Greetings to all fans of Marillion, from Chile here we send a warm hug to all marillionistas the world and that this music will last for generations and not die ever, truly, I tell my 2 year old loves treme Marillion is called Valentina, best regards to all from Talca, Chile
Except he only wrote the lyrics. And I'd argue that Hogarth is as good or even better. Season's End is the best album they ever made and the lyrics are stunning. Holloway Girl. Easter. Seasons End. The Uninvited Guest. I rest my case.
Fish is what made me. Marillion+Fish was a revelation. A guide trough tuff times and random periods of growing up; from child to men. Best handbook on life and love challenges I had to go trough. Nothing else had this impact on my life.
This is the best Fugazi version with an amazing full of soul Steven Rpthery´s solo, love that guitar taste from 5:40 till the end, hats from Mexico City
Sat with the man stood on the edge of the stage in Edinburgh mouth open wide heart beating in time with the drums mind blown with his lyrics listening to him even now thinking that even today his lyrics still mean something for are we all not living in a world that is Fugazi and are we all not someones Forgotten Sons
Fish was an incredabile song writer and a very charismatic frontman. I'm really glad I met him and the band several times for some great and wild after show partys in 1982 and 1983.
I saw Fish and Marillion in separate concerts in 91/92, this concer would have been amazing, he was at his best, the bass was on it, guitar, everything perfect but for a few harmonies, still best live singing performance
Went to see them Saturday in Cardiff after 33 years. I was at this gig, first I went to at 15...amazing amazing - still sounds quality. The Scottish poet.
Great Pics posted. Many memories..... I was fortunate enough to see them a few times in their hey day. Those were the days, I was 18 years old and ready to conquer the world.
In That Years i was Orphan of Mr Gabriel and Genesis. A Friend of Mine come one day with Clutching at Straws: Take, he said, this is for you. They are the simple version of Genesis, is for people like you that miss too much Mr Gabriel. I still Listen to them, but i think that you can like this band. He was right, i loved Marillion, Fish Era, for many times. And then, all gone. But, Hey, that's Life.
I have seen Marillion Twice back in 85 . Knowing Script for a Jesters Tear and Fugazi by Heart , it was hillarious to see the shocked Faces of (mostly) Girls who actually came for Kayleigh and Lavender witnessing the Greatness of Songs like Garden Party, Assassing or Chelsea Monday ! Good Times Indeed .
What a great poet. I agree wholeheartedly with those who proclaim that Marillion is not the same without Fish; while they've done some good albums in his wake (e.g. Brave), the heart and soul that was, in the Big Scotsman's own words, "a Marillion marker," went out of the band after Clutching. As with Floyd after Waters, the philosophy and poetry left in favor of "pleasant listening." Not too many remaining in today's musical marketplace who can hold sway over such passion, depth, scope, or cultural reference, to which Fish can lay claim. Long live the Jester...
The poets all went into hip hop but the different music made for a generation gap, which is bad for everybody. Makes music seem cyclical - like fashion - rather than a continuum - like art.
Remember seeing them at Edinburgh Playhouse and coming out of the concert thinking they could not get any better playing classic songs like this one....a year later and Fish had left and it was the last time I saw them, still grieving now but thanks for posting this.
Was there! My friend worked for EMI and gave us a demo tape. We were hooked and went to see them at Hammersmith. Saw them at Nostell Priory after and then Fish left. Seeing them in their new guise in our home town soon.
Great version of this song, this world is totally FUGAZI and it is yours, yeah just what I wanted for Xmas Fish a *)&(()* up world. Still sins of the fathers and all that. I'm with you I've been looking for the poets, prophets, and visionaries since the early 80s too....
WORDS AS TRUE NOW ,AS MUCH AS THEY EVER WERE BACK THEN ..(now tell me who else can put words together as good as the only ALL SINGING ,DANCING SCOTTISH FISH )
I "accidentally"caught them at radio city music hall in N.Y.C opening for RUSH.I didn't know who the opening act was.it was mind blowing i had never heard of them before that night, needless to say I am a fan.
the 83 tour with rush,, yeah they blew rush off the stage even with all the assholes in the crowd, it was the power windows tour,,,working man was long over
Became a fan myself at that show but Twas ‘85 and it was the Misplaced Childhood tour. …Easy on the claim they blew Rush out of the water- impossible feat, every musician recognizes this- and Rush went on for 30 more years TOGETHER, to write epic albums after this; too many to name. Yet, I grew very fond of Fish and his musical and literary approach and remain a fan. Great band. The world is definitely living in SNAFU at the moment, so naturally this song came to mind and here I am…
I was there too, my first Marillion gig - hence mind-blowing = ) Sorry to ToonHuAnimation, they certainly didn't film this gig, and I don't think any show on the tour. The whole show is on "Early Stages : Official Bootleg Box Set" disc #5. Marvellous.
Yeah man I know what you mean. I got to know Marillion personally back in Feb '82 when they were still a small band touring intensively trying for the breakthrough, which thankfully finaly came.
I was there, and how is this possibly nearly 30 years ago ?!? Would pay whatever you asked to be back at Hammersmith Odeon for that night on the Real to Reel tour.
Why is EVERYTHING good in the past? The BIEBER - GA GA crap that passes for music today will never come close to the talent that bands like Marillion had! Can you see anyone looking back 25 years from now and saying shit i wish Justin whats his face was still around cranking out those AWESOME songs? Todays music is like fast food...... quick, cheap, and not very satisfying!
