- After China brokered a Saudi Arabia-Iran détente last year, expectations arose that it could parlay its economic clout into a bigger diplomatic role on the Palestine-Israel issue.
Chinese officials have criticised Israel for going beyond self-defence in its war in Gaza, killing more than 36,000 Palestinians and making the enclave uninhabitable. Former Chinese government adviser Huiyao Wang, president of the Center for China and Globalization, says that the United States' role in the conflict has been “incompetent”.
Wang talks to host Steve Clemons about how China’s approach to peace in the Middle East differs from the Western approach.

Virtually all of them are reservists.
The problem I see is, if we do the same, an eye for an eye, everyone becomes blind.
In the Palestinian case, almost all of them are civilians. One or another becoming a militant is negligible because there are almost two million in the region and, at most, fifty thousand militants. In other words, less than 2.5 percent are militants even though I'm exaggerating the numbers.

There are 3 possible solutions for the Israeli/Palestinian crisis;
1) a 2-state solution where Palestinians get their own state and self determination along the lines of the UN 1948 resolution. Which the world including the USA claim to support except for Israel.
2) a one-state solution where Israelis and Palestinians all live in the greater Israel/Palestine with equal rights for all as it was prior to the establishment of the State of Israel within Palestine.
3) a one-state solution based on Jewish supremacy with Palestinians not having the same rights as Israelis and are subjected to racism and apartheid in line with the current Israeli state and that of the the former South African apartheid state.
The solution to this crisis is either #1 or #2 and not what exists or #3 which is similar to the current state. It is weird to see that in 2024 after the samefull apartheid South African regime which was largely supported by the UK, USA and Isreal, the world has sat back and watch Isreal (backed by the USA and Uk) operating one of the most brutal apartheid regime in front of our eyes without immunity.
Ask Palestinians if they accept the 2-state solution

No, Israel was created following the worst refugees crisis in the modern history (50% of the refugees came from Europe after the Holocaust and 50% of the refugees are Jews fleeing from Arab countries). UK couldn't handled the situation and therefore left. Since 1948 Israel is the scapegoat of tyrannical regimes across the middle east that draws attention of the poor and neglected population (although the massive oil reserves) towards "the enemy". Israel is the easy scapegoat to draw hate and attention towards and external enemy representing 'the west'.

Steve Clemons opens the programme with the question: “China is playing a bigger role in the middle east than ever, but can it compete with the United States to be a peacemaker…..?” Compete with?! What an unfortunate choice of words when efforts from any quarter to stop the relentless, tragic, Israeli holocaust against the Palestinian people must be welcome. As to Palestinians’ right to resist occupation, this is not just China’s view, this is international law protocol 1 of the Geneva Convention and I’m shocked that Clemons doesn’t appear to know this! Clemons states that “typically we’re talking about what Washington thinks about the world” when I think he meant to say “I’m’ instead of ‘we’re’. I’d love to see China handling the management of the reparation fund that Israel must eventually be required to pay Palestine. China, with its wonderful Chinese workers, could rebuild Palestine to it’s former glory in a few weeks, once Israel is required to cease its longstanding illegal occupation. BRICS is not a ‘notion’ as Clemons suggest!!! It is a large economic forum that has grown over many years. Clemons seems to have missed the bottom line of his own interview when he states “all China wants is geo-political competition with the United States” What an arrogant statement!! I don’t understand why everyone isn’t talking about this.
After a century of hegemony and dominance for profit and exploitation, it's refreshing to see a super power that is trying to tame these proclivities. I'm not naive enough to think China is doing this all for general prosperity, but the articulation feels rather different and perhaps imbued with more wisdom. Of course Chinese people are known for their intelligence and perspective as a result of having civilization thousands of years before the west. I encourage my kids to learn Chinese.

The US gives Israel 3 billion/year for free, and latest weaponry support (for free, too). Certainly, the US has an influence on Israel.
