I guess she was touring with Australian Pink Floyd ? If so they came around here, but I blew them off because of the price of admission. It was a lot for a cover band, so I was thinking, but after seeing this I might have been remiss.
Just listened again ... Clare Torry was an absolute genius! Those vocals!! She just improvised for PF. Her voice the perfect instrument to complement PF, and The Australian Pink Floyd Show have absolutely nailed it!! Brilliant performance! xxx
Being Pink Floyd fan for over 40 years and therefore very picky about tribute bands and especially with songs like these, I can only say: What an outstanding performance! You made my old eyes water and until now only Clare Torry could do that. Rick would certainly have been pleased with this!
There is a you tube video of Clare Tory explaining how this came to be. It appears she walked right into the studio with no knowledge of What Pink Floyd wanted and they told her that it couldn't involve words. She only did two takes of it and the producers wanted more but she said her first version couldn't be surpassed and she left thinking they wouldn't even use it. She was surprised when she was on the song and they used her first take. I thought about that awhile and it still amazes me that the human spirit is and/or can be so creative. This song to me and most others is all about death but its also about what leads up to death. Her voice and the voices used after her are about the anguish that comes knowing you are dying and accepting all be it reluctantly. What raises the human spirit in this song is that it can be so creative as to transfer words (Or sounds if you will) to simply pure emotion. After listening to this, is there really ANYTHING you can say in the written word that would illustrate this any better? I think not!
That is correct. The very first one was "the one". And she made 30 pounds for the job, during the summer 1972. Later, in 2005, she sued Pink Floyd and the record company to be granted as a co-author. She won and they gave her 10 million dollars, good enough for her deserved retirement.

These musicians are not imitators -- they are "ghosts" of the essence of the real Pink Floyd. That Ola Bieńkowska is simply amazing and must have studied Clare Torry's performance beyond what many before her did. She was probably not even born when "Dark Side of the Moon" was released by Pink Floyd. She deserves the applause. Bianca Antoinette does come very close to perfection here as well. But correct me if I am wrong....on the original "Great Gig In the Sky" Clare Torry sang all the parts. There weren't two vocalists. Many times in these performances, it's always two female vocalists sharing the chores. If I am right, then Clare Torry is an unbelievable artist. I will admit -- this live performance by these two women and the band, is beyond just excellent. Very impressive.
Clare did indeed sing all the parts. She was amazing. and still is. Unbelievable vocal range but she was a session singer then and paid very poorly for it. This is without a doubt (100%) the best version of this song live anywhere to be found!! Close your eyes and listen too the original album cut and do the same to this live version. Musically, as good as it gets on this planet with call earth. Peace!

I did not like this song when I first discovered DSOM. 20 years ago. But certain songs grew on me over the years. This one for sure. I didn't even like money outside of the quick quip lyrics. I love em both these days. It just took TIME--LOL
loving the pink floyd puns
