Our local vintage Honda guy retired years ago so my ‘81 CB900C has been sitting in the garage for the last 5 years. Your videos gave me the confidence to tackle the carbs, brakes, shock seals and other “stuff” on my own and now I’m riding it almost every day. Thanks for the knowledge you share so freely.
He's got a fever and the only thing that helps it is a yard sale with a "will it run" project. Unbelievable how i get into these projects, like a game when you are setting on the edge of your seat. To me it's like helping Ninja on TV getting through the course, turn my body, hold my breath, eyes fixed on the screen. I'm part of it. yeah!! Thanks so much Mustie1.
No phoney deadlines, no drama, no so silly wanna be celebrities, no crap at all, just Mustie doing his thing in his garage. If only tv producers watched Mustie's channel they could learn a thing or two about how to make quality entertainment for all of us mechanically minded dudes. Thanks Mustie once again and hey, you must be due for a summer holiday by now?
You know what, I totally agree with you. No bullshit TV might get me to actually watch it again. Until then, I am more than happy with Mustie. Like someone else said, it feels like you are in the garage with him. I often find my self wanting to reach into the screen and give him the third hand he sometimes needs.
Hey Mustie, Every viewer felt that same sense of self satisfaction that you felt when that engine fired up. Bringing back great memories of riding the Honda single 4 strokes of the 1970's. I remember all my fellow riders on 2 strokes laughing until theirs flooded out the first time they spilled their bike while my little 4 stroke fired right up.
Love this guy... I am envious of his ability to take items that were discarded and bring back to life. In a day and age where most things are disposable, it is really neat to see things back in usable manner.
I’m retired so I have a lot of free time, I had been watching mabe 4-5 hours of TV a day . But sense I’ve discovered your channel, I have replaced at least 90% of that TV time with your videos and have much more entertained. Actually thinking of discontinuing my TV service altogether. Thanks for such a great product and informative content.I hope you continue providing this wonderful service, you’r truly a gifted artist, mechanic and problem solver. Your efforts are enjoyed by an ever growing following, thanks Muetie1.
Hey mustie you may say we helped make a difference to you're life but you also make a difference to ours and I know I speak for most if not all here when I say your content is appreciated and the work and effort you put in also is. We enjoy what you do and how you make us feel part of it by talking like we are there lol I talk back. Please never change what and how you do things.
Hello Mustie. I'm in the process of bringing a 1969 Honda CB 160 back to life. It belonged to my best friend who died in Feb. 2018. So it has been and emotional adventure trying to get it running after sitting for thirty four years. It was really fun to watch your video, because you remind me of my friend and how we would be fixing our motorcycles back fifty years ago. Keep up the good work as it has been fun to watch.
I've seen hundreds of comments praising Darren's skills as a mechanic and I agree with all of them. But I can't help marveling on his skills as a teacher and as a videographer. When he finished that Cushman and was test driving (joy riding) it, he did a shot of the engine while going 30 mph using one outstretched hand while steering the scooter with the other. Francis Ford Coppola would be proud to take credit for that shot! Keep up the great work!
Ive been a little critical in the past about " too much talk not enough doing " content on many YT channels, so its a pleasure to come across your channel that really does stuff and chats about it at the same time. Many channels spend too much time telling the viewer about stuff without actually doing stuff. Im sure I speak for many of your subscribers when I say your content is great. your style is balanced and informative and you do real renovation which we can all learn from. Great work ….thankyou.
I really like you're steadfast approach to troubleshooting, with all the calm, cool and collectedness of a stroll in the park, and none of the tool chucking fury I tend to exhibit. You are the ying to my yang.
I dismantled the carburetor on a dune buggy this past weekend; I used the knowledge I gained from you to complete the task. Simultaneously, I taught one of my three sons, my eleven year old (he’s doesn’t remember buggy running), how to do this work and why it needs to be done. Thank you for inspiring me to tackle this task because I normally steer away from small engine tinkering; we had a blast! Unfortunately, the shutoff valve was broken, so we weren’t able to cold start the engine, but it will be accomplished one day as I’ve ordered a replacement part. Peace-out!
Thank you for sharing the project with your son! My Dad answered many questions as I stood on a stool to peer over the fender of our 1954 Oldsmobile Super 88! Then my kids helped with projects and enjoyed the quality time learning with Dad the Motorhead! Be a Good Dad!
I just loved watching this old bike get back to life. Here is someone after my own heart. Thanks for setting it all up and letting us walk through it with you. What pleasure.
Between my health and taking care of my elderly parents watching you do this is like therapy for all the things I can no longer do or can’t because of a lack of time. Thanks!!!!
What sorcery is this?! You're a freaking Wizard man. I do believe that you have more mechanical aptitude in your pinkie finger nail than the majority of people in the US. In fact you've most likely forgotten more about wrenching than most ASE certified mechanics learned in their career. What you do is amazing and an inspiration. Please keep it up and never stop shooting videos. ps: I can't wait to see the beaver on the water
Exactly what I've been doing all week... 1979 trail bike rebuild.....got a good spark, carb is rebuilt and stopped leaking... idles and revs well, gears all work. (really low gears) now need to figure out why the lights don't work..... fun fun fun..thanks for the inspiration.
I have taken the carb off of my Honda C70 (1st time carb work for me) and am going to attempt to clean it up myself. Float had fuel in it and I only knew that this was a problem from watching mustie. I may never be a mechanic, but feels good to try to fix it myself. Thanks Darren!!
Great to see it coming back to life, that satisfaction is the same for any of us that work on old gear, whether it is bikes, cars, tractors, old radios, TVs or computer equipment. The only difference is when whoring on electronics you DON'T want to see smoke!
Thanks Mustie, we all love the first time it starts. I use an 1/2" drive Inline Ratchet between my drill and socket, so if it starts with drill, it doesn't kick..
