    This explained so much about who I am. I always test as an ENFJ but felt like I was more INFJ or ENFP and this explains why! I began my career in Human Resources, an Office Manager and then became a teacher and tutor. I wondered why I was an extrovert when I was happy being alone reflecting, imagining, searching for hidden meanings and writing about them. When I’m with friends, they tell me their dreams and I interpret them for them. This explains how divergent my career paths have been and why I like what I’ve done when each path has seemed so different.

    I definitely resonate with the Harmonizer Style of ENFJ. It took a while to figure out I was not actually an introvert. Years later, it's obvious to me how early experiences affected my socialization and learned shyness. I also resonate with the Creative type, somewhat, so we'll see where work and other opportunities take me. This is such helpful information. My sister had a confusing time with type, so the styles may help her land in a more satisfying place than the stereotypes do.

  • @HelenThomasCreativeHealer
    @HelenThomasCreativeHealer Рік тому +8

    This was great! I identify strongly with the Harmonising subtype. I did think I was an INFJ for a long time partly because I often feel more introverted but also there was a lot in the description I related to too. However, I can be very extroverted too. I would say from midlife I've been more 'harmonising' however I was very different when I was younger. I worked in retail and really enjoyed serving people, meeting their needs and lifting their spirits too if possible. I think I would therefore have been more Normalising when younger. I also related to the Creative type as I do like things open ended. I also enjoy dancing, having reflected at times 'I should have been a dancer!' I'm drawn to acting too.
    I practiced as a Massage Therapist and the style I wish I had learned years ago is Lomi Lomi, a Hawaiian spiritual massage that for the therapist has a sort of dance/flow around the client, ocean style, very rhythmic and flowing, whilst connecting to healing energy for the client. A more expressive, creative form of massage that takes the Therapist away from their thinking mind and to their higher, essential self. Yes, I'm definitely a Harmony subtype!
    It took me such a long time to find my type. I have a very busy mind and would land on a type feeling completely certain it was my type, only to think later, hmm but what about X and that would set me off again contemplating. I've realised after years of emotional and cognitive growth work, that my body centre has been very neglected. I now focus on grounding, being in my body more and this really helps calm my mind.
    Thanks for a great episode!

    Thank you for the insights. I am intrigued. I'm attempting to tap into my inner sorting hat and having difficulty discerning into which subtype I should be placed. I have embodied each; some for moments, some for seasons. I'm a Jill of many trades, hobbies and interests. I have a compulsion to move with the evolution of my values. My point of attraction is ever changing. I'm "good" at a decent number of things but I can become disenchanted quite quickly. Currently in awe of this little transmission! I've never felt so seen and understood.

I ended up in a number of management jobs, in part because that's what white males are supposed to do, but I never felt comfortable in them. And to add. It felt SO good to be validated in my respect for facts and knowledge. I often groan at the stereotype that we "can't be scientists" and aren't logical. My favorite subjects in school were always science and such. I am an RN, and that requires a mastery of facts, memorizing body parts and processes, problem solving skills, deductive and deferential reasoning, etc. I know my PREFERENCE is in the relational careers (nursing, psychotherapy, etc) but I KNOW I'm capable of the more......research heavy, independent work environment, INTP -ish careers.

    My engineering background and technical job puts me into a more normalising role. I have used the 1st flavour in a community organising context and now drifting more into the 4th flavour with philosophy and deeper studies.

    ENFJ here! My career is currently Aerospace Engineering (Mechanical Engineer). However, many of my engineering colleges did not think I was one but a Business Major. Even though it is not a typical role for ENFJ I love how much information and process methods I can use to connect and teach others. I also teach young kids engineering at STEAM camps, currently 28 and greatly enjoy the work/life path. Really did it as my parents pushed school a lot and we tend to be people pleasers, starting from family. I wanted to study Psychology and Politics which aligns to my personality perfectly apparently, but figured I study Sigmund Freud on my own time.... LOVE & PEACE Family!

I really found it helpful as I prepare for a job interview that will be a step down the corporate ladder, but would allow me to shift to a more creative, harmonizing, supportive role, after several years of the exhausting pace of a dominant leading role.

    I feel so seen hearing about the creative which feels like my true self. I’ve found it so hard expressing my creative ENFJ because other people tend to value the ENFJ subtypes, which are more about supporting or managing others’ creativity, so I’ve struggled to express my own. For instance, I’ve often ended up teaching instead of creating because I excel at that too and it gets taken advantage of but it can deplete me if I’m not creating for myself first. I wonder if other ENFJs can relate. Thanks for this content, it was so inspiring and helpful 🙏🏼

      I can relate! It's tough being a creative type. I have learned to find ways of being creative in the more "normal" jobs, but unfortunately it doesn't typically scratch the itch unless they give you an incredible amount of autonomy, which most work places really don't. I wouldn't trade being a creative type though. Just would be nice to make a living at it. 😊

    Hello! I'am from Brazil, I'm 25 and I was searching on UA-cam videos about ENFJ careers, because I really feel frustraded with my career path, so I thought that this kind of video could guide me to find a way considering my personalit. I think that I'm a Creative subtype. Actually, I recently graduated in a degree in biological sciences, but so far I have not worked in the area. Also I always had the feeling of being a kind of work that limits my creativity, because it is necessary to follow certain standards and norms. At the same time I have an interest in entrepreneurship.

