idk why I watched this, half if it doesn't apply to me because I live in Denmark, where retirement and health insurance are covered by the state and credit score doesn't exist. The other half is irrelevant because my personal economy is very healthy. All pretty solid advice though, especially the advice to cook yourself. It's healthier and so much cheaper it's not even funny. I managed to live on just 25DKK ($3.5-ish USD) a day while saving up for a new computer in 2020, it's such an effective cost saving measure.

Home made food really is the goat. Rice, tuna, corn and oatmeal ftw. xD If only I could keep my binging under control sometimes.

$3 to 5 a day is crazy, Is that including rent?

    • @plebisMaximus
      @plebisMaximus Місяць тому

@@BowOneFire Nah, that's just food. 4 times as much if we include rent. It wasn't fun, but it's doable. Baking bread is shockingly cheap.

Good advice. I live in Belgium so credit score doesn't apply here. Making food at home is the real mvp. This week I had a relapse and ordered food everyday. With all that money I could've ate 2 weeks instead of 4 days. I don't own a car since I live walking distance from work (but got an electric bike). The last 2 months I got my brother living with me (wanted trying "living on his own"), splitting bills really does help. Saving 300 euros every month into a brokerage account. Checked and rent comes at 33% (rent + appartment complex bills). Don't own a credit card cause I can do everything with debit. So all in all doing pretty good. :)

At this point, we can't rely on individualism to increase our personal wealth. We're getting every dollar wrung out of our paychecks for necessities like living indoors, eating food, and modern necessities to participate in society like electricity, Internet, etc. you can't work an extra 40 hours just to get ahead because you're robbing yourself of your own humanity in the process. We need to reign in the forces that control these necessities and put caps on what they can reasonably charge.

Investing is a feat basic start. You shouldn't expect to make the same as a second job but it's a way to make money expand in the background. It's also a great motivating factor to help you save more. There are many ways to invest some less profitable or risky than others. Just start small and research till your ears melt.

Great video, good points. only thing i disagree w u on is that its cheaper to eat unhealthily than healthy. Easier? yes. but if your diet consists of normal veggies, basic bulk-bought carbs (rice, bread/flour, tortillas, potatoes) and cheap protein sources (lentils, beans, rotisserie chickens, tuna/sardines) its extremely easy to eat a very healthy diet with 0 processed foods for $100/mo or less provided you know how to cook and are cool with meal prepping. processed shit isnt filling and is crazy expensive.
I also think itd be worth talking ab in some future video how to keep utility bills low. i guess its somewhat intuitive but if u know tricks/advice on that id wanna hear

8:10 I had a coworker who did this and guess what? When he moved to their, other people moved nearby and the cost of rent went up. The same with the commute, the money saved by moving into a different apartment was offset by 1. rent going up and 2. the cost of the commute.
Edit: MOST PEOPLE DON'T HAVE A POOL AND HOTTUB!
Edit: 10:33 no thanks, after seeing the muggings happening on the busses and having it where IF YOU TRY TO TAKE ON THE PERP YOU GET IN TROUBLE WITH THE LAW, no thank you!
Edit: 15:49 now a days this is true yes, back then it was cheaper to get some fast food. My guy whole foods you're talking about are costly depending on where you are, are you high?

5:30 Seems you are conflating two things here. If you pay under the minimum payment and owe money then you get hit with a late fee and a late payment really hurts your credit score. Nothing about keeping the account active, except that your account could be closed for inactivity, but that generally takes 6+ months.
Main reason to point this out is someone might be under the impression that you're "forced" to spend monthly on each credit card account you have, but that is not the case.
18:26 Wow it's been so long since I've seen the old diamond ore texture.
Besides that one thing, this is a pretty good intro to personal finance.