You inspire us with every (engine) rescue. After watching your videos, I got a free lawnmower off Craig's list. The owner said it had some kinda carb problem and wouldn't start. I said great and loaded it up. Half an hour later, I was mowing the back yard with it. Thanks!
Another basket case brought back from the brink of death and the junkyard. Great job musti. Can't wait to see you puttering around on the trails with it
Hey I met this gentleman at a car show at skips hamburgers in Massachusetts! Very nice guy. Amazing talent and skill. Saw his split window and old bikes. I’d def like to see his shop. Glad I found this channel from Reddit. Someone was explaining about this guy that’s works on air cooled VW from New England I’m like it’s gotta be him. Yep it is!
The thing I don't understand is why would you watch someone doing something constructive, imparting information freely and without being condescending in any way, includes the viewers in the process and gives time to answers their questions, and then hit the "I dislike this" button. Why, just WHY???? Spread the love not the hate. Mustie, please for all us out here that need people like you, keep doing what your doing and in the way your doing it.
Your videos have helped me breath life into one chainsaw, two weed eaters and two lawn tractors. Thank you for the lessons. I watch your videos every evening you post a new one. Keep up the great work!
That brings back fond memories. I had an XL250 of similar year - that clunky exhaust system was just like mine. And a friend had a TL250 much like the one you've acquired. Loads of fun running amok around Percy Priest Lake in Nashville.
The best!😎🤔 By the way, you mentioned how rewarding it is for a mechanic to revive an old bike like this or any previously doomed dead vehicle. You thanked all your viewers for all the positiveness and kind remarks and for the subsequent many subscriotions. But most of all what struck me was the tone in your voice when you sencerely mentioned that we all had changed your life around! I just want you to know that YOU have also turned my life around. THANKS A MILLION AND STAY SAFE AND HEALTHY AT ALL TIMES Cheers, Gordon
It's true..that feeling of bringing something back running..when it was a discarded pos laying somewhere is a feeling that is hard to explain, and the reason some of us do that wrenching. Don't forget rear shocks on your list, although you probably have those in the horde, as those seemed bad. Crusty looks so right..and so nice parked along the water like that, it's like a scene from way back when, and then a artist capturing it just made it perfect. Love that thing, lol, and have been keeping my eyes open for them too!
Oh boy! 5th in line! Cleaning up those points was basic bike maintenance in “the day”. I was 20 in 1976 ,had bought a brand new ‘76 Yamaha RD 400c, first year production, paid $1,389.00 (Canadian!)that went through point sets like water over Niagra. Every week/10 days was about it, mind you, it was a simple task to do. Yamaha finally got it right a few years later with CDI coming in, but hey, it was a good time when a bunch of guys with “rice burners” would get together and tell lies about how fast their bikes were and do some wrenching on the oil burners. Miss that little rocket 😢🏍🏍. Keep on with these very informative and memory jogging vids !!
Michael Wojciechowski I was in the Navy in Japan in 70. I ordered a Honda 350 SL from the dealer outside the main gate for $500 and 100 for shipping to Norfolk when I got out. Had lots of fun with it. Would not run with a battery I learned!
I bought a Suzuki 250 in 78 when I was stationed in Norfolk. I had to adjust the points every 200 miiles.I used to everywhere at 85mph. Now I have a 150cc bike I have gone metric and am happy at 85 kph.
I got a point's file, dug it out the other day - not seen alot of action lately! Points and distributors seemed to take up a lot of time back in the day!
Hey Mustie. I used to buy stationary engines from the Great Dorset Steam Fair and other such events. I would stick them in my little shed/workshop and bring them back to life. I had to move home and no shed now. So now I watch you do all the hard work while I sit back with a coffee :) Love the videos. Thank you.
Hello from Nashua! Always stoked to be notified of a new Mustie1 video. Started watching the first half before work this afternoon and here I am, a full shift plus overtime, at 3am watching the second half. I’m hooked. Keep it up man!
Mustie thank you for inspiring me to get back in the garage and wrench again ,your video's have given me and my kids so much pleasure and guidance.i can't thank you enough .xx
Your videos are easy to watch, it's kinda like if i was over at my buddies house helping him on a project type of atmosphere. I can also agree with the joy of taking something that is broke and making it useful again, hard feeling to top.
I saw you have the drain valve, on your model of ultrasonic cleaner too, now what I did was attach some clear hose on it, and a paper fuel filter, I put the other end in a big can that can hold 10L of fluid on the floor and let it drain into the can and the fuel filter filters out particals and cleans the fluid pretty good and then I just fill the tank back up, I do that every week or so depending on the use it gets..... Just a tip and idea for you.
Thanks for these videos. I have three running XL250 bikes and three extra engines that I have to go through like this. Learned allot from you my friend. Look forward to more videos on this bike when you get around to it. Thanks again!
Make sure you don't get any parts from caltric, I've had good luck with various other aftermarket. But caltric is no good. Again, love watching you. I've learned lots from you.
I "always" love watching your "bringing things back to life!" videos. Kinda reminds me of when I work on things that I've been able to do the same with. Only most times it is a computer-related piece of equipment. Thanks for the shares and I look forward to what you add to the end of the videos. Cheers :)
You have an Awesome channel Mustie, I Always look forward to your videos. I`m stricken with arthritis & can`t do much anymore. Your videos brings a little excitement into my life, for a little while at leasr. Thank You for sharing your videos, and allowing us to hang out with you. ATB
You're thanking us but let me thank you sir ! I've learned quite a bit watching your channel and very much enjoy watching you get something running that other people gave up on .
you're honestly the uncle I never had. I drive a VW golf R and I love bikes. if I could go up to uncle mustie on the weekends growing up I think I would've had a much better childhood than I had. thanks for being such a great entertainer and genuinely nice guy.
You've got to love those old Honda's, this one will be awesome to ride in the back woods. Awesome find, awesome job. I can't wait for you to tune it up and put a chain on this bad boy.

