If you stop thinking of carbohydrates as food, but think of them as an addictive, poisonous drug, it's easier to have the willpower to quit.

I love watching your videos! 2 days with no processed food especially sugar. I have autoimmune disease Hashimoto since 2011. I’m taking back my life thank you so much for all the research and study you do. I have learned so much from your videos can’t thank you enough. I can tell my body and mind is changing I just need the sugar cravings to go away willing to keep going I know I can do this with all the help that’s on UA-cam encouraging!!! I do believe you are helping a lot of us that are willing to change and give it a try what can you lose!!!😊
One thing that may help, well at least it did for me, is to make sure you're not eating any of the "keto" desserts. They don't let the cravings ever go away. And stay away from the low or zero carb sugars as well. All they do is eventually lead back to the real thing. Good luck!
Debby, I have hashimotos too but don't accept it 😊 I'm going to put myself in remission....my Goto if I'm absolutely craving something is beef jerky, bacon or pork crackle....curbs any craving immediately because the taste is sensational 🤤

I would love to know how you went? I have lupus and a few other auto immune diseases. I don’t eat really bad but I love sugar 😬. I don’t know how I would go with the withdrawals, I’m already very underweight 😞
One HUGE takeaway from this lecture, is at around 15:58 : the POLYOL PATHWAY. Contrasting the 3 percent conversion of complex carbs to fructose, in a metabolically healthy person, versus the THIRTY PERCENT conversion in an insulin-resistant person (or pre-diabetic), explains so much. Once our metabolisms are "broken", a THIRD of previously-harmless carbohydrates, become the WORST KIND OF SUGAR.
The saddest thing about this story is that these so-called safe carbohydrates from fruits and vegetables that we sincerely believed to be healthy all our lives, Have that many toxins and antinutrients(depleting absorption of vitamins and minerals from the food we eat,day after day) That they were the ones that caused insulin resistance in the first place.!

This is an incredible talk that covers the science of low carb eating very well however critical error at 43 minutes in. Omega 6 does appear to play a stronger role in obesity than carbohydrates do. Because obesity itself is a result of inflammation. Insulin resistance occurs in all cells due to the destruction of cell membranes by omega 6 and its related oxidation so the fat cells are the only ones left that will accept the glucose. So most sugar goes to fat storage instead of other useful parts of the body. Glucose is important, you body can create however if you are not sick glucose can be great for electrolyte balance at the level of the kidneys. Resulting in you not needing to consume so much sodium, potassium etc... but yes you should be more scared of not eating enough salt rather eating too much.
Great video of this presentation, and you explained everything about this topic so well. When it comes to the last question from the audience about how to break the sugar addiction I found Intermittent fasting to be the best solution ( for me ) to get rid of sugar in your diet. "Clean and boring" food taste a lot better after breaking a fast.
no refeeding syndrome in my experience- most recently after 8x weekly 72hr fasts (dr Boz keto continuum) for a metabolic pulse to shift weight. OMAD is my baseline, roughly, but not always. Break fast gently, not with huge amounts of food, and best with protein/ fat.
as I eat in generally one hour, I'd have a snack ( like tuna mayo) to break fast, and a dinner & dessert (berries, nuts, double cream) about 20 mins/ half hour after. Doesn't have to be within one hour of course, or OMAD, so even less chance of refeeding syndrome then. (Smaller amounts at once, break fast with protein mainly..)
Interestingly I think Paul has evolved his views on omega 6 since this lecture. In more recent talks he says that it's not the amount of omega 6 which is the problem but the fact that so much of our omega 6 intake comes from oxidised seed oils which are high in omega 6. So those who have a good omega 3 to omega 6 ratio are healthier but that the high omega 6 level is a proxy reading for oxidative damage in the body.
To the person who fears going cold turkey: I shifted my cravings to Kefir. Whenever i thought i need something NOW, in drank 250ml Kefir. it is not sugar free, but it helps you adapt. After 3 weeks of this i didnt need it anymore. Also you can make fatbombs if you are missing chocolate. just mix one part each of sugar free chocolate, sugar free peanutbutter and coconut oil. melt it slowly and put it in the fridge to set ( i used a plastic freeting dish with a lid). after about 1 hour cut it into bite sized pieces ( like a gaming dice) and freeze them. whenever you need something special eat one of those. They really are enough to satisfy your chocolate cravings. After a year on keto i dont need any of the stuff anymore.
I do this with Unsweetened Bakers Chocolate and Cacao butter. I also add a little Swerve and pure stevia to sweeten it. If you can stand it without Swerve and stevia than it is even better for you.
I did something almost identical with homemade dairy free fudge (I started with low sugar and now eat zero sugar). Simmer 100% pure coconut cream until it thickens to the consistency of treacle, mix in melted dark chocolate (build up to 95% cocoa as you need less sugar) and pour into an ice cube mould and put in the fridge to set into creamy and delicious sugar free fudge, already portioned.
I've also tried kefir just for fun, but unfortunately the one i've tried taste like rancid yogurt. I assume it's not rancid, but it sure does taste like it.
I told my dad 20+ years ago that a low carb diet could reverse his diabetes. But why would he listen to his idiot son when his Dr is telling him almost the exact opposite. 😥 I'm hoping for better luck for you.

