Everyone of the US social media platforms copied Tiktok; IG, YT, Twitter, FB, Snap, Reddit, ... all of them but no one is complaining because they're 'Western'. Just cos Tiktok is Chinese, alarms must be raised?
I truly worry for people who are practically addicted to Tik Tok. I've seen many people who grow addicted to it, being on it almost all the time I see it. Unfortunately, this is exactly what Tik Tok wants because engagement = money. Edit: Also saw how you talked about "Tik Tok Tics", glad to see it is being spoken about. I had actually made an essay about this for my language arts class.
Glad high-profile UA-camrs are talking more about this sort of thing. Probably something you could have added is that TikTok was recently caught spying on a few US-based journalists, one of them who reported on a story that US data was repeatedly accessed by China earlier. So yeah, the fears are well justified.
@@noticiasinmundicias To be fair, there have been attempts to rein companies like Facebook in. But regulatory bodies have been incompetent around the whole thing (surprise!), Unless China is involved as it turns out.

I think one important aspect of the TikTok algorithm is that basically the whole app is algorithmic! It's not like other social media apps where you can sort by likes, by views, or basically at all. You don't control what you see, it's just served to you when you swipe, and if you're looking for something specific it's almost impossible to find, so you just see what the algorithm wants you to see, all the time. It's not like reddit or youtube where you can look for something and judge it before you click.
It's not just Tiktok, there's many more cringe worthy apps doing rounds, although not sure about the privacy & security features of those but sure they are ruining the current generation I think they should also be called out. Great informative video as always Arun ❤
TikTok is worse when they MOSTLY share your user date to third party apps. What if those apps get breaches. We wont know because we don't even know the third party apps.
@@GuardianTigeryou're acting as if all other big apps don't do the same. No big time social media company is gonna value you that much when they can make a quick buck off of your information including youtube

Tiktok is more of a hazard than if it were Spyware. Banning tiktok should become less of a priority for online safety, and more of a priority for physical safety.
Let's not forget TikTok based on "immediate gratification" which impacts students, and even the overall patience and the whole "Work in Progress" concept for youngsters.
The back cracking challenge is not really a challenge. It's even used during PE lessons here in Poland. It's a stretching exercise, but they've done it wrong in the vid - 2nd person has to be similar height and you interlock arms higher, so when the 2nd person leans - 1st one is getting stretched. 10 seconds and you swap.
Very True on the algorithm Arun. Recently there was deadly plane crash in Nepal killing more than 70 people including a guitarist, a doctor and his family, a singer , traveller and more. But the Tik tok here in nepal has highly been suggesting content from the account of the deceased , which is very disturbing. i understand it may have been triggered by people searching for it but its just plain disturbing
Glad to see creators like you are making people aware of the dangers by these platforms. I've disabled access to my camera & microphone on Tik Tok. I only use it to view content I'm interested in
Yes, I live in China and if you want to use TikTok you have to use VPN, you can use the Chinese version with normal Wi-Fi, for also some reason they made a new app for other countries. The China government also said that they don’t want to show the international content in China.
I stopped installing TikTok because I realized I was spending more and more time on it than I would like and it was keeping me from more important things in my life. The risk of addiction is too great, I know that if I install it again, I will spend several hours a day scrolling and I just don't feel like it anymore.
Or we need to stop these challenges happening in the first place plus 13 year olds know what's dangerous and it doesn't help our reputation when a small percentage of us do a stupid thing and adults liable us ALL as stupid
@zanelikescheese8126 Well, people are people, and it would be best for them to stop totally. But all of this is driven by popularity and the algorithm. Whether it's dangerous stunts or dirty sexual content or depressing content. This content ruins the app, which is sad because tiktok has a lot of good and useful content. Maybe it's changing, and that's great. But these short addicting videos that waste time are always going to have some negative effect. We don't need them. Because some people can't use it properly. Like a classroom 😔.

Hi there Mr Arun, very interesting and informative video! Just a quick question: Could you please list all the sources and references you used to create this video? because I'm now working on a case study regarding tiktok and the reasons why it's so addictive for young people in today's youth and happened to come across your video. It would be very beneficial if you could cite some references for this. I could use it a lot for my academic work🙏
Tbh, I was about to only comment because he said he wanted to beat the interaction rate, but now I feel like I need to say how entertaining he along with every one of his vids are
And this is the reason why I never used TikTok in the first place, the amount of challenges literally getting teenagers hospitalised and the amount of data collection, I just don’t want to be associated with a platform that is getting people hospitalised and get to be known by the literal Chinese government.
Thanks for keeping us alert to the shady business TikTok has going on. It's really foul how they run their app. Also, congrats on 13 million subscribers!!

