I always loved Karen Carpenter's singing. She had the perfect pitch!! She and her brother Richard made a very good pair of musicians and singers. They were an excellent team.
Hard to believe that she didn't have 5 more years to live after this, but hopefully her recordings will live forever. KC may GOD bless your soul. Amen.
Even when she is just playing around with music as soon as she starts sing her voice goes to perfect enunciation and pitch. What total perfection she sang in each and every time
They both had excellent singing voices..i'd rather hear Karen than most any Pop singer these days...she remains in a stunning, top-notch class of her own!!!
Me as well, and i will bargain what i have just to have her voice, but the funny thing is, im a guy. i hope i don't sound weird or crazy. Im addicted to her voice. I cant resist my self not listening to her. ❤❤❤❤
That girl can sing the phonebook....this is so great and thank you Ned Nickerson, for all you do for the memories of the Carpenters, and Karen especially!
March 16, 1978... I was still in my mothers womb at this point... LOL... here I am 34 years later and a HUGE Carpenter's fan... Wow... Karen's voice really is timeless... May she rest in peace but also at the same time my she live forever through her music and may her voice never ever be silenced..
I was just a very small Child, but I will always love Karen Carpenter's voice💐💐, her drumming🥁💐, and I LOVE that she had a🧸🧸 Teddy Bear collection🧸🧸 which I did not know about until I was an Adult !! Karen Carpenter had a good heart too💛💛!!! I wish I could have met her.
She was so thin even in this video I’ve struggled with anorexia /bulimia it started off with EDNOS and then progressively got worse over the years so I can relate to how she felt it’s a shame she left us so soon ♥️💯💯💯😩😩😩
3:09 her live singing voice sounds so flawless, that it puts to shame the studio version of this song... Karen Carpenter had an amazing voice. What a gift from heaven she had!
Iconic voice, iconic beauty and iconic legacy. Karen Carpenter remains one of America's most recognizable talents of the twentieth century. The pop style she helped to create remains one of American pop's most timeless standards to this day. As someone else has suggested, I too believe Karen possessed the purest singing voice of any of the all-time greats.
I thought I had seen every single clip of Karen. This one I did not see and it's so beautiful... It's beautiful because she doesn't usually talk almost always Sing. She sounds like just a truly download wonderful individual.
2:45 I just like to REPEATEDLY LISTEN to her talking voice transition to her singing voice!!😮👏🏻😍 just amazing... truly a lullaby to my ears... I would be forever in awe with her talent, it is just heart breaking to know everything that has happened to her😢
She looks so beautiful here it's hard to imagine that just in a few years she would be gone and her looks would be deteriorate we all miss you very much rest with the angels
A star on earth, A star in heaven . you will sadly be missed for your great talent performing along with your brother Richard those were all wonderful years and I always will cherish them deerly. Rest in piece Karen.
Karen would be 28 years old here. I saw a clip of this on a PBS special on the Carpenters a few years back and was wondering where the clip came from. This video answered my question. The clip on PBS had much better video/audio quality but it wasn't the whole thing. I hope a better video source turns up in the future for you, but BIG THANKS for uploading what you have. Anything with Karen singing and conversing in an informal setting is precious.
No doubt my favorite Carpenters TV appearance. Just the two of them: siblings, business partners, best friends. It’s all right here. Just like before …
OMG I love this!!! Beautiful!! Thank u for sharing! She always did it perfect! and in this clip, in my own opinion is one of the most beautiful live performance of Yesterday once more, because it's so simple, she made it seem easy, only a piano and her beautiful voice, no more. That's why I think so, no loud, no orchesta, only piano and voice. Richard plays excellent either, and I love to heard him singing Donna and more. Every time I see and hear them, I know why Carpenters are my number 1 ever
I've never seen this videoclip of the Carpenters' appearance on this TV show tribute to Rock & Roll music! What a good interviewer Karen would have been if she had chosen a career as a TV interviewer! Great to hear her ask questions of her brother about how he got interested in music.
Would love to see an interview where Karen talks about herself, what music she likes, what singers she admires, etc. Just her. Would be wonderful to hear her opinions and her influences. Wished she was interviewed solo.
