    Thank you James! I have been saved by your video! Without you video I was reluctant to take off the panel with the fan attached and saw that you had removed it. I was not certain where the drain was and honestly could not see it until I watched your video. I am retired single mom with no extra income to pay others to solve my problems so I rely on the wisdom of people like you who show me what to do to repair things that have to be dealt with ASAP. I appreciate that you shared this video and join the list of the grateful!

    Wow. You just saved me big time. I couldn't believe the amount of ice that had built up. I thought my model was different and didn't have the drain hole because it was so obscured. I stuck with a heat gun rather than using the boiling water until I could pry the sheet (block) of ice up with a table knife. I then used a long zip tie to clear the blockage. Working wonderfully now :-)

    Thank you James that was a great help
    My husband had found that the hole was blocked with hair and algae. He went to the back of the outside of the fridge and undone 2 screws which allowed the evaporation tray to be partially slid out. This gave access to the bottom of the hole where he could pull the muck out clearing it.

      thanks also James but as Katrina mentioned its a lot easier to fix this problem from the back, you would need to turn off the fridge and let it defrost first. If you have the time it would be good to update this video and let people know to go to the back of the fridge first as getting to the hole from inside the freezer was a lot more time consuming and you risk damaging certain components. Cheers Steve

    Thanks for this video. I just sorted mine. My model had a wire down the hole which you are meant to jiggle to break up ice. I found after defrosting with hair dryer and boiling water as you did, I still needed to remove this “jiggler” and then the water cleared and I’m back in business. Thanks again for posting - real life saver.

      Isn't the wire supposed to be the heating element?

    Thankyou James, just done your fix. Couldn't get the drawer out so went round back, undid a couple of screws and found drain semi blocked. Cleaned it with a pipe cleaner and melted ice gushed out.

    Thank you for the great video. This is the second time this has happened to me. Another option without removing all the side and back panels is to remove the small panel in the freezer section. There are 2 screws. You will be able to see the rubber hose going down. Use a hair dryer to melt the ice. Go to the back of the fridge and undo the tray where the heating elements are. Put a towel on the compressor and put a wire into the hose to unplug it. Water will come out .Thank you for the great video. This is the second time this has happened to me. Thanks for putting this together mate. It saved me from having to get out the repair guy. I managed to get past the drawers without removing them - awkward though but doable. I used a hair dryer to melt the ice enough to remove it then a cable tie to clean out the drain hole. Cheers.

    Thanks James, this was perfect! My fridge is a F&P RF610ADUX3. To further help and simplify it for others... the drain hole on mine was exactly where you showed it to be and mine was covered in a layer of ice. There was no need to pull the fridge out to access the back. I emptied the freezer drawer and took out the trays but didn't take the drawer off and had plenty of access. I took the small cover off the bottom at the back of the freezer held on by 2 screws but didn't need to take off the back panel. I used a measuring cup to pour boiling water against and along the bottom of the back panel which then slid into the tray thereby melting the ice quickly. I poured 2 cups to start with and as more melted I sucked it out with a baster. I poured 2 more sets of 2 boiling cups and left it to melt the water in the pipe and finally sucked the remainder of the water in the tray. Screwed tray back on, returned drawers and food, done in 20 mins.

    Thanks for the tips James! .. got it .. removing the plastic covers was the hardest part. Refrigeration technicians were not prepared to touch Fisher & Paykel so had to do it ourselves. Defrosted the ice which was covering the drainage hole with hot water, running it through then jiggling the little metal jiggler.
    Used a flexible tube to make sure it was all clear, found some funky gunk. Put it all back together. Good use of the wet/dry vac. Saved buying a new fridge hopefully.

    Thank you so much for your upload, i fixed my freezer....
    it was blocked in the drain hole...
    A service technician came out ( under warranty ) and installed a heat coupler ( fancy name for a bit of metal wire) that clips on to the defrost radiator and is inserted IN the drain hole... so when the fridge defrosts the heat is coupled to that wire and will melt any frost building up in the drain hole.
    if your fridge is under warranty DEMAND FOR THIS MOD TO BE DONE UNDER WARRANTY!!!

    • @charliekyriacou6215
      @charliekyriacou6215 2 роки тому

      Thanks lakisbouz. I noticed my fridge also had the same wire running down through the drain hole. Is the wire meant to connect to the coils in the drip tray? Was wondering whether this had possibly rusted so was no longer attached to the coils in the drip tray and thus causing the drain hole to ice up.

