Great advice Adam. As someone with 3 years done at Sheffield Uni I can confirm these facts (although I think the Harley has been replaced??). Only things to add would be: - the range of societies is massive (one of the biggest in the UK), - 90p Wonderland at Code on tuesdays are solid as a fresher, when you need a break from tuesday club (can relate to rough wednesday mornings because of ttc), - Soul Jam is a MUST - sooo good, - Bar One (attatched to the SU) is epic (but avoid it on thursday evenings because of cricket society), - Tank Mondays need to be experienced, but prepare yourself.
I think I brushed over the clubs too quick, there's almost too many to mention! Completely agree with Bar One being epic and the societies are top tier. Yeah you're right about The Harley, I'm heading to Sheffield for a night in a couple of weekends so I'll check out what's changed.
I'm going for MSc Robotics at University of Sheffield in this September 2023 intake... And as an international student my 1st priority is getting a full time industrial job to start my career... Will it be harder to secure an industrial job?
@@AdamLuke I guess, just how are the professors? I’m considering pursuing electrical engineering and don’t want to be stuck with professors who just don’t care about their students like most engineering professors.
As a current student, I completely disagree with most of this video. Sheffield hallam area is in the city centre. That’s the best area. In fact, it’s Endcliffe and ranmoor that are in “deep dark sheffield”, quite literally, since it’s 30min away from uni and in the quietest, most dull area. There is no sign of life after 9/10pm especially towards Ranmoor.
Waiting for post graduate results. So I stayed in Sheffield for 4 years did under graduate there too. Your video is so nice, Sheffield is really a good place.
I will be graduating from China university next year, thinking of a good university in U.k to continue my studies by next year September. Now it seems like Sheffield is telling me something 😀😂.
Just a question, when you said to stay away from the deeper depths of Sheffield hallum, did you mean that the crime there is too much and shady people etc. i need too choose a uni between Sheffield, Southampton, queen mary london or warwick
More than clubs, night life, music I wanted to know how is Sheffield University in terms of its research and teaching infrastructure, its teaching methodologies. Why all review videos are like that
The reason most reviews focus on the student experience and qualitative things about universities is because it's easy to Google the research facilities of any university and compare ratings to others however there's less shared on the actual day to day life of being a student and what a city "feels" like., If you have specific questions, I'm happy to help. However if you're just giving feedback then fair enough but you're best just to watch the uni of sheffield UA-cam channel if you want to hear a sales pitch about how great the libraries are.
@@AdamLuke Yea I did researched that way as well and as I stated all review videos are like this only (more about accommodation, night clubs, beaches, beautiful campus tour etc). I chatted with college students on unibuddy. They are college ambassadors and they said it is good university only. Since they are college ambassadors they wont say anything bad about their university. I will be an international student, an International student will be spending so much money in tuition fee and cost of living. If a city has great night life/ beautiful beaches it makes it a good choice for tourism but not for joining a university. I want to know things like teaching methodologies, what difference does it makes to study in Russel group university, employment aspects, research infrastructure. Also it is said that the teaching methodologies in Uk is more towards practical knowledge gaining over theoretical study, I can not find a single video in youtube explaining these stuffs. I have checked with some current International students as well in Linkedin and they stated that they found it very difficult in their initial days of study as the teaching ways are different and masters is basically more of self study and professors are basically for your guidance. Your videos are definitely informative but I think these information are missing. Someone who has already studied there if they can share their insight on it, it will be very helpful. I am looking for genuine review on these aspects. I am not looking for sales pitch! I hope you got what I am looking for
Haha nice! I went to Royal Holloway University of London but this looks like a really cool uni! That traditional building is stunning! Still, I prefer having a close knit campus. Our SU was alright too, but of course being in a small town in Surrey there really wasn't much of a club scene, but Windsor had some nice (albeit pretentious) night life. The accommodation here looks stunning too! Our accommodation was decent; they recently build a new place for ac called George Eliot village. But,wow. I still think Founders was an awesome place to stay. If you are thinking about going to uni, consider RHUL as well as Sheffield! The proms are fantastic, founders building lit up purple at night was a sight to behold. Just because we are a lesser known uni doesn't mean we aren't awesome too! Let these 2 schools be your top picks haha 😊
Forgot to add, the actual school is fantastic too. The lecturers know what they are doing (surprising I know) and as someone who did a PhD there, I can confirm the education is great! It is 2nd in creative writing, if you want to do that, and it is also great for Business, Computer science, geography and biosci, and tbh any humanities or classics. It's especially good at English, history and classics. Studying in a building so historically outstanding is inspiring to say the least.
I live in Sheffield and it’s got a huge international student community with loads of boutique halls for them. As a former immigration officer, the students from China keep Sheffield city centre alive with the impact they have on the economy. (Most sheffielders use Meadowhall for shopping which killed the city centres shops a bit)
@@Nik2555 glad to hear that. I plan on staying in the UK after my studies, so as a former immigration officer could you enlighten me regarding the student work visa situation there?
@@Juju25118 I worked in family and human rights applications, but the student visas are tier 3 I think. Easy straight forward application on line, fill form in properly and you’ll have no issues.
