  • I had to work to get this video out. Last week a girl ran a red light and t-boned me in my truck (Totaled it but I'm going to fix it. I have in mind a flat bed. There may be some videos in that!) . I hurt my arm and shoulder a bit. We had a power outage and it messed up the Mazak a little. It seemed every time I had scheduled to work on this video everything was working against me. But here it is the final video on the 14 Lb anvils.

Thanks Peter,I really enjoyed the subprogram explanation and in this series of videos its been great to see processes from fixturing to heat treating and finally shaping on a multiaxis machine. The anvil series has been a real treat to watch, all the best from Brisbane down under.

I purchased an mazak integrex many years ago. Used. It was by far the most complex machining process in our little shop. Some one began calling the “smack-O-matic”. With this experience I can start to appreciate the skill level needed to achieve these part and processes. It has always been my experience, that truly talented people make difficult things look easy. Hats of to you and your equipment.

And that is how you program the "Mazak 2020 Shaper" to broach a square hole within 2 microns of spec... Love how you chamfered the hardy before you cut it...
I don't mind the hardness test marks if it means I can get my hands on one of these...

Ervin Krauss Thanks Ervin! Just got my truck back today. They wanted to total it. But I’m going to fix it. I’m thinking a flat bed conversion. There may be some videos in that. The front cab has no damage just the bed and some rear suspension damage. That doesn’t look to hard to fix. Also straighten two of the wheels or get new ones + maybe tyers if they are to damaged.

That's the oil condensed out of the air. It runs down the heat exchanger fins inside the electrical cabinet. It's the coolants soluble oil residue in the air in the shop. @@EdgePrecision This means those fans are sucking air from the inside ? . At my workplace most machines have filtered intake and exhaust (changed every week or twoo) . (I hear the coolant mist from the high pressure is good against corona :D , so far so good ).

@@kisspeteristvan No if you look at the video. You may notice the vents directly above those fans. They blow the air in vents out there. The oil is just heavy and runs out the bottom. These are heat exchangers the outside air never goes into the electronic cabinet. There are also fans that circulate air inside across the same fins to transfer heat.

    Hey there.
    Just a couple questions.
    1. I heard you say that you didn't know what the material was.
Why would you spend so much time on this project without knowing?
How did you know it would harden at all?
    2. Why water and not oil for the quench?
    Thanks for the entertainment.

I had a general idea. Did a spark test and I could see there was some carbon. It was just a rehearsal lets say for the larger ones. Also I thought it would make some good video content. As to the water. When I did the tests it would not harden enough with the oil.
