As a young Marine back in Dec of 1977 I met the late John Wayne in the driveway of his home in Newport Beach CA. He was not dressed as a cowboy but in a sailor outfit. he loved his boats. I took a friend of mine at the time to his home, my young friend lived next door to John Wayne, As we got out of my Truck, the first words that I heard were. " Who is the young fellow with you?" then my friend introduced me as his friend who was stationed at El Toro Sir Station. while we all talked for about 15 minutes about anything and everything, I absolutely remember nothing that we talked about. :) It was small talk. That is my John Wayne story.

You were truly blessed and lucky. Cool. My lovely and beloved wife met him at a party once. John was helping himself to the orderves across the table and winked at her. It was a special and memorable moment for her. He was a special and good man for sure. Blessings to you sir.

This place will always have a special part of my heart because this was my dad's last trip before he died. I had just moved to Iowa and dad and mom visited. Dad had been diagnosed with cancer a year ago but seemed healthy enough to leave home, doctor gave him the OK, so they did it. We went to Winterset where we toured the bridges, went to the restaurant where the movie was shot, mom had great fun getting to sit in the chair where Clint Eastwood sat. We visited an ice cream place called frostee's and went to the John Wayne Museum. We then did some other things in Des Moines including going to an Iowa Barnstormers arena football game. After that trip, dad died just a few months later. So now this place is kind of the last place where we all got to hang out as a family and it really means a lot to me now.

There is a restaurant in downtown Des Moines called Buzzard Billy's. It's a good restaurant but my mom won't go there anymore because it reminds of her of dad.@@TravelwithaWiseguy

As a native Iowan, your videos make me homesick. The standing trees and timber, the rolling hills, the streams and rivwrs with rock outcroppings, winding and quiet little roads and trails, just too many things that you brought back from my memories. Had a friend at college from way back when that was from there. Made me wonder about where that person we called "Johnny- Reb might be today.

Well I've never seen the movie (or heard of it before today if I'm being honest), however I found your video very interesting. Why would you have a covered bridge? That perplexes me, bridges in my neck of the woods are stone block bridges or newer ones from the industrial revolution are brick and modern ones ugly steel and concrete but no covered ones. Perhaps you may know John, please put me out of my ignorance and do tell. Smashing video with lots of scenic views, thoroughly worth a watch. Thank you very much.
