Thanks for the video. This is what I was looking for. Also I hear that kid playing in the background. Enjoy these years man, they'll be grown and off to college before you know it.
Super useful video. Exactly what I was looking for as I didn't find any useful instruction with the package.
At first I thought the tester made that sound when you snapped them together at 0:16 but quickly realized as it sounded familiar, lol.
I didn't read the manual, but this came in handy to figure out an issue I was having.
Answerd both questions I had in one video. Thank you
thanks bro i am stydying networking online and this is really a big help
It's very easy yo understand..... And very simple.. Thank uuu💞
thank you for this video!
Hello, so I just bought an ethernet cable tester, and when I tried it on my CAT6 100m cable, all 8 wires lighting up, but it doesn't deliver gigabit connection, and I know that my router can support gigabit connection.
Would this be able to test if a wall cable is good? Like one end is RJ45 and the other is an ethernet jack?
Very helpful thanks
Excellent video
Useful video, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
well explained... thanks man
Really useful thanks man
Guys can anyone suggest me any webpage that sells IT/Network tools like this tester but of a higher quality ?
Nice vid🎉
What if the ground wire turns red after it’s goes 1-8 but runs in sequence?
What does that 'G' under 8 stand for?
Question - the big end lights up with 4&5 so I assume that’s the only connection working. However the remote didn’t light up at all. Does that mean that end is completely dead?
Hi, did you find the answer? I've got 1,2 that light up, the rest don't on the main. The other side doesn't light up at all
Say that you were terminating RJ45s and you aren't sure if you terminated properly. So the left checker shows all 8 lights, but the right checkers skips #7. Does this mean #7 is poorly terminated on the left or the right?
I don't think I've ever seen it do that but it probably would be.
@@LowOrbitFlux It could also be shorted or there's a break in the cable.
If I want to trace ethernet ports at my house, to find which port downstairs connects to a port upstairs, would this work for that?
Yes you could use it for that as long as you're sure the cable is still working. If you have both ends of the cable connected to both parts of the tester you would see all 8 lights in the right order blinking. If it is not the correct cable none of the 8 lights will start blinking on both parts, and you move on to the next until you found it. However do make sure the cable isn't damaged because if so then also none of the lights (or in best case some lights) start blinking.
I tested out a stretch of cable where lights 2 and 3 flash at the same time and every other light flashes normally. The flashes are all in order 1-8. Any clue on what this means? The tester manual doesn’t go over this.
Do all of the wires match?
@@LowOrbitFlux The tester lights all numbers in order but when it gets numbers 2 & 3, they light up together.
Great video!
I just received the same tester and have a question, I think my tester may be bad. The cable I'm testing is a Cat 6 cable. When I run the test the only lights that will light up are positions 1-2-3-4-8. I have two Cat 6 cables of different lengths, 25' and 100' and they both test out the same. I was expecting all 8 positions to light up. Is this a bad tester do you think?
It might be if you know for sure that those cables are good.
@@LowOrbitFlux
It was a bad tester. Amazon replaced the bad one and the new one works great.
A question if you don't mind ..... I'm helping a friend network their log home. The home was wired years ago with Cat-5 ethernet cable but not all of the wired cables have been terminated with a keystone. I've never added a keystone to a cable but it doesn't look that hard. My question, is there any issue with using a Cat-6 ethernet cable connected to Cat-5 outlet?
@@raymooney6770 I haven't tried it but I think it should work. I'm not sure if using that outlet type would effectively downgrade your network though.
@@LowOrbitFlux Thanks! Everything I'm reading says it should work ..... will try it and see what happens.
Good video - thank you, but after clicking on the "View replies" icon, no replies show??
helpful video
Hello is it possible that you can help me with this particular unit?
DC 9V Cable Tester Multimedia Interface Standard HD HDMI RJ45 Wire Line Finder.
The instructions that come with your in broken English and it is very hard to set up when you are already potentially dealing with a broken cable...
Any assistance that you can give would be greatly received... I bought this with the intention of checking HDMI cables... it looks like it's the same unit as the one you're using but with both options rather than just the one... if anyone can help please do
I didn't know HDMI testing was even possible.
what do the G stand for on the tester really like to know ?
When the "G" lights up it has a ground signal, and that only applies to cables which are shielded, and that's not really needed for ethernet cable. So it depends on the cable if the G lights up. As long as the 8 numbers are lighting up on both parts of my tester (and in the same order) I'm happy to use the cable.
@@tjeerdkuipers4969 Thank you. I was confused about that lol not much info about that online. Thanks again
Does it put out a tone so you can find the wires in a bundle
no
@@LowOrbitFlux then it's useless
@@fhonemanmaybe you have a hard time following. The purpose of this tool is to test for a faulty ethernet cable which will help you rule out a L1 issue when troubleshooting a network connection issue. People buy a toner when they need a toner to tone out a line with tone. Didn't think it had to be explained to an actual human being in this manner. Useless is someone asking questions about a toner after watching a clear demonstration of a NETWORK CABLE TESTER.
What is G stand for ?
G = ground => for STP (Shielded Twisted Pair)
Just bought one. Doesn’t work at all…🤦🏽♂️
If it isn't the battery or the cable then you might need to send it back.
thanks, now i know that this tester is piece of crap.