There was crap around in the 70s and 80s, I could spend a long long time reeling it all off but people who lived those times will remember it well, unless they now have dementia. 🤷🏻♂️😂
Indira Gandhi was definitely one of history's poets, prophets and visionaries. I particularly admired her compulsory sterilisation programme in the 1970s.
i dont know man. this is just music, poetry, art, class, all wrapped in performance. my 10 yr old daughter listens to bieber. but if i have her and her brother get into queen, or marillion or genesis--it takes some time--but they start to see the true artistry. in fact, my daughter is questioning bieber et al......a start.
Just try to close your eyes and let your soul reach the highs provided by the temporarity given by your heart driven by the unstoppable time. Fly and enjoy!
+James Bryce. I have friends who still go to see "Marillion" tour but I just can't. For me, Fish WAS Marillion. I saw them live about 6 times in the 80s, they were amazing
jeff bauer I saw Fish solo a couple of times in Cambridge and he was pretty good but nothing compared to the halcyon Marillion days. It's strange listening to this thinking, "my god, I was actually there that night" it's a little aural time machine that takes me back to being 19
now 2023 we all were fugazi, this world is totally fugazi
been listening to this since I was 20, now late 50s still absolutely amazing
One of the best live bands ever.... I saw them 6 times in the late 80's.... Fish was god.....
Greetings to all fans of Marillion, from Chile here we send a warm hug to all marillionistas the world and that this music will last for generations and not die ever, truly, I tell my 2 year old loves treme Marillion is called Valentina, best regards to all from Talca, Chile
this is tremendous. fish is without doubt the best songwriter around for the last 30 years... no one to touch him... pure genius.
Except he only wrote the lyrics.
And I'd argue that Hogarth is as good or even better. Season's End is the best album they ever made and the lyrics are stunning. Holloway Girl. Easter. Seasons End. The Uninvited Guest.
I rest my case.
Some 25 years ago, I started listening to Marillion as a young lad. Still love these songs, still know them by heart!
The lyrics apply as much today as they did nearly 30 years ago......thank you Fish, a true visionary !
the world will always be fugazi
Not to deny Fish's visionary skills, but fucking humanity had a big deal in it! :-/
I was at this show, support band were The Cardiacs - glad to hear it sounds as good as I remember it.
Was he as huge as he appears to be in the photos?
Best live version ever
Greatest poet of our generation
I love this song too !!! Great Song !!! Salud y Vida Pa'lante !!! Cheers and Life On !!!
Fish is the Shakespeare of prog!
As Peter Gabriel in Genesis and solo way but to me Fish is Sublime !!!
This is great even for this band and this song. This world is still Fugazi.
Oh my god, this takes me back. I was at this gig. I had such a crush on the lovely Fish
Wow...Marillion fish years...so awesome , wonderfull and powerfull
Great Pics posted. Many memories..... I was fortunate enough to see them a few times in their hey day. Those were the days, I was 18 years old and ready to conquer the world.
4 years too late but snap, same age, same passion, turning very nostalgic...
In That Years i was Orphan of Mr Gabriel and Genesis. A Friend of Mine come one day with Clutching at Straws: Take, he said, this is for you. They are the simple version of Genesis, is for people like you that miss too much Mr Gabriel. I still Listen to them, but i think that you can like this band. pete GAB is great voice the first !
Great days. Still love the band.
I have seen Marillion Twice back in 85 . Good Times Indeed .
One of those songs where the live version is just superior in every way to the studio one.
Definitely the balls of the album...he made four MASTERPIECES in just over five years ....LYRICAL GENIUS...
I saw them in concert Poznan 1987, amazing, I'll never forget
+Grzegorz Rojewski Ja też :)
Brixton academy 86, bloody marvellous
One of the great songs from the Classic bootleg. One marillions best ever live recordings.
Masterpiece!
Marillion without Fish is like a fish without water.
The poets all went into hip hop but the different music made for a generation gap, which is bad for everybody. Makes music seem cyclical - like fashion - rather than a continuum - like art.
I used to think that, then I changed my mind.
I genuinely want to like the post Fish stuff but unfortunately it just doesn't grab me. The music lost its exhilarating, dramatic aspect.
Remember seeing them at Edinburgh Playhouse and coming out of the concert thinking they could not get any better playing classic songs like this one....a year later and Fish had left and it was the last time I saw them, still grieving now but thanks for posting this.
Best version of all time. Great audience singing at the end. Simply fugazi.
This world has gotten more Fugazi
just one of
the best ever...rock on!!!
Cudowny utwór z genialnej płyty.
I do love Fish, most admirable person in the music industry. Just ADMIRABLE. I wish Marillion would have gone a little further though. :)
Was there! My friend worked for EMI and gave us a demo tape. We were hooked and went to see them at Hammersmith. Saw them at Nostell Priory after and then Fish left. Seeing them in their new guise in our home town soon.

the world has gone Fugazi!
This world is totally fugazi - AND THIS IS YOURS .....
Pandora's box of Holocaust gracefully cruising satellite-infested heavens... What must that man have read in his childhood to make up such lines.

There is a interview in which fish was asked what Fugazi meant and his reply was exactly what I said earlier.
Fucked up, got ambushed, zipped in.
Eu adorava estar aki neste concerto...fick
Best, best, always....:)
the bloke shouting "get tae fuck" at 0:09 is class
Sorry, I can't deal with Marillion without Fish.
+James Bryce They all are great mucisians but Fish was the diamond on the ring
same here!.......and I just "discovered them ( recital of the script) a month ago !.....if only I knew of them in the 80s......
+James Bryce. I have friends who still go to see "Marillion" tour but I just can't. For me, Fish WAS Marillion. I saw them live about 6 times in the 80s, they were amazing
Ms Molko I would have loved to see them circa 82-84. FISH seemed to have lost his charismatic stage persona after that.