I think a huge issue with Tik Tok is the fact that it is programming people (especially kids) to have short attention spans, as they are so used to the short content.
true, im 14 and my attention span is so bad, if the thing im paying attention to hasn't caught my attention instantly i get bored and zone out. it's worrying and a lot of my friends are like this too.
@@gabbymidd7 it’s great that you’re aware of this issue! i suggest you to stop consume those short videos on social media and try to ‘exercise’ yourself to focus on one thing for a longer time or to finish everything you’ve started. You’re still very young and short attention span should not be your issue, it will be a very bad habit and may distract your productivity and learning process in a long term. good luck!
I thanked the biggest issue is that tik tok is controlled by the CCP which currently commuting genocide but whatever
it’s very sad
Everyone of the US social media platforms copied Tiktok; IG, YT, Twitter, FB, Snap, Reddit, ... all of them but no one is complaining because they're 'Western'. Just cos Tiktok is Chinese, alarms must be raised?
Thank you for all the good information👍

Isn't it funny that they never mention Facebook, who are using the same tactics even before TikTok existed?
@@noticiasinmundicias To be fair, there have been attempts to rein companies like Facebook in. But regulatory bodies have been incompetent around the whole thing (surprise!), Unless China is involved as it turns out.

Perfectly explained, thank you Arun for being real and transparent about this. Great video as always
Just helping the engagement rate
I think one important aspect of the TikTok algorithm is that basically the whole app is algorithmic! It's not like other social media apps where you can sort by likes, by views, or basically at all. You don't control what you see, it's just served to you when you swipe, and if you're looking for something specific it's almost impossible to find, so you just see what the algorithm wants you to see, all the time. It's not like reddit or youtube where you can look for something and judge it before you click.
Does the statistics shown in the first couple of seconds include the Chinese too?
Yea
I think tiktok is banned in China.
Most girls in Nigeria use TikTok as a medium to display nudity
@Don't Read My Profile Picture ok

It's not just Tiktok, there's many more cringe worthy apps doing rounds, although not sure about the privacy & security features of those but sure they are ruining the current generation I think they should also be called out.

It's pretty insane how easily people can be controlled by social media. It really makes me consider getting rid of it, but there are so many positives to it as well that I just can't do it.
What positives are there, besides being connected to other people controlled by it?
Only thing i heard in tiktok is people spamming suicide videos and nobody deleting them, security problems and dangerous challenges. In my opinion, there is no good in there.
@Saul Goodman do you have deleted all social media?
i had that same problem, but at last, i got it deleted. plis delete it for your own good

That's absolutely horrifying! I was never more thankful for being so detached from Social Media, except for UA-cam of course.
Good thing I never made a Tiktok account EVER. I just thought why would I install an app to watch short videos when I can watch full videos on UA-cam? 😅 It's just a waste of storage for me who installs and plays games that consume larger storage capacity

Let's not forget TikTok based on "immediate gratification" which impacts students, and even the overall patience and the whole "Work in Progress" concept for youngsters.
This is actually kind of scary. I personally don't use TikTok, but I know a lot of people who do.
The most scary thing about TikTok is that some people are surprised by all of this.

This is a must watch for everyone. Thank you Arun for your effort, you are the best content creator on this platform. You are indeed “The Boss”.
Glad to see creators like you are making people aware of the dangers by these platforms. I've disabled access to my camera & microphone on Tik Tok. I only use it to view content I'm interested in
does it even accest to your face and microfon on the website and not the aplication
Tiktok and pretty much any other platform including youtube is shady but you refuse to believe it because your hink youtube can do no wrong
Yes, I live in China and if you want to use TikTok you have to use VPN, you can use the Chinese version with normal Wi-Fi, for also some reason they made a new app for other countries. The China government also said that they don’t want to show the international content in China.
Because the international content is full of idiocracy & pathetic content, which the west seems to love, hence the collapse of western countries
This algorithm talk is pretty accurate because every video on my TikTok has at least 100+ views
I stopped installing TikTok because I realized I was spending more and more time on it than I would like and it was keeping me from more important things in my life. The risk of addiction is too great, I know that if I install it again, I will spend several hours a day scrolling and I just don't feel like it anymore.
Very inspiring to see you make videos like this. Insanely great content and well organized delivery. Big fan.
:)
I'm so glad someone with a platform as big as Arun is speaking up about this
Same! Gives me a bit of hope seeing larger influences shed light on this stuff.
2:37 tiktok needs to increase the age rating. Tiktok is too dangerous for young 13 year olds who dont know what is dangerous.
@@ZaneLikesCheeseexactly! it really pisses me off when people are like "theyre only 13 they dont know what theyre doing/saying!" cuz they 100% know what they are doing is wrong. they arent 6 years old

9:52 we can actually say for sure that tiktoks user data goes to the chinese government simply because byte dance is a chinese company and thus legally obliged to share any data collected with the government.
I'm surprised you didn't mention that journalists' locations were tracked by TikTok, ostensibly so the app could work out who from inside the company was handing them data.
True but if you look in app permissions in settings you can turn that off it's solely the fault of those journalists for keeping that on