What is going on with a thin person that is Hypothyroid but is constantly hungry, and has a mid-range CAC score (310, up from 245 previous year)? Can a fat-free vegan diet of healthy, complex carbs (200g-300g+ daily) cause TOFI, Hypothyroidism, and an elevated CAC score?

Can Carnivore fix chronic inflammation of stomach? Or stomach ulcers ? I think I would give it try but whenever I eat hard to digest food (which require higher acid levels) my problems go worse... Like neck pain... dont know if it is arthritis but it get worse then I eat something, mostly something hard... do not really know what it going on.. I was on endoscopy and doctor did not find any ulcers... I am starting to be desperate.... Dont know how to solve this problem... If you take some people and put them on a high fat diet and they were use to higher carb diet, then they gain weight, at first. That could also contribute to the discrepancy. I think weight is the wrong metric. We need to be more keen on body composition and actually evolve the craft of evaluating it. There's only some mention of distribution of fat and of the fat tissue itself, particularly getting fat on different type foods and it's impact, if any. When people eat more animal or flesh and less everything else, they look better. There muscle distribution changes, there fat distribution changes, there movements change, there mood changes. However, with all that said, I think we should learn to get fat periodically, and then comfortably use it when we need it or want to use it. Not even tribe people are lean all the time. The problem is, we're getting fat on bullshit foods. And if we do get fat, we stop moving and stay fat too long. We are meant to get fat and go long, and then thin down. We're just doing it on the wrong foods.

I watched that entire video and I still have no idea what I should be eating. Therea talk of macro nutrients but you never get a list of foods you can take to the grocery and know you're eating the right things. I dont even know why I waste my time with these videos....just never any concrete information in them to truly help....its always you have to come to the clinic or visit my website and donate for that. If I do some how miraculously get a food list its foods normal people dont have access to. Some food you cant pronounce and never heard of. Give me a list I can go to walmart with and get healthy and reverse the food industry trying to kill us
All whole foods: meat, eggs, cream, butter, fish, green veg, no root vegetables, nothing processed, no fruits apart from berries, nothing made of grains. Can eat real cheese.

If you ferment kefir long enough it is sugar free. I make my own kefir and let it set out at least a day after it gets firm.

I am celiac, have IBS, Type 2, and I am dairy free, due to allergies. What are other good sources of fat other then dairy.

What about the phytosterols in olive oil? They stiffen blood cells. That's not a good thing, is it?

Holy moly 3 slices of bread has 75g of net carbs? The bread that i get only has about 35g per 100g (so a little more than 3 slices).

Do I ever eat 5 apples? Yes, every time I get the taste in my mouth I eat 5 apples 5 times in the row.
I watched that entire video and I still have no idea what I should be eating. Therea talk of macro nutrients but you never get a list of foods you can take to the grocery and know you're eating the right things. I dont even know why I waste my time with these videos....just never any concrete information in them to truly help....its always you have to come to the clinic or visit my website and donate for that. If I do some how miraculously get a food list its foods normal people dont have access to. Some food you cant pronounce and never heard of. Give me a list I can go to walmart with and get healthy and reverse the food industry trying to kill us
All whole foods: meat, eggs, cream, butter, fish, green veg, no root vegetables, nothing processed, no fruits apart from berries, nothing made of grains. Can eat real cheese.
go to dr Westman and his 'page 4', you will find a list. stick to it and you will be right