Hey you made it start and run through the gears its a good one. I love to hang out with you in your garage and work on old stuff. I cant hit the play button fast enough.
I never can get thru one of these without smiling at your success! Thanks for producing some of the most interesting and entertaining videos on UA-cam...I look forward to every one.
You're a mechanicing warrior, all to your credit that you keep trying when most would be firing up the crusher , I knew you'd win the battle againgst the great scrap yard in the the sky.👏
I applaud you for taking on a trials bike. As a teenager, I worked in a Honda shop and I remember riding one of those. They are really fun to ride around hills and rocks and such in a trials way, slow and no feet touching the ground.
Great job! I love seeing old vehicles given a second chance.I think its that little bit of mad max i think we all have inside of us.if its old n rusty i instantly fall in love with it.i would probably walk past a spanking new super car without a second look just to go and see some rusty old piece of crap " )
Love to watch. I wish I'd not left that mower on the verge now. Should have taken it apart. I think I'll keep my eye out for some free stuff to take apart.
I’m new to you’re channel and I gotta say I really enjoy watching you do your thing. Great attitude and nice and casual, just like it was working in the shop with my dad. I love working on the old stuff too, thanks for the great videos keep them coming 👍😊
Our local vintage Honda guy retired years ago so my ‘81 CB900C has been sitting in the garage for the last 5 years. i have a real good set of carbs in my hoard from a 900 bol d or .. but in new zealand ..
@@PabloDiablo682 absolutely. I love how he edits his videos. The viewers very rarely miss out on the technical stuff but he often skips the drudgery.
That's awesome! Good for you! :-)
Mustie1 is a true garage hero!!

