I'm so happy that he mentions the "screaming teenage girls". Sadly there are so many artists these days that are bothered by their fans and even make fun of them. He acknowledges the fact that we are in the moment (at concerts) and we can't contain ourselves and the fact that he understands and is thankful, warms my heart. Fuck I love them.
+Wei Luo LMAO I JUST WROTE THIS DOWN... "music for me is a very very pure thing. I like the divisiveness of my band. the idea of provoking ambivalence in somebody really scares me. that's what I fear. I don't fear pissing people off for being myself." one question...why couldn't you just rewind and find out for yourself?
@@chioma916 maybe she/he doesn't know English (like me lol) i mean, to me its hard to understand his words, but if they're written its so much easier to understand
I always have had a huge admiration for his mind. He's the kind of person I can imagine to have the most immense understanding of how the world works and of people in general- It sounds cheesy, but I would absolutely love to hang out with him late at night and get drunk or high and talk about the universe.
I love watching interviews of new musicians/artists that I'm into. It brings such a new perspective to me of them to see their own thoughts and views on things.
everybody's talking about how they would like to just have a long conversation with matty he's so smart and I'm like yeah he's so smart that's why if I did, I would sound so stupid he'd probably get pissed 😂
Not only is Matty one of the very few artists who understand why fans love The 1975, he also does not generalise to just be "screaming fans" he knows there's more to fans than screaming. I intensely listen to every word he says, every word Matty says becomes enraptured in my mind. I love how intellectually he speaks, he is so articulate and speaks with so much depth with such concise but massively effective words, he is a very good-looking man but his intelligence and articulation and explainations is the most attractive quality. I would love to know people as prestigious and intellectual as this man, I'm sure he could teach me a lot. I like to think I am articulate but whenever I listen to Matty speak and hear how he beautifully he intertwines his words with each other I quickly become insecure of my vocabulary. My words are shit right now because I havent slept lmao, apologies.
"I think that the way that we all live our lives is that there's a spotlight on now, and the past is a kind of fuzzy memory, and the future is a kind of vague uncertainty. It feels like it could only have been a story; that I made it like this because this is a story. The 1975 is a story. The lyrics are a story. My life is the thing; it feels like a story that is constantly going on and I only realize it moments or chapters in retrospect. "I don't know whether I'm actively trying to subvert pop music. Things with pop music for me: the reason that we reference the 80's so much is not because of particular bands or particular songs. It's because of a time when pop music wasn't so encumbered with self-awareness, and fear, and cynicism. Records like 'So' by Peter Gabriel were coming out, 'Tango in the Night' by Fleetwood Mac. Amazing records that could almost be considered as supermarket favorites, but also really, really credible forward-thinking pieces of work. That doesn't really exist as much anymore. The stuff that's on the radio and is massive is tarnished with a lack of credibility, because, fair enough, there's a lot of shit. People don't know what they're allowed to like because it's really difficult to see what's a genuine expression and what's just something that's a commercial statement. Cause that's the thing with pop music with me: even if it's on the radio, the only question I ask myself is 'Do you believe it?' because if you believe it, there's probably a genuine process of sentiment behind it. "There's fans of ours that I meet that are far smarter than me. Of course they scream and they go wild, but if I was young and really, really excited and drunk and my favorite band was there, I'd be screaming and going wild. I'm not gonna apologize for embracing this kind of intense emtional investment that i get from people. I could be really, really concerned, and really wanna appeal to the kind of crusty, liberal, North-London kind of demographic, but trust me, if you do what I do every single night and you get the choice to play to that group of people, or a bunch of screaming younger girls, whatever, who fucking love you, you're gonna choose that one. It means more. It means something to those people. "When I'm making a song, I'm not thinking about anything apart from the pursuit of it. It's not thinking about 'This'll look good with a leather jacket,' like, do you know what I mean? Music for me is a very, very pure thing. I like the divisiveness of my band. The idea of provoking ambivalence in somebody really scares me. That's what I fear. I don't fear pissing people off from being myself."
I went to that show at the rave and they were amazing. I also got the change to meet Matty and he was so much kinder than I thought he would be. I went up to him timidly when it was my turn for a picture and he just grabs he into a hug, while saying "Come here darling", and kissing me on the cheek. He is so genuine and real. The 1975 will always hold a special place in my heart.
this is a short video but this struck the most among all their interviews that i've watched. Its beautiful and powerful. It made me love him more. And jesus christ superstar! Matty's so hit on this one. 💖👌👏👍
I've been slowly falling in love with The 1975 over the past year and this much I know is true - Pop stars like Matt Healy do not come around that often. And it's been a long time since the charts have seen someone like him, too long.
Note to all future interviewers. Just let the man speak. Take photos of him just being and just let him talk. No repetitive, dumbed down questions. No uncomfortable Q&A. Just listen to him. Watch him. He is art. HE GETS WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A FAN and makes being a fan of them worth it over and over again. This was fantastic.
Wow just wow! What an amazing thinker he is, its hard to say i have come across any artist so far with such a grasp on the culture he is surrounded by and his band and what it means and what it doesn't. The way he talks about their fans makes me feel very important you know the fact that he gets us and we get him is so special to me. So excited for the Somebody Else video to out in mid July since you wrote the story line I'm sure it will be incredible! I had the lucky opportunity to see them live and i hope i can again.
this is genuinely my favorite video ever and it’s literally at the rave the main concert venue in my city that i literally have been to so many times ugh
He is stunning ❤️ not only bc the way he looks and how handsome he is, what left me speechless is the way he thinks, how he talks and sees the world. I found breathtaking his mind and soul 💕
he put that in the best terms possible.I couldn't have said it myself any better between pop today and pop back then..I'm just thankful I was around in both times so I truly understand where he's coming from and he's right
Matty just seems to get the world. I know he probably doesn’t and he probably has a lot that he doesn’t know, but he is so smart and so philosophical and I just love him
the way Matty thinks and the way the 1975 think is so special and complex, and it's such a mystery to me. their minds are so open and they've seen and experienced things most people haven't, and it's so wonderful that they can share those experiences in interviews such as this one. I don't know, I'm just really grateful to be able to witness the beauty and the complication that is the 1975.
This is so fucking good!!! i mean not only i love when people are so passionate and interesting like matty but even the photographs and the video is so well done.. i would love to see a longer version and maybe a series of interviews to artist... this is the great beautiful stuff MTV this is what fans want not some stupid unrealistic reallity tv shows.. please bring back the art and music.. that's why you're call mtv.. at least here in latinamerica i want more than 2 hours of playlists
I'm waiting for him to write a book about life, I bet he has the answers to everything or even if he didn't he would sure make me believe he did. His level of just expressing himself and ideas are so high bet they would be illegal by the FDA
aww look at him being a rockstar. sometimes I get so nervous when he does things like this cause I know he gets nervous and so we're both nervous and ugh god!😭😭😭 but he looks so good and well and happy and it makes me happy.
I'm really glad he embraces his fans in all honesty, he is our king and he has such an influence on all of our lives. He offers us such a raw and different point of view and teaches us lessons and shares his mistakes with us. We learn so much from this band, how to live but be cautious and genuinely enjoy life as much as be skeptical about our current media climate, thanks Matty, George, Ross, and Adam. You are our kings. We soundtrack our lives to the 1975
this will always be one of my favorite interviews bc It just encapsulates this lovely enigma of a band so fucking well!!!! god my true loves, these men
I love this guy.. I wish I liked their music, I've tried really hard but truth is i don't. But Matty really gets it. And I appreciate such an honest approach to pop music.
Mentioning Tango in the Night by Fleetwood Mac...I'm instantly in love with you. I am a new fan of The 1975 and am enjoying all the various interviews.

