There's nothing better than a tandem bike. We don't use our single bikes anymore because a tandem is much better for a couple: 1.) both can give their best and they reach their destination always together. No frustration. 2.) Talking together is very easy. No shouting, just normal loudness. 3.) Yes, the stroker doesn't see much in front - but my wife enjoy to look to the side for minutes to watch nature or take their hand from the handle bar to relax. 4.) MUCH faster than a single bike and due to this much longer rides. 100km a day are not so much to us.. Even good amateur bikers have no chance against us and we are not very trained bikers. 5.) Just much more fun and a real team feeling :-) We love it!
After 20+ years of riding mountain bikes my wife and I just recently got a tandem and so far we LOVE it! I'm already looking (ie: dreaming) about upgrading!

Tandems are for unique and lucky individuals that find someone that they actually want to be that close to for long periods of times. I have never met two people riding a tandem bike that I didn't immediately like. I envy that.

I like to refer to Tandem bicycles as "Relationship Accelerators"....what ever direction your relationship is going, a tandem bike will get you there faster.
My grandpa has one from the 1960s and it’s 2020 and I now just got to ride it it’s the best it’s all about trust n teamwork I call it tnt it’s fun but I do better in the back cause my grandpa has 40years with it cause he got it at a garage sale and now we ride it all the time it’s fun and try the tnt method ok thanks
We've been happily riding a tandem for over 25 years and toured through Australia, NZ, Canada, USA and a lot of Western Europe and we wouldn't travel any other way.
Hello Geoff. I'm looking to buy a folding tandem. Besides the folding part, everything else is a compromise. Heavier Weight, and 20 inch wheel diameter and only 8 speeds. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
@@josephbloughes8640 We have a Co-Motion Mocha Co-pilot which fits into 2 suitcase for flying.( no excess fees) or the back of a mini cooper. I've seen them as cheap as $2000 on eBay but ours is custom made for us as i'm tall and she at back, isn't. Bike friday are a good option but the smaller wheels mean they're skittish in the corners and cornering speeds on downhills are a lot lower than a standard wheeled bike. Have a chat on the tandem facebook group or the tandem section of bikeforums
The actual problem with tandems are if you take off and Stoker's feet on the pedals you can get banged up Shins. Also some people have different Cadence. Addmotor makes a good bike for that that you can pedal at different rates

if you mean by stronger you mean actual muscular strength within their legs...I guess maybe that's a theory. ...but... if "stronger rider" means the more experienced, more skilled bike rider (which would usually equal better coordination & handling abilities) than no, you want that person to have the controlling handlebars & vision. It's necessary for the captain to communicate to the stoker so they work together...then you have happy tandem riding.
is riding tandem solo more comfortable then regular similar bike due to its length? meaning, can.absorb more bumps like longer cruiser bikes....anyone?
Don't know about that, but there's a lot of extra weight. I went on a group ride and a guy rode a tandem solo because his regular bike was being worked on. He had to pedal a lot harder than everyone else.
They also are not cyclists! NO cyclist would drop a bike like that.

Plus that's a fairly decent quality tandem. Doubtful someone would just give it away.

the heaveir and ideally stronger (upper body mostly) would ride front......tandems take a lot of upper body to pilot safely