Like someone else said, it feels like you are in the garage with him. I often find my self wanting to reach into the screen and give him the third hand he sometimes needs.
TV today is social engineering disguised as entertainment.
Love it. Great learnings ... I use to ride one and thinking about picking up an old one. This new bikes are WAY too much $$$
You should see my backyard, reminds me puting shit together!! great fun!!

Hey Mustie1... I get a kick out of you giggling every time your projects turn over. Your uncontrollable giggle makes my day. Thanks.

Most comprehensive detailed demonstration of reviving a seized engine I've come across. . Great job watching from Philippines.
Great job. I love those old dirt/trials bikes. Thanks for taking the time to record and share with us.
Thanks!!!!
Timothy Hartzell respect Tim respect.
Do what's important Tim, Mustie is always ready when you can afford the time. Like Corey said, much respect, my friend. Chuck in NE Kansas
find time, cuz it will add years to your life
Video therapy.
70 years old boy from the bush but still learning all the time enjoy your videos so much thanks for sharing
I enjoy how you talk to the camera. thanks for including us
Couldn’t agree more with the final comment of the satisfaction of bringing something back to life. Very rewarding and great to watch 👍
I am an ASE Master Technician and I could not agree more. He is absolutely brilliant and his knowledge is humbling.
Exactly what I've been doing all week... 1979 trail bike rebuild.....got a good spark, carb is rebuilt and stopped leaking... idles and revs well, gears all work. (really low gears) now need to figure out why the lights don't work..... fun fun fun..thanks for the inspiration.

mspysu79 yep, the dreaded smoke "genie" is always bad news when working with electronics.
As someone who would love to have his own garage but doesn't, these videos help change my life. So thank you Mustie1 :-)
Can't wait to see you puttering around on the trails with it
It’s always a pleasure to see you resurrect a abandoned machine and make it come back to life. My old CB-350 will live again too!

I'm restoring a DT400c that I've had for about 35 years. Almost done. Just trying to figure out the correct yellow paint match...
KC inMN DT? Was that the Dirt/Trials bike?
Your videos are so calming to me. I usually watch em before bed cause they are so calming but very interesting and i learn alot from you
You always have that great mischievous laugh every time something fires for the 1st time.
you have the best videos....I can't get enough of what you teach and do.....thanks Mustie....
Hey Mustie. I used to buy stationary engines from the Great Dorset Steam Fair and other such events. I would stick them in my little shed/workshop and bring them back to life. Love those old bike that come back to life 👍🏻
"Oh boy that might be an issue" - love the understatement.
Hello from Nashua! Always stoked to be notified of a new Mustie1 video. Started watching the first half before work this afternoon and here I am, a full shift plus overtime, at 3am watching the second half. I’m hooked. Keep it up man!

08:27 "I feel like a doctor". That cracked me up! Perhaps because I'd recently had my yearly checkup .. haha
Birds of a feather flock together. You mentioned we are an awesome group. An awesome group appreciates an awesome individual.

Another great project. I’ve watched them all. Thanks for everything. Often heard in our house “What Would Mustie Do?” 😎
Dude, great job! You changed my life also, brother!

You're a mechanicing warrior, all to your credit that you keep trying when most would be firing up the crusher , I knew you'd win the battle againgst the great scrap yard in the the sky.👏
You do things the logical way mustie1, I enjoy watching you.
I applaud you for taking on a trials bike. As a teenager, I worked in a Honda shop and I remember riding one of those. They are really fun to ride around hills and rocks and such in a trials way, slow and no feet touching the ground.
*sticks finger into carb intake*
"I feel like a doctor."

Awesome little bike love watching ya wrench in the shop.
Great job! I love seeing old vehicles given a second chance.I think its that little bit of mad max i think we all have inside of us.if its old n rusty i instantly fall in love with it.i would probably walk past a spanking new super car without a second look just to go and see some rusty old piece of crap " )
Brian Retro I like 'old' stuff that's seen some action. I hate having new stuff and being the first to put a dent or scratch on it!
Thanks for taking me back 50 some odd years, you made me smile.
Dang that was the nastiest carb ever. Awesome vlog as I learned something to help this “Weekend Wrencher” 👍

I really enjoy your videos!! I get great info on some of your projects. Keep up the great work!!!!
100 psi of compression! I had no idea all that cranking and lubricating would improve it that much. You are one smart cookie.