    I'm an ENFJ and about to go back to university. I taught for 12 years then started working in health and social care, mostly in lower management. I've always wanted to work towards making the world a better place. I would say as I've got older I'm definitely more of a dominant type. I do enjoy managing people and taking the lead. My main hobby is dancing and I like yarn crafts as well so I like to have the creative outlet in my life. I'm also attracted to learning and academia. I think that makes my type pretty changeable at times.

    Hi, ENFJ harmonizing subtype here. :) I had no idea before watching your podcast and the subtype theory explains so much! I was indeed wondering whether I might not be an INFJ. My boyfriend also told me one "You don't always seem like an extrovert to me." :D I knew, but I never had a reasonable explanation for that.
    Anyway, I would be more interested in the hormone thing. I know how to support let's say dopamine release, but "my" hormone is estrogen, so how do I work with that?

    ENFJ here for sure, but would never want to “manage” people, that’s a hard no.
    Would have loved to be ENFP in life, but nowhere near that artistic or open. Ahh, a bummer. Wanted to be an actor, but found I was too uptight. Entrepreneurship though, now my advising days are over (retired from a totally fulfilling job) maybe…
    Y’all got the ENFJ spot on I’d say. One to one was my best thing, and I miss my work a lot. Not the admin part of the job though, yikes, way too stressful/boring. Learning about people was the best, always completely fascinating. Every day was a wonderful adventure. Went home energized most days, and that’s the goal for a career, right? Count myself very lucky.
    Main thing about the personality types is for the person being assessed to truly get the context of the assessment. It’s cool that it all seems to work & make sense. But the whys & wherefores are the most important bits. Used to tell my students it’s a bit like tarot cards - i.e., if it helps your brain make sense of things to find answers for you, that’s awesome and very useful. But it’s not magic.

    Great episode! I don't know a lot of ENFJ Harmonizing type, but for one friend, it has taken me years (literally) to get confident about her true type! I would say she has a bit of normalizing under the harmonizing. When I first met her, I thought INFP or introvered-ish ENFP b/c she is talkative for sure! Then I went to ISFJ b/c she reminds me a bit of Pam on the The Office, who is often typed as that. Then I thought maybe ESFJ, but quickly moved to INFJ. But still -- talkative and out there compared to my true INFJ friend. Finally realized -- she is an ENFJ Harmonizing type, very fluid in her perceiving and judging function (VERY easy with others), BUT oddly very directed and has this underlying goal to her own life. She does not have a career, but you see it with her family. You can tell there is an underlying plan, very consistent in her children's direction, always stuck out the course when others, say, moved schools or activities with the group. Realized she isn't NP b/c while she is very movable in conversation, she isn't in action. I cannot believe how much Joel and Antonia hit this one -- definitely matches my experience of this difficult to type friend!

    @fickjosh Рік тому

    Could you say the sub-types or flavors are almost like different modes?
    I could identify different periods of my life as each was explained and felt almost like it just depended on the circumstances I was in - some I remember as being relatively short periods of time or going back and forth between different flavors. For example, different types of work (like manual labor vs clerical service) or different times of the year when going to college (summer break vs class in session).
    By the end of the video, reiterating the nurture/socio aspects - even though there's a neurochemical and neurostructural dynamic in play - this really seems like the case for me? And not as if it is something that I could switch overnight or moment to moment, but I've always felt like I needed a week or two to "mentally prepare" for life changes, and maybe that's me kind of leaning into different modes subconsciously?
    In the same thread of thought, I often convince myself I can "get my emotions out of the way early" by considering how things might turn out and the stance I would like to have adopted if/when that moment arrives (doesn't seem healthy, I know, but I've just noticed I do it)... A lot of the things I'll consider sound a lot like the various descriptions of the sub-types or flavors, or rather, leaning into them - like, "I'll have to make sure I'm doing Y because Z is going to be tedious" (entering normative) or "if this relationship goes south, sad-face, I need to focus on where I'm at and not slip into an over-focus on others" (lean harmony) if that makes sense?
    Finally, the neurochemical responses seem like they would play into accessing serotonin release through mindfulness and the notion could be key in accessing serotonin more effectively in various circumstances, especially if you had less control over those circumstances (like maybe weak job choice in your area - if it all forces a normative mode so to speak, you could respond by ensuring you have your abstract/intuitive "breaks from the norm")
    Don't mean to ramble, but am I getting it?? lol

    I’ve had so many people tell me I should become a politician but find the suggestion quite insulting 🫥🤣 so I settled on law as a compromise hahaha