Whatever Richard listened to, Karen listened to. Karen didn't really get started into music until after she was 14 or 15. Karen mostly played sports, baseball especially. It was kind of a personal joke with Karen, but after middle school, Karen developed athlete's foot from showering in gym class in Connecticut. After Karen was in Downey, because she had athlete's foot and her feet would itch after gym class, Karen looked into a possible way to get out of gym class. Karen joined the Marching Band in school to get out of gym class and taking showers and getting itchy feet (but that doesn't sound as good publicly as saying she didn't like running, so her public story was a bit different than her private story). And then Karen would say, "I owe all of this to having a foot fungus." Karen's dad had a very large record collection that Karen and Richard would listen to when they were growing up in the basement in Connecticut. As far as Karen's singing, there actually wasn't an influence for that and it was Karen would hear a sound in her head and try and make that sound come out. Many times when singing, Karen would be very faint as she was listening to herself and trying to make her voice sound that certain way she was hearing in her head. It wasn't until Karen was 15 that Karen even thought she could sing. Originally it was the 3 B's - The Beatles, The Beach Boys and Burt Bacharach and around 1975 the 4th B of The Bee Gees. Karen would listen to whatever was on but her favorite music was music that had an emotion to it. Happy songs, sad songs to make you cry, funny songs, and like that. Karen's favorite was Christmas Music. The holiday, the celebration, getting together, winter (her favorite season). Karen would listen to about anything, but her favorite was hearing music that brought out emotion, stuff like - Monday Monday - The Mamas & The Papas (a happy song about Monday), Patti Page - Doggie in the Window, Elvis Presley - Can't Help Falling in Love, Boogie Nights - Heatwave, Hot Stuff - Donna Summer, about anything by Spike Jones or David Seville & the Chipmunks. Karen wasn't too fussy but she really wasn't into anything angry like hard rock or acid rock or such. Slow songs, ballads and dance music mostly. The harmonies with some of the old doo wop stuff. The Platters, The Andrew Sisters, Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller. Karen was pretty flexible listening-wise. But Karen didn't really pattern herself after anybody singing-wise and a lot of that was actually Richard knowing Karen's range and the feel of a song with adding certain instruments and such to help bring out that feeling more. A sad oboe, stuff like that, that helped enhance the mood or feel of the song. And that was probably the biggest part of Karen's singing is that she didn't try to sing a certain style or such, she just made her voice sound like she felt it should sound. Karen always tried to sound like herself when she sang. And seriously too, if a major league baseball team had signed Karen as a pitcher, Karen would have quit music to play pro ball (at about $12,500 a year salary back up until the mid 70s). A team or two was actually interested back in the day as with Karen's celebrity status it would have been a crowd draw. The problem was that most major league players were married and having a woman even around, let alone taking showers in the locker room wouldn't look too good to the player's wives and such. Luckily (for the music world) no one ever signed Karen to play pro baseball, but Karen had talked to some people in the baseball business about it over the years. Karen tried, but it just wasn't going to happen for a girl to play in the majors.
I always thought the same. I know he was/is a talented musician, but I would love to see someone ask her just about her thoughts as an artist. I wish she hadn’t been so stuck in Richard’s musical world and stylings. The solo album showed just how much she was able to sing different styles of music.
@@debjohnson5717 So true. Very heart breaking despite it being so obvious. Why did those close to her not do anything? If they could make her go thru a wedding she didn't want I'm quite sure she would have followed their order to eat
This is an absolute gem watching these two great musicians interacting like this. You can see the complete love of music both of them have. I just love Karen's facial expressions and especially her eye movements. A complete angel. Can you imagine having these two at your dinner party and entertaining the guests after dinner at the piano just like this so casual but so sublime? The world is lucky to have had The Carpenters music is all I can say.
She was a beautiful and lovely baby! There are plenty of pictures of her as a baby/little girl online. Just Google "Karen Carpenter childhood pictures" and they should come up.
Look how thin her arms are. And from the back, she also looks very thin. Amazing how much vocal power she could get out of that tiny body. Love you Karen forever and ever
Jan Abell, Karen actually looks just gorgeous here. It was only in her final two or three years (from the age of 30 to 32 or so) that she looked old and gaunt, in my humble opinion.
Thank You so much for posting this.I have part of this on dvd and it is one of my favorite clips.Karen was so relaxed and just picks up the mic and sings like she is just sitting at home.I cherish this clip!
By 1976 the hits stopped coming, they had a great run. If she had lived, I don't know if their style of music would have produced more hits, but they would have ended up in Vegas or Branson for sure.
Dear Karen, your mother, your brother and Tom Burris killed you. They killed an angel. I hope they burn in the hell for ever !!! - /// Please, rest in peace my sweet Karen, . . . my love !

