    You're such a hard worker Hermoine. Those old houses can be cleaned and cleaned and cleaned and when renos are being done, they get dirty so fast. But, this old house is you first home purchase, so I'm sooo happy for you ♥️

    The kitchen is going to look marvellous! I also have a plain white kitchen with a wooden worktop. Always looks nice yet cosy. Not too white. :) I like to watch people renovating houses though I know this is an awful lot of work. :) Sending you all my best renovating vibes for the rest of the house.

    When I moved for a long time they had cardboard boxes taped down on the floors to keep them clean and prevent paint drops till everything else was done. Good luck with everything the house is looking so good so far!

    You should definitely put the handles on the top. We investigated it so much when we got out kitchen installed and the middle panel isn’t As strong as the top.

    Unsolicited advice: always always always clean top to bottom. Clean upper shelves before lower ones/floors, skirting before floors, etc. Learned that a few years ago and it was a game changer! I’m LOVING your Chanel and these RenoS,

    One tip my mum and I always do is to lay down old bed sheets and rags on the floor to help catch any dirt and spills when we have construction workers or handy men in to do work. We might still have to vacuum a little bit but it's far easier when most of the mess and dust is being caught in the sheets, and then we can just shake them out the window~~
    Good luck with the house~~

    • @animeducky9
      @animeducky9 6 років тому +3

      You say that, but I've known people who've redecorated without laying down rags and have complained and been surprised at all the paint flecks in their carpet. Heck, one of the rented properties I used to live in had paint splatter on the carpet and the landlord tried to blame it on my family when we'd only just moved in xD

    your house is coming along beautiful..I feel for you we bought a cheap rundown home and reno it down to the studs,we did it slowly on our days off and evenings but it took a year and a half..we sold our other home to move in the new one in May,we weren't expecting our first home to sell in the first month so we had to move in our new home not completly done and hubby had to leave for work for 2-3 months a week after moving in,so the house will have to wait for him to get home.

    I think it looks like you have a Henry hoover, it's the best one we have found for hoovering up building/plaster dust. Just replace the bag before it gets too full / loses suction. We had a Wickes one and the filter clogged after 30 seconds on plaster dust. The Henry just keeps going and going.

    Your house is now looking more like a home, congrats on all your hard work! For the past three years, I have been working on my own old Victorian home which was vacant for about 8 years, so I totally understand how slow the work progresses. In the end, it will all be worth it, so keep it up!

    I started this series while I was still looking for my new home! I finally have it and have moved in. We didn't have near as much work as you did, but we did rip out the whole kitchen. (there was 7 layers of flooring on top of the original hard wood o.o). I can't wait to see the end results of your home!

  • @chocjamie

    At least it'll be easier to clean up next time since you already got the oldest dirt scrubbed off. I've heard it's best to clean from the top downwards, that way if you have dust or dripping dirty water etc it doesn't go onto where you just cleaned. It's cool seeing the progress you're making!

    we have a cleaner in the U.S. called 409 man that stuff cuts through dirt and grease like a hot knife through butter. the skirting boards which we call baseboards here, look like the need to be stripped. but man what a hellish job that would be. your home is looking so good. can't wait for the finished reveal!! great work!!

    A trick for sticky grease is to use any kind of cheap kitchen oil (like vegetable, canola, etc) and it will break it down (like dissolves like). You'll have to go in with a bit of regular cleaning solution or soap afterwards, but it's worth it not having to scrub as much to start with.

    Everything is looking lovely. Was slightly concerned as it didn't look like you has miss coated (watered down paint) on your freshly plastered walls before painting them properly, (I may have been mistaken, and i apologise if I missed it but it could flake off easily without doing this stage first). I've also found when I've been renovating that a product called elbow grease (in a yellow bottle, Tesco and home bargains sells it) is really good for grime. Best of luck with the rest of your renovations. x x
