My recommendation for someone going through depression is to listen to Ecclesiastes and go do a mitzvah: ask a homeless person if they need something to drink, buy them what they need and let them talk and just listen or especially go to the old folks home and listen(and sneak them liquor); going to a store and telling someone they have nice shoes or are doing excellent work(even if it isn't true). Feed a squirrel, care for a random tree or flower buy fertilizing it's soil or watering it and go back and see how it's doing. Little good deeds are highly therapeutic and elevate purpose when nothing you do seems to matter. To that sickly dry looking plant, you become it's entire universe. Help those who can't help themselves and let Hashem handle the rest. Look around, the kingdom of heaven is before you.
Another one knocked out of the park!!!
