@@Propane_Acccessories upscaling will most likely cause the age to become a bit more apparent... Also on another note, just watched all three movies last week, the cgi is starting to show its age. Specially in the first two movies.
@@Propane_Acccessories its still a good show. im just saying the cgi is at parts, showing its age. and the matte paintings they used as backgrounds might not be as good looking in 4k as they were in the past
@@sudanemamimikiki1527 Absolutely. But just compare these films with the Hobbit trilogy... I always wonder where the obsession with CGI cones from... No matter how good you think it looks, give it a few years and it just looks fake! Take a real horse, put it on film, it will look like a real horse, even a century later.
Everything about this trilogy is so freaking magical. I hate to be the guy who poo-poos modern this and CGI that (obviously there was a lot of CGI, even beyond Gollum and other obvious stuff), but the little things like this orc trick, the giant ring double in the snow, the magnetic ring that didn't bounce. Who the hell thinks of that stuff???
Just imagining the weight of the extra armour and costume and then the other actor hanging from your shoulders, is enough to prove these guys were absolute champs
LotR really is one of the peaks of practical effects. Perspective tricks and costuming to do much of the work, with CGI used as an extra asset rather than relying on it for every shot. Incredible miniature models, costuming, sets with forced perspective, they really knew their stuff.
The perfection of this trilogy is that if youre not in the industry you dont notice anything that they did because they did it so well that it just all fits in the world. Of course the Urakai are larger and the hobbits are smaller thats what my brain is expecting so im not looking for signs of how that works when in reality theyre just actors.
Being 6ft 9 is nowhere near the scale required, that is a tiny difference. To be accurate for scale of an Urak-Hai compared to a hobbit. Using Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd's height the Urak-Hai actor would have to be well over 9ft tall i.e. taller than the tallest human ever.
Dude more and more am I realizing how fortunate we are to have had these movies made. The amount of work and attention to detail is very evident and I'm blown away as people peel back the layers of detail that went into this trilogy 💯💥👏🏼
Fans will be forever grateful that detail and craftsmanship worthy of Tolkien’s masterpiece were applied by Jackson. Sadly, it is unlikely that such success will ever be replicated even by Jackson himself, but hope springs eternal as there are other Tolkien stories that deserve to be adapted.
I have beautiful memories with these movies. 2001,2002, and 2003 were the best of my life. Went to see these movies with a girlfriend that I loved so much.❤
Lord of the rings took video angles to another level and did it so good that it feels real! When I was 11yo and first saw the hobbit on the backs of the orchestra I was in shock and couldn't understand how they scaled them soo good!!! Now it makes sense as an adult!🔥 20 years later lol
The feat featurette.... I bought the extended DVDs partially because of the movie long featurette and all the backstage shenanigans. I miss my physical copies of the series... I'd listen to the featurette all day long. Thank you.
That one New Zealand actor was in more roles than anyone in LOTR. He played orcs and you see him clearly as the Elephont rider in Return of the King. He was also in the Spartacus series with Manu Bennett, another New Zealander.
That's smart. I really wish modern cinema would bring back practical effects. CG is good for a lot, no doubt, but good practical effects will forever trump CG
Growing up, about 6 years old, I thought Merry and Pippin had somehow managed to sneak onto bad guys backs for some reason. Did I feel really dumb when I got older.😅
They put in a lot of effort. So much movie companies don't bother with these days. This is why the LOTR trilogy is my favorite all time thing. (are there any second breakfast deleted scenes we weren't shown in the movie?)
While I'm intrigued by all of this, why didn't they just use the small doubles as the actual characters to reduce all the workarounds they needed to do?
And this is why those films still look that good after nearly a quarter of a century!
They are releasing the 4k extended editions for 3 days (1 movie per day) at some theaters in the US in June. Already got my tickets

Talented special effects experts think of this stuff, like Richard Taylor and the crew of WETA!
A good talented director.
Someone who actually reads and loves the books.
I love the term "ring double" like the ring prop having its own double😂
Props to those guys who had to wear those big costumes while also carrying a guy on their back

This. Even when considering the weight on the actors, it’s like “it’s fine, they’re just hobbits… action!”
Even the best Cgi gets old after a decade (ex. Avatar 1)
Best practical effect keeps the magic forever
Stuff like this is one of many reasons why these three movies will never be topped. Absolute dedication to the craft of film making
It’s a miracle they were even made! Hollywood wanted just one 2 hour movie. I like to think someone lost their job after that terrible suggestion.
@@ryuk5673 that "someone" was Harvey Weinstein and he lost way more than just his job lol although not because of that
Those oversized costumes look so funny in real life and absolutely fantastic in the movie. Amazing work!!!! These movies are so well done.
And it takes nothing away from the movies knowing how they filmed parts like this. In a way it makes them even more fun to watch.

He has a cousin called 'The Hill,' I believe...

The amount of work put into these movies 🤯🤯🤯 Respect 💗
I love learning new behind the scenes tidbits about the LotR. This trilogy is the masterpiece of the century.

The effort and detail that went into these movies especially the practical effects is amazing, and the CGI still holds up

Nowadays that would be down with CGI, and with how lazy CGI is getting in movies, it would probably look much worse

I was very disappointed that in LOTR they didn't bother putting ANY makeup on the Māori actors who played the Uruk-Hai...