    Yes, many thanks here as well,
    Our F&P 2 door with freezer draw under had been peeing itself fir the last few months.
    We would often come home to a wee little puddle at the front right bottom.
    Initially my wife found a lot of ice build up behind the draws and on the floor of the ice compartment, she would often clear thus ice with a egg flip.
    Thus would normally see it work well fir about 3 weeks.
    I’ve worked out that maybe having the ducted aircon on has made the problem worse, and having cats!!!!
    Yes cats, when I pulled the fridge out to have a look at what was going on there was cat hair around the motor and at the very rear of the unit, basically where the wand on the vac can’t reach.
    Anyway, I cut some of the fingers from the bottom of the rubber pipe just above the motor, removed the drain tray totally and gave it a good clean, and removed the freezer draws along with the front draw panel, the panel just lifts up and out from the slides on either side.
    Once I had removed the small cover I could see there was a substantial buildup of ice inside under the condenser unit.
    Using a large syringe and boiling water I pushed the hit water along the full width of the condenser bottom.
    It only took 5 full syringe fulls to clear the ice (the fridge had been off fir about 1 1/2 hours by thus stage.
    Finally the drain hole was cleared and I could pull the remaking ice buildup out with a flat blade screw driver being careful not to puncture any of the silver tape that’s surrounding the drain tray area.
    On a side note, I found what appeared to be a flake of onion skin in the rear drain tray after all this, so maybe that was stuck in the drain pipe and started the problem, plus I have removed the small stainless wire that hangs down into the hole from under the condenser.
    Hopefully this has rectified the situation, and I’ll now keep an eye every six months or so on the rest of the unit, just to make sure the cat hair stays away.
    Cheers

    As others have mentioned, the exit of the drain pipe may have a bunch of little rubber "fingers" that can trap dirt at the end of the pipe (just above the drip tray - which is accessed from the back of the fridge). I'm guessing that these "fingers" are the result of the forming process of the drain pipe itself and should not be there. In our case the pipe had been blocked at the exit by what looked like a semi-solid clump of animal fur, that had built up over 10 years or so.

    Hi everyone. I don't go into my account as I don't usually post videos. I just thought it might be helpful so was bowled over by the number of comments and likes that have accumulated over the last 5 years. Thanks so much for the love.
    Thank you to those who suggested going through the back of the fridge. I went in second time around based on your comments but it is sealed so went back through the front again to fix the problem.
    If you're still reading you might find this story interesting. I got this fridge second hand off Gumtree in 2015. It's previous owner was in the band The Sunny Boys. If you're my vintage you might know who they are.

    I had the same problem. The steps are to remove the white plate inside the freezer section and use a hair dryer to melt the remaining ice. Go to the back of the unit and remove the white tray above the condenser. Take care unclipping the tubes. Assuming all the ice has melted, poke a wire up the drainage tube and look inside for the top to come out of the tube It's surprising how much 'flob' there is on the end of the tube. Reassemble. Switch on and hope for the best 🙂

  • @johnd8689
    @johnd8689 5 років тому +1

    I had the same problem but found the drain hole was blocked. Much easier to access this from the rear of the fridge. Have to undo the evaporation tray and carefully unclip the evaporator pipes. You can then access the drain hole and clean it with a cotton bud. This will allow the condensation to drain out and evaporate on the tray as it's designed to do.

  • @nomadrrek7029
    @nomadrrek7029 4 роки тому

    Brilliant. Thank you for posting. I had exactly the same issue. It took some time to get the screws on the back plate off as I didn't have a 'square' allen key. I ended up using a chisel to make slits to get a flat head screw driver in. The drain hole had a clump of plastic which came from the manufacturing process so had blocked and caused the same issue with ice blocking it.

    NOTE: The drip tray is filling up because the drain hole is blocked. It could just be ice, or it could be some kind of crud that's found its way back there.
    I assumed it was blocked with ice because I couldn't imagine any kind of crud getting back there in the freezer. So... I ended up cleaning out the ice 3 times over a few weeks. With the final (hopefully) ice removal, I pushed a very small bottle brush into the drain hole. That forced a big nasty glob of lint-like gunk to drop out into the evaporation tray on the backside of the fridge.
    I was kind of shocked. Where could that have come from?
    Anyway. If you are having this problem follow James' directions, AND try using some wire or small flexible tool to push out whatever is blocking the drain tube.

    I can't get to the screws on mine. It has an annoying flap at the bottom of the panel that is wedged oh so tightly into the left and right sides. Grrr. BTW, if you don't want it to happen again, gently coil a piece of stiff wire and insert into the drain hole a small way so that water can still get down hole. Other end of wire, wrap around the defrost heater element. Won't ice up again. It's an industry fix for design problem

      Mine was showing up mostly on the left side, but at both of the front feet, seemingly from underneath. This is caused by the water having nowhere to go so building up in the bottom of the freezer as a thin sheet of ice that melts and then freezes.
