), this isn't a good storytelling device. Some of his characters barely have emotion they just do what they're supposed to do when they're supposed to do it. Read Vinland Saga

Like you said - it's so funny how Ishida-sensei over analyzed the card symbols in Hisoka's speech bubbles and Togashi-sensei is just like "nah, pure coincidence". That is probably what Ishida-sensei would say if the fandom were to tell him some things we found hahaha
I think I really understand Ishida with not having fun drawing at some point. If I were to draw a to-be-released spin-off of Tokyo Ghoul, I would be freaked out too. Like at first I would be so happy because WOW I GET TO WORK ON THIS AMAZING STUFF but then coming up with ideas I would be get more and more stressed because I wouldn't want to disappoint Ishida. It's just how things work when you're faced with your idols I guess :D
But think about it. Ishida still hasn't revealed his identity or his face. This interview might be just a front to erase any suspicions from fans as to why Ishida is making a Hunter x Hunter spin-off. I mean there's no proof that this interview really took place. They might be the same person. ;)

Togashi are a genius mangaka because your history and characters are perfectly united!!! He have two diferent shounen universes that make much sucess! And your student make Tokyo Ghoul is simple!
HunterxHunter, Deadman Wonderland, and Tokyo Ghoul series are my top 3 favorite manga. Keep hearing about Berserk and Nanatsu no Taizai. Gonna check them out

Togashi's mindset of letting the characters and story flow on their own is really similar to Araki's (JoJo BA) way of writing.

Not only was Ishida doing all that but also Tokyo Ghoul Root A's ending illustrations that changed every episode, he was so stressed from it he would cry. Most manga have a color spread once a full moon because they're really time consuming but he had to do multiple.

Also holy fuck do I relate to Togashi's thoughts on not being able to control your characters. That's basically my writing methodology lol.
So Togashi is like Nizuma Eiji from Bakuman, and Ishida is Ashirogi Mutou.
I think one interesting thing we can tell from this interview is that we now know that Ishida is either in his late 20's or early 30's.

So Hisoka doesn't die basically is what i have gathered from this transcript. If he died there wouldn't be talk of revisiting Hisoka's past. I didn't really think he was going to die anyway he's just too awesome.

Oh my god! Now we know why the scene suddenly changed to Hisoka vs Chrollo. Ishida inspired Togashi to draw this and he propably was moved by Ishida's enthusiasm for his series. It makes a lot of sense this way.
Btw, did you notice that Hisoka vs Chrollo has similarities to Netero vs Meruem and Gon vs Pitou?
I think Hisoka lost the same limbs that Netero lost against Meruem. And Hisoka's ''Oh well, if I am going to die anyway.'' Sound a lot like Gon ''Not giving a fuck'' against Pitou.
Bit of a prediction:
Could Hisoka be thinking about using a contract with himself to get stronger and abandon his Nen after the bout? If Hisoka does and wins then it could transition into an Arc where Hisoka and Gon are both powerless and try to regain their nen.

Also I'm guessing that the chapter out now is only the 'completed storyboard' referred to in this interview.
Since its being published in a magazine, I expect the art would have to be better, so I think we can expect another version of the chapter.
