As an Archivist, he should probably feel discontent at his own lack of knowledge, but it doesn't look like he does. I was thinking if that is because The Beholding doesn't really represent knowledge but rather drive to it. What feeds it is not exactly knowing, but the process of acquiring knowledge. I think so too. And like Gerard already noticed, Jon is quite different from Gertrude. So I don't know for sure if that's the reason, since Gertrude probably wouldn't be content, but I guess that's the best explanation for it.
That's actually such a good take! To add to that, during earlier seasons, Jon always read the statements and tried to make sense of them, but only in a sort of curiosity? Either that, or it's Elias that can see their movements through the tape. Either way, I'm worried for everyone here. Is this statement before or after the events that transpired in #78?? Gonna be an interesting ep.
If you don't mind me replying to your 1 year old comment on here, here's a short explanation: In MAG 77, Lucy Cooper's Statement from 1994 shows that the Not-Them was unbound at that point of time. Then sometime between Spring or Summer 2001, in MAG 78, Adelard Dekker bound the Not-Them to the Web Table. And by the time of the happenings of Amy Patel's statement (MAG 3) that occured in 2006, the Not-Them had been bound for a little while at that point. The letter of this Episode was dated 2012, so this was 11 years later after the events of 2001 I believe. And 5 years later Jon destroyed the table in February 2017.

Oh boy, was this statement a bad one to listen to with headphones in the early am in bed at that sick moment between can't sleep/want to sleep and needing to get up for work in a few hours. Thanks.

I don't know what to expect with it. It seems like we have to worry about another entity, huh? In another note... Jonsuit for a ritual. Why not :D
My theory from this episode and what we know so far: I think Gertrude wanted to blow up the magnus institute, like she probably did with that library in Egypt (if I remember correctly). Other than that, only other thing is that I think that this Dekker, which at first I couldn't remember who he was but then checked previous episodes and he was the guy who tied the Not!Them with the spider table, was at first interested in this case because he thought it had something to do with another fear and that's why he was disappointed when he realized it was the End instead. Now, since the carbon monoxide poisoning was also mentioned in the episode where Dekker is first mentioned and it was about the Not!Them, I believe he at first thought, or more like hoped, it had something to do with the Stranger, just like how Gertrude went around USA in anything that sounded like it had something to do with the Stranger and when it turned out it wasn't about the Stranger after all she was disappointed and left. Finally, I didn't really understood the last part when John talked about his own dreams not letting anyone else in.. did he mean that even his dreams are Eye related, thus even his dreams are guarded by the Eye? Or that he doesn't have any dreams either because he's not dreaming lately or because he's not sleeping? Or maybe his dreams are only about a specific person (cough cough) and they (his dreams) won't let anyone else in them besides that specific person? :3
Ah yes, my worse fear. I thought I'd never seen the episode. The fear of not waking up the next day... It scared me, to imagine we couldn't ‘realized’ when we fell asleep. All we knew is what happened the _next_ time we woke up... It's a painless death but also unexpected and dreadful one because you don't see it coming.
If it makes you feel better it's not typical that healthy not-elderly people just die in their sleep. You have to be pretty ill the day of to die in your sleep, and have been ill a while. You'll get a heads up, especially if you also have a carbon monoxide detector.
I do think some people sleep lightly enough that they're a bit conscious, at least when they first fall asleep. I experience that light awareness of "oh, I'm asleep now," when I sleep surrounded by noise, and I've heard some people describe a similar experience. I don't think it's super common though, and that's probably why people have the whole conversation about the moment you fall asleep without even taking it into account. I think it's cool though!
Oh, I think the eye-scratched or eye-removed things are wards against the Eye. To be hidden from Elias. To hide... freaking explosives... what a badass Gertrude was! Annd... avatars can be brain dead temporarily. Does that mean is Elias gonna be brain-dead...?
The tapes are meant for us... In a way, we *are* the Ceaseless Watcher. We are the Beholder. Is it weird that I feel strangely guilty, yet I listen on.
I go to the transcripts archive (lol) and insert all the names that sound familiar into the search. Works like a charm. Except sometimes a name can be spelled differently, but I think I've only seen that once, with...one of the fire guys? I think?
You know it's weird that the recorder actually lets itself get turned off when they don't want to hear something considering the fact that we've established it can turn itself on at will
late reply but ivy meadows is the care home infested with disease from MAG 36 that was blown up. It was revealed a few eps before this that Melanie's father died in that care home
Not really? Knowing supernatural things exist doesn’t necessarily mean specific beings from mythology do. By that logic they should believe in all of the thousands of gods humans have believed in since our beginnings.

I go to the transcripts archive (lol) and insert all the names that sound familiar into the search. Works like a charm. Except sometimes a name can be spelled differently, but I think I've only seen that once, with...one of the fire guys? I think?
Did the Eye turn on the tape recorder so "we" can listen and find out about the explosives?
first extinction mention pog
Oh shit, where 👀??
The description of the skewer scares me and I can feel it
You know it's weird that the recorder actually lets itself get turned off when they don't want to hear something considering the fact that we've established it can turn itself on at will
i don't think i've heard jon say end recording in a while
HAH and i'm listening to this trying to go to SLEEP HAH a cosmic joke maybe??
Hearing this one on Friday the 13th hits different
....
Soooo can Elias hear them through the tapes? Why were they all freaking out? Did I miss smth QuQ
Yes, remember in 101 thay were talking into the recorder, in hopes that Elisa can hear.
How come so few people notice that Adelard Dekker is connected to the web.
Does that mean Mike Crew was still human enough to die?
You know, this episode is talking a lot about carbon monoxcide poisoning...wasn't that also what they used to kill the worms?
That was carbon dioxide, but close
End result is the same, asphyxiation
Jon fangirling about meeting entities as the one of us he truly is
Yk it's funny, my weird interest in transoribital lobotomies is paying off for the first time.
Justin Goth
I kept thinking of the Goth family from The Sims series.
I FUCKING KNEW IT, THEY ARE GONA BLOW SHIT UP
UGHHHHHHH i hate it that he brought the tape recorder lmaoooo whats even the point johnny boy
So we can listen. . .
Oh this is the first time we read a statement about the thing Gertrude asked mr deckard to investigate for her
What is it with no one believing in the hereafter???
Spoilers:
I’m guessing this one is the end
Edit: HELL YEAH
I'm really confused who is ivy meadows and what happened to her?
late reply but ivy meadows is the care home infested with disease from MAG 36 that was blown up. It was revealed a few eps before this that Melanie's father died in that care home
5:13 Three stooges
I can't understand what they're saying.

Is this episode important or can I skip it? I can't realy hear what they're saying
Try using earbuds, I find it helps. First-time listener, too.
Wait, wasn't "Avatar" Georgie's name for them?
Very Lovecraftian...knowledge can kill you, don't even touch the books!
So wait stoners are immune to the dream effects since they chemically remove their ability to dream??
Fire in the hole :3
"I just thought it would be less... crowded" were you hoping to be alone with jon in there, martin🤨🏳🌈?
Does anyone else hear “Wusty qwil” or is that just me?
If they so aptly believe in the supernatural, then by that logic, they should believe in God.
Not really? Knowing supernatural things exist doesn’t necessarily mean specific beings from mythology do. By that logic they should believe in all of the thousands of gods humans have believed in since our beginnings.
if i believe in one specific kind of alien, does that mean i should believe in every single alien from every fictional story ever written or conceived of?
isnt part of believing in god include not believing in witches/ghosts/ghouls/other supernatural things? because its heretical?
