  • Neither the light gauss nor the Atlas D-DC are known to be good in MWO. So you'd expect a light gauss Atlas to be a joke... or is it?

    I run the uac/5 build with 2 LLAS in exchange for a slower engine and 3 mrm10's and it works like a charm. It solves the low burst problem, and with the lower armor quirks the triple missile equipment helps tank crit damage vs 2 large mrm30's.

    Dude, you made a good use for light gauss. Well done. I have a few mechs that use light gauss and while they can be effective I tend not to use them because light gauss is underwhelming but I think this build looks like it might work. You might also be able to make a stealth armor build work too.

    • @AlekTrev006
      @AlekTrev006 5 років тому +2

      @@gfarrell80 Yeah, TTB"s point goes along the Weight to Damage argument that is mostly used to favor "actual" Gauss Rifles over the "Light" variant. However, there are a few IS mechs that have really good Ballistic Quirks, and are in the 55-to-65 ton range, that can fit twin Light and actually produce some impressive / useful damage numbers, over the course of a battle (especially on a longer-distance map). I had great success over the weekend messing around wtih a Rifleman-3N, as it has Cooldown Quirks that allow shots in like 2 seconds (appx) between salvos -each time striking pinpoint damage of 16, to an enemy component. Even a single hit or two gets a Mech to take cover often, and the range you can engage from is over 1000 meters, on that mech, so they don't even see you in most instances (or can't reasonably return fire). It's surprisingly fun / good :-)

    • @BlackhawkSC
      @BlackhawkSC  5 років тому +2

      Do you guys have the video link? I'd agree with TTB that the regular gauss is in most cases better. Also consider when the video was made because there was a time when alpha size > DPS. Currently if you can sacrifice tonnage and some slots for dual LGs, you'd rather do that. It is very niche but there are situations where it works. I don't think there's a place for single LG right now.

      I took the build out on the ECM Cyclops. It has less structure than the atlas, but considering the Gauss rifles explode anyway with the first hit.. well. ;)
      What can I say? I did pretty well in the first attempt (700 dmg, 3 solos). Maybe it was just a fluke, though. So I have to play it more often. :)
      2 LGauss with 4 tons of ammo, MRM50 (40+10) with 4 tons of ammo, LFE 300 (53 kp/h) and ECM. Not the fastest Cyclops you can get, but still enough to manage.

    In the same spirit - I was hearing people say Victor Dragon Slayer is impossible, last week, what with the event on....
    What about MRM50, 4 tons, 2xHPPC, a JJ, XL340, 13dhs, and all the heat management in the world?
    Do you think you could poke and cool and reposition effectively in that mech?
    If you get rushed you're inside range for the HPPC but you're too hot anyway, just using the MRMs and running away...
    I came up with a build that was slower and had another heat sink. Still spicy; I almost think running away is better than trying to cool the damned thing faster.
    Is this still a crap build for a crap mech?
    Or do you have other ideas for it?

    • @BlackhawkSC

    Hey Bhawk, I understand using smaller launchers to account for missile tubes availability and placement but why run 2xmrm20, 1 mrm10 instead of mrm40xmrm10 giving you 2 extra tons? Even though it's a .5 second longer cooldown on the mrm40, does it give that much of an advantage with the smaller launchers?

    • @BlackhawkSC
      @BlackhawkSC  5 років тому +1

      Mainly the desynced cooldowns on the MRMs would make it harder to time the twists correctly. The MRM40 also has higher spread than the 20s and 10s.

    I've been playing this game on/off for about a year now and I've been building an IS drop deck. Do you recommend playing FP or is it really as bad as people say?

    • @BlackhawkSC
      @BlackhawkSC  5 років тому +1

      FP can pretty epic, but it's best to join an organized unit before heading in. Going into FP without at least some initial guidance will not be pleasant. The reason is that people who have been playing FP for a long time will optimize their decks for specific maps and modes. If you go in without an optimized deck, you're at a severe disadvantage. Units will help you decide which mechs you should buy/bring to each drop.
      If you haven't seen my FP deck building video for beginners, check it out ua-cam.com/video/mBdS_zEWPwg/v-deo.html

    Torso nodes are something I don't hear other MW-tubers talk about.
    How important are they in assault mechs, if you don't mind me asking?

    • @BlackhawkSC
      @BlackhawkSC  5 років тому +4

      Usually they're not a priority because they add small percentages to what are usually poor base values of assault mechs. But if you have nodes left over, like I do on this build, then look for ways to address torso issues like yaw, pitch or twist speed. For example, since all the weapons are torso mounted, pitch can limit what kind of shots you take as you saw with the Wolfhound at the end. Torso speed is always nice to have since it allows you to both aim faster and defend faster.

      @BlackhawkSC  5 років тому +2

      That's something you could try. I think another commenter runs it. The main downside I think of is that you can't achieve 50 points of damage per salvo with SRMs and it forces you to engage at close range where neither regular ECM nor stealth are going to hide a 100 ton mech very well.

      @@BlackhawkSC yeah, that was a great video by the way (the AMS one) - quite fascinating !
      * and Blackhawks is right that MRM's tend to fire at such close ranges (relative to Clan ATM's or most LRM barrages) that the AMS cannot properly shoot them all down, and the targeted mech still takes good damage. Obviously the larger the salvo (MRM-30, 40) the more potential for some of it to 'get through' the AMS screen, but it's still worth it to use them in the close-range Nascar rotational stuff we see so often these days (on many maps, at least).