Since 1970 your voice is the best thing my ears have ever heard.Love You and Miss You Forever!❤
Karen was and still is the greatest female singer of all time. So much talent in that woman it was unreal.
1000% percent. Greatest OF ALL TIME.
WOW WOW WOW. HOW FREAKIN' EFFORTLESS IS THIS VOICE. GOD GIVEN.
No one will ever sing like her again
Karen singing live here, perfection and flawless.
Even her talking voice was melodic.
Yeah! Alot of expression in both! Really miss her.

Richard sang too. He AND Karen were/are the sound of the Carpenters. My heart feels sad every time he is overlooked. God bless Rich
A star on earth, a star in Heaven; You are sadly missed Karen, but your immense talent and kindness as a person are everlasting.
It is amazing as her health slid down her voice was still beautiful.

Richard dominated every interview they did. But let's real: none of us cared about Richard! Lol we all wanna hear from Karen!
MaleOrderBride true, but remember he did all the jobs behind Karen’s voice
There is an interview with just Karen. A radio interview I think with 100 FM. It’s here on UA-cam!

Beautiful !
Again, pitch near flawless. A live impromptu performance. No technical meddling. Sheer angelic genius.

Great video clip of my favorite Duo.Miss you Karen.
1:38 Its true my love, you were just five in 1955, and you must have been a lovely and beautiful baby, I love you Karen Carpenter
She was a beautiful and lovely baby! There are plenty of pictures of her as a baby/little girl online. Just Google "Karen Carpenter childhood pictures" and they should come up.
Karen Carpenter was also a superb 🥁 drummer!!
Sept 2020? Her talking voice is amazing too she was special
Thank you for posting this - I've seen portions of the clip, but never the full thing. Doesn't she just make it seem so easy? :)
That is 1 of my favorite carpenter song.

my goodness. the quality of the video and sound is definitely incomparable to 4k tech that we have nowadays but the voice is still damn perfect.
It's too bad that K&R never made an official video for this song. This little clip will have to suffice.

I think this is her natural hair..usually had it straight or curled. Something definitely going wrong in 1978
There is no mention of this appearance in their fanclub newsletters or the mook about our duo. Could it be work not by appointment back then?
She looks very thin here and her hair dry and stringy. So sad. But still sounds like an angel.
My Karen
Anorexia was taking over big time when this was filmed. She had such a hot body in the early 70s.
0:55 Look at her upper arm. Like a twig
Yes.
😲 Omg yes! 😭
1978,and she's is already too thin. 😣
It was so effortless for her…she seemed weak and tired here…
Sadly, she looks Beverly thin
She looks thin, not the same heart shape face that she had always possesed, now long and drawn.
Karen was so skinny even at this time. Her back and waist so thin.

Well, ya know Richard deserves a bit of credit too.
Look up Chloe Foston singing as Karen Carpenter her voice is so so perfect as Karen.
