Mistakes Made and Dealing With Over Protective Mother Cows

- We have a few things going on in this video from a small welding project in the shop to dealing with more baby calves. I question my decision to pound in T Posts around our straw bed ground after cows start rubbing and scratching on them enough that the eventually break them off at ground level. We have an ornery mother cow that doesn’t make our life any easier either.
Great to see the little one out there! I am blown away by the amt of snow and depth of frost in the ground at this late date
It’s nice having them all out there with me helping. I’m a little behind on editing still so this was actually filmed a few weeks ago. Things are looking a bit different now.
Enjoying seeing Star Valley in the winter. It's been a few years since we have been there to visit the wife's family on Tincup road. Cute little family. BTW, My wife's one older brother's name is Ellis Luthi.
That’s crazy! I had no idea there had been another Ellis Luthi. Who were your wife’s parents you might have already told me but I can’t remember. Thanks for the comment! Hope you are doing well!
@@LuthiRanchWY Her parents were Frank and Idella Luthi. Their next to oldest son was the one that bought the family farm from her uncle Dale Luthi who lived in the little white house at the end of Tincup . He passed away a year or so ago. Dale was the youngest of the brood.
Thanks again Be safe
You have a nice family.
Thank you!
Sweets appeared! Thanks Bryan. Rachel will get a kick out of that.
You are welcome! Sorry it took me so long to get her name in there
Looks like a great day for family time, have a great week. We are hot and in drought in our area, no irrigation water and Mexico not releasing owed water. my hay fields are not growing hoping to get some rain. Blessings.
Sorry to hear about your drought. It’s always interesting hearing about the struggles of agriculture in different areas. Hope you guys get some rain soon!
Sharing daily chores on the farm.👍
Hope you liked it!
Hard to find such good help like that!
To bad they are too expensive haha
Great video. Tyler mentioned that he watches ur channel. So, new subscriber. I had to put a jacket on while watching. I live in Florida.
We are glad to have you here! It’s usually about this time of year I’m wishing to be in Florida haha. Spring is in the air now though.
Another great video good to see some bare ground and strong sun for a change. Things back east are greening up quickly we'll be getting some cows for the summer in a week or two. My daughter went from one cow milking once a day to two cows milking with another one getting ready to calve, she's got an off farm part time job now too so she's back in the thick of it again LoL. Hard to belive she started with three heifers five or so years ago now she's looking at eleven head home not counting the two Donkeys and she's sold two along the way. They do a great job with them and it shows. Your routine closely parallels hers and both of you have excellent herds. She has lots of Jersey cattle and they come with their own issues one being prone to milk fever. All dairy cattle have the chance of having it some breeds more so than others. Nice to see the family out mingling with the cows and calves that Ellis is a riot. Stay safe
I’ve never been around Jersey cows, when we used to milk we had Holsteins I was pretty young though. I’ve heard jerseys are a lot nicer and calmer. Hopefully your daughter doesn’t wear herself out too much, I know what it’s like trying to care for animals and having a town job on top of it. The snow is starting to go fast now! Hope you and your family are doing great!
Calves a looking real good. We are getting moisture but melting steadily. Dealing more with mud/ slop. 🤯 5 more to calve Alberta Canada. Have a great weekend
Worst time of the year in my opinion. When all the snow starts to melt and everything turns to mud. Glad to hear you guys are getting to the tail end of your calving! Hope it’s been a good calving season for you!
@@LuthiRanchWYit is a crappy time. Season so far has been good.
The baby needs to have her hands more protected. Sweet family. My step daughter was born and raised in Wyoming
Do you know what part of Wyoming?
She was born in Cheyenne and after 12 raised in Washington state
SHE'S SO SQUISHY!! 😍😍😍 THOSE CHEEKS! THAT FACE!!!
(And here I thought I had the baby fever under control... XD)
I am inordinately delighted to hear that the grafted pair are doing well and that the cow is an attentive mama.
Haha she is pretty cute, we are quite fond of her!
All looks well on Luthi Ranch! Cows do love to rub! Good repair/protection till the ground thaws and you can remove the broken pieces. How many calves are you up to now? Grafted calf looks good! The opening clip, beautiful day with the family! Great job Bryan!
We just had 52 and 53 yesterday. I’m a bit behind on editing videos so this was from a few weeks ago. I’ve only got 10 left to calve now. How are things going for you guys? I’ve seen in some of Tyler’s videos it looks like the grass is coming on pretty good now.
@@LuthiRanchWY The grass has really popped! Raining today and cooler. Great picture of the Luthi Clan and Star Valley! I'm sure Tyler can't get his chute operational soon enough! Our water turns on Monday, you take care and keep up the good posts!
Great use for an oil pipe cap! I’m always lookin for projects to use them on hahah
Haha right, I’ve got buckets full of them just waiting to try and find a use for them.
Good video liked to see a little shop work thrown in keep as much good livestock videos as you can that will help with subscribers. If you ever get a chance to collaborate with a big time UA-camr try to make it happen get the money for your effort. I will see you tomorrow
I noticed how you described that one cow......any chance you could educate us on the types of cows you have on hand if you haven't done so already? Thanks. 💪🏼
That would be a good video to do. In general though we run black angus, red angus, and some Hereford crosses. That’s where we get some of our unique face colorings and patterns from.
I didn't see u , until now . Sorry for being late . Lol
Haha no problem I’ve got another video posting here too in about 30 minutes so maybe you can be first on that one
@@LuthiRanchWY
No, just drove 40 minutes to pick up a goose
Haha a goose? What are you going to do with a goose?
@@LuthiRanchWY we have 20+ ducks , 2 babie geese and she wanted another that was a girl . Hopefully guard the ducks eggs from my dog that eats them lol
Haha I’ve heard geese can be pretty protective!
I just looked up scratching posts for cows. Pretty cool. Odd question, but do you put out toys for the calves? ... or you could just leave the 4-wheeler out for 'um. kek
Stevie's a little qt. Why u waitin' so long to get her workin' on the farm? She looks ready.
Haha they love to scratch on anything they can. I left my truck in the hay field one day I can back and the cows had busted my mirror off from rubbing on it. I don’t put out any toys for the calves but I do leave those plastic mineral tub buckets out there and they seem to play with those a bunch.
