    I have never seen thought or been taught to use the ground as a rip-cord for stripping back romex sheathing. That’s awesome - thanks for sharing!

    Hello. Thanks for the video. What kind of cable should I be running from the breaker panel to the smoke detector? I'm installing three smoke detectors. Thanks

    Hopefully not a dumb question. I'm going from old detectors that were wired up to a central alarm system to new hard wired detectors. Would I run 14/2 from the panel to the first detector and then 14/3 from the first detector to the rest of the other detectors?

    • @channelron3593
      @channelron3593  4 роки тому +1

      Sound like they are not interconnected? ore maybe they are at fault? you will have to run a wire between them to connect them if they are not interconnected, they need the red wire to talk to each other.

      @@channelron3593 I've seen some wireless interconnected smoke detectors. They are expensive, but might be easier than running the red wire between floors.

    Great vid... the only thing I saw was that if you ever change your ceiling light into a ceiling fan the smoke detector will be too close to it... just something to think about when locating your smoke detector

    I took the backup battery out of my hard-wired smoke alarm because it started to chirp once every minute or so and wouldn't stop, and I didn't have a fresh battery to replace it with. Yet it's STILL doing it, without a battery even in it!

    • @channelron3593
      @channelron3593  4 роки тому

      It will for a bit, the capacitor that is inside the unit acts a battery to remind you to get a new battery (: this is a good thing, Thanks for watching and replace that battery (:

    • @tomc8617
      @tomc8617 4 роки тому

      @@channelron3593 - I found an old 9 volt battery I had laying around and stuck that one in. Problem solved. Wasn't easy with an 11-foot ceiling and average size ladder.
      So a hard-wired smoke alarm does apparently chirp not just when the backup battery is dead or weak but also when there's no backup battery installed at all.

    • @jonahladd818
      @jonahladd818 4 роки тому

      A lot of the new alarms start chirping permanently after 7-10 yrs and need to be replaced. They have a built in timer to fail after said period.

      @@tomc8617 I may be three years late on this but if you hold down the test button on the alarm, that will drain out any excess charge left in the alarm.

      @@rocketrider1405 basically, and that part of the video, Ron twisted each of the red wires together with a wire nut and twisted each of the white wires together with a wire nut and then twist it each of the black wires together with a wire nut. After each of these wires were twisted together with their respective wire nuts, he placed them back in the box. I watch that part twice and then the second time I watched it I said oh. Thanks again Ron.