Oh he is quite aware

edd1EroxPwDblah well what do you think?
I literally feel like he uses SAT words in his normal vocabulary 😂
It's best he doesn't.
Matty's glasses and leather jacket killed me AvA

i really frickin appreciate the acknowledgement, credit and validity the 1975 / matty give their fans. they know, they really know.
this is the most important interview of the 1975 that there is
You mean of Matty Healy? This was not a 1975 interview.
+Amanda Corinne matty represents the 1975, he is talking about the band and there ain't hardly interviews where the rest of the band speaks so yeah
Natii Natiis Which is disappointing.
I found this pretty deep
same
it's so deep, i can't roll in it. XD
What a beautiful portrayal of what The 1975 is all about
this is a short video but this struck the most among all their interviews that i've watched. Its beautiful and powerful. It made me love him more. And jesus christ superstar! Matty's so hit on this one. 💖👌👏👍
i mean "hot"

He is seriously a genius, this interview was perfect
I want Matty and Tyler Joseph to have a deep conversation
I've been slowly falling in love with The 1975 over the past year and this much I know is true - Pop stars like Matt Healy do not come around that often. And it's been a long time since the charts have seen someone like him, too long.
when someone is able to put into words the feelings and thoughts you have everyday

Ambivalence: the state of having mixed feelings or contradictory ideas about something or someone.
god i love this man,i could hear him talk for hours and hours
Matty just seems to get the world. I know he probably doesn’t and he probably has a lot that he doesn’t know, but he is so smart and so philosophical and I just love him

He's the kind of man that you really want to love for the rest of your life
The "breather" in between all the hate and bigotry thrown around on these videos! Thanks MTV News.
Amazing to listen to as a songwriter myself
I'm waiting for him to write a book about life, I bet he has the answers to everything or even if he didn't he would sure make me believe he did. His level of just expressing himself and ideas are so high bet they would be illegal by the FDA
