- 2005 c6 Corvette Torque Tube Rebuild. Going through the process of rebuilding the torque Tube including a unique way to go about balancing the driveshaft. It had some bad wear on the input shaft that had to be fixed.

I have a c6 corvette. Watching all this makes me want to sell it and buy a bicycle
Bicycle is about the only option because all vehicles have pretty much gotten ridiculous to work on.
CrazedPerformanceRepair that’s a fact
Same here
One thing this video indicates is how much the mechanics go through to make sure your car is fixed and running correctly it's definitely a mechanics appreciation video I listen to a mechanic on the radio and he always says in mechanic is not expensive he's priceless
What kinda rims are on that vette i wanna put them on mine?
What was the part numbers for the bearings?
Thanks. You removed the torque tube withOUT dropping the rear cradle, with engine out. Can this also be done with a C7 Corvette?
So did you have to lower the transmission down to get the torque tube out?
If the cuplers and the bearings were good, what was the issue? Like what was the car doin? My c6 starting knocking real bad off the gas. No knock while revs..it's tt or the engine I assume?...I dunno witch would be worse job now..🤔
I ordered a new torque tube for my 2007 Corvette automatic. The factory torque tube had plastic inserts in the threaded holes in the front of the torque tube on the end that goes to the engine. The new one has a bolt screwd in them. My question is do I leave the bolts in or take them out and put the plastic inserts in like the factory one. Any help will be appreciated.
well that is interesting all I've ever seen are those plastic things. Does the shaft turn at all? if no perhaps its to lock it for shipping? I have never received a new one so not sure I'm kinda curious now. can you email me a picture?
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair this was a brand new one. I'll have to check to see if I have any pictures of it. From what I've heard it's to keep the front bearing in for installation.
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair I have a pic it's not the best but you can see one of the bolts I have the new one next to the old tube.
Will the 05 Z51 T56 TT work in a 01 C5 Z51 Corvette?? I bought a Trans,TT, and Bell housing with 70,000 miles I plan to use. Ls1 tech says the 05 Trans will plug and play with the C5 but I am unsure about the TT . will it work?
I believe so but, go to car-part.com and try to cross reference.
So I'm doing research into this in my C7 automatic, would I need to do the same thing as far as the shifter goes? Also since I'll have to take down the torque tube to replace (from what the dealership is telling me) bushings in propeller shaft, do you think it'd be a good idea to upgrade to a carbon fiber driveshaft that eliminates the couplers? I'm assuming that would help with the bushings issue that I'm currently having.
I do have a video of a solid shaft install on my channel I believe. It's a aluminum one but install is the same as carbon fiber. They work nice and eliminate all the slop and failure points.
How much are you gonna pay to fix it ?
I got the same problem on my c7 And to fix it they trynna charge me 3,200
@@alonsoduran7759 what's the labor rate in your area? That doesn't sound too unreasonable. Does that include any new parts?
@@alonsoduran7759 They're charging me the same. About $1,000 for the part, which if I'm not mistaken is an improved driveshaft (still with the rubber couplers) and the $2,000 for labor. Hoping my extended warranty will cover though.
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair im not really sure , I live in Iowa and what I got told is that they have to buy a new torque tube + labor would be 3200
Shop is telling me we need a new driveshaft ? Can I just put the poly couplers & fix the stock one ????
It depends on what's wrong with the drive shaft you have.
You cant compare the size of a drivshaft thats ment to be upstream a trans to one thats downstream. Trans is basically a hp to torque exchange since it gears down the enginespeed.
CPR, Are you related to Jesse Pinkman ? LOL My 2011 vette has 24000 miles on it. It has the manual 6 speed. It's real smooth, still has the original rear tires. I am 70 years old, have a 2 post lift in my shit shed. Should i replace corvette guts, or just die? Gawd all mighty, how much more complicated can shit get? Thanks for the video, me thinks i will sell the Corvette, and lay up with some Amish folks in a few years. I mean,i still feel good, but dang what a buzzard fuckin'. The last clutch job was a toyota corrola 1978. I t took me 4 hours, on jack stands whollering on my back. Good luck. I'm out.
This comment made me laugh but I have no knowledge of this Jesse guy. With the way things are going the Amish life doesn't seem so bad ha ha.
Come do mine now lol
Seems a little unsure of himself. What about the safety glasses ?
This video is an excellent example of a doofus working unsafely....ever hear of safety glasses?
