Although I have been doing embroidery, cross-stitch and quilting for many years, I began hand quilting (larger stitches) about 2 years ago. I am 78 and have managed to finish quilts for my three children. That has led me to do EPP and it's very satisfying. Hopefully I will finish it for my oldest granddaughter as she has taken an interest in my grandmother's flower garden. Thank you for the refresher!
Hi Emma I also have been hand stitching and embroidering for many years. The ladder stitch is one I never was able to master.Your directions and close up are very helpful. I make a lot of stuffed toys for my great grandkids. The ladder stitch will come very handyThank you sweet lady ❤️
This is by far the best close-up video I've ever seen. Just beautiful. I would love it if you could show us one using your decorative stitches. Many thanks.
So glad I found you! I am very interested in beginning a slow stitching project for 2025. Your wonderful help is just what I need. I took some books from the library but seeing the stitching tutorials in real-time with your direction are fantastic. Thank you❤
Your appliqué stitch reminds me of the hemming stitch my mother taught me. I used it when I shortened and then hemmed all my skirts and dresses in 1968-1972. My mother sewed clothes for me, but drew the line at raising my hems, she didn’t mind me doing the work. It was the miniskirt era and I was the perfect age of 17-21.
Hi Emma this was so affirming to me you won’t believe how helpful to me this is to me thankyou for you help I’m looking at the lamp as it’s portable so I’ll look at those today thank for your advice and I hope you’re going to do some more tutorials thankyou luv teresaxx
Thank you so much. I am going to save your video so I can refer to it because I've often heard of the ladder stitch and have never done it so this way I can refer back to your video.
You are a wonderful teacher!! Thank you so much for such an informative video! I have done all of these stitches and very much enjoy hand sewing but it is always wonderful to see how someone else does things!! I learned a lot from this video and will definitely watch it repeatedly!! Thank you!!
Thank you for this video! Would love to know where I can purchase the needles with the red marker for stitches that is on the end of the needle? Thanks so much!
What a lovely resumé of these supremely useful stitches, together with the pleasure of seeing your beautiful fabrics and stitching, Emma. Thank you for another lovely video❤
Hi I'm a new follower I love your channel would you recommend a ladder stitch to close the opening of a pillow? Thank you so much for the video I'm glad I found you!
I finally got the pony needles that are marked. When I tried them I noticed that the markings were catching on the material. It didn't slide as freely as needles without the marking. Have you noticed this????
I'm sure you say on the video where you're doing the QAYG hexagons. But I'm thinking you use the applique stitch when you sew the back down when you bring it around on the front...?
Thank you Emma. Your close ups make the instructions so clear and understandable. I am overseas from you but what a treat for your locals to take in person classes from you. I learned a lot and learning from you via UA-cam is a wonderful option.
Hi Emma , please could you advise me , I at long last got my cricut pressie opened , hehe however when we got it the shop told us for wadding with an adhesive side like the wadding you use , and material I would need a pink board and and the bonded tip blade , she got these for us, I have the maker 3 the blade doesn’t mention the maker 3 on the packet , but as my knowledge is zero , we went along with what the lady had said, when I came to cut both the liberty material and the wadding for my hexies it wouldn’t cut the material, it said the wrong blade and when I tried to cut the wadding which I tried to cut also on the pink board , the wadding did cut but not clean edges I had to cut pieces away that that pulled up I did pop them down with the cricut roller . Both times it said I need the blade with the pizza like top on it . Can you advise was I sold the wrong bits or am I doing something wrong please . I wish to make te hexies that you make , where everything is all in one , thank you in advance for any tips you could give me .
Hi Karen, you need a pink mat and the rotary knife to cut any fabric. I’ve never cut wadding on it, just hexiform, paper and fabric. If it doesn’t cut properly you can adjust the pressure settings. I hope that helps

You’re welcome 😊
Thank you for this video! Would love to know where I can purchase the needles with the red marker for stitches that is on the end of the needle? Thanks so much!
Thank you. They are called Pony Your Certain Stitch
When you are doing the ladder stitch, you don't have to wait until the end. You can pull it tight with each stitch, and it won't pucker as much.
Yes you can!
What a lovely resumé of these supremely useful stitches, together with the pleasure of seeing your beautiful fabrics and stitching, Emma. Thank you for another lovely video❤
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it 😊🌸🧵
Hi I'm a new follower I love your channel would you recommend a ladder stitch to close the opening of a pillow? Thank you so much for the video I'm glad I found you!
Yes, absolutely, it’s great for that and for making toys. Thanks for watching
I finally got the pony needles that are marked. When I tried them I noticed that the markings were catching on the material. It didn't slide as freely as needles without the marking. Have you noticed this????
No I haven’t noticed that at all. That’s strange 🤔
How do you sew your outer material please , is it by hand or machine in the hexie . Enjoyed today thank you .😊
By hand 😊
Thank you I am about to try it for a quilt for our granddaughter .
Great tutorial ! I know you have shared before but where is your thimble from?
Thank you. It’s from Thimbles for You
I'm sure you say on the video where you're doing the QAYG hexagons. But I'm thinking you use the applique stitch when you sew the back down when you bring it around on the front...?
Yes it is 😊🌸
Love your videos Emma !
Please tell me what size hexies are you using ..
Thank you! Im not sure which hexies you are referring to I think in this video I was using 3/4”
@@emmajonesvintagesewingbox i was refering to the embroided hexies Emma🌷
Please tell me where can I get the needle that has the marked for the running stitch. I live in the USA and can't find them anywhere.
@@JeanMcDoniel why not just mark your needles yourself with a permanent marker or maybe a bit of nail polish?
I found them on the Michaels website
@@melanienicholson2834thanks for sharing that information. I was looking as well. Thanks again!
Thank you Emma. Your close ups make the instructions so clear and understandable. I am overseas from you but what a treat for your locals to take in person classes from you. I learned a lot and learning from you via UA-cam is a wonderful option.
I bought mine at Michael’s before Christmas. It’s called a Pony needle.
What is the name of the needled you are using please and thank you
If you mean the one with the mark on it it’s your certain stitching by Pony and it’s a sharps
The use of a hoop or frame, tension will be improved, and puckering reduced or eliminated.

Do you wash your fabric before sewing Emma?
No I never do 🌸
Wondering where you bought your thimble?
It’s from Thimbles for you 😊
Do you think traditionally, when ladies used to sew their clothes by hand that they used the back stitch?
Yes absolutely!
❤
Excellent ❤🎉
