yes as good as Series X and PS5 graphics are, they are already a full generation behind pc on release. Raytraced games on console barely hit 30fps or have to run at 1080p, mostly because there's no DLSS comparable feature from AMD yet. They really should have had that capability.
RTX 3080 for instance can max a game out and have full raytracing and still hit 60 fps at 4k with DLSS. By the time next gen consoles come out in 5-6yrs (I don't think these ones will last 7yrs again), we'll have graphics cards with over 100 Teraflops of graphical power, probably with over 100 gigarays of raytracing as well (talking RTX 6080 most likely)

or at the very least not give SONY and Microsoft access to your top die resources you planned for your own products (Ryzen, Radeon).
PS5 and XSX could have been built off a special 12nm die through Global Foundries, and freed TSMC to produce the Ryzen CPUs, APUs, and Radeon graphic cards.
The more I look at this it just seems like an insane business decision by AMD to do it how they did, which not only hurt the consumers that included all the PC enthusiasts, but as well as their business partners SONY & Microsoft with the supply strain. It's now hurt AMD's bottomline, letting Intel race back up and beat them in marketshare again.

Most games have DLSS atleast most new upcoming games. Of course 2 or 3 or 5 or 10 years old games will not have DLSS. So far all new AAA games got DLSS: The Medium, Cyberpunk 2077, Death Stranding, Watch Dogs Legion, Mount and Blade 2, CoD Cold War... So we can assume all new upcoming AAA games will get DLSS support. In my opinion AMD should act as fast as possible if they don't want lose the GPU war. Is scary what a jump we got in quality from DLSS 1.0 to 2.0 and if we get DLSS 3.0 befor AMD has a answer is over. The gab will be to large DLSS 2.1 already today looks awesome (is not perfect) is almost native resolution quality in some small cases is even better and reconstruct details native resolution had missing. Upscaling is clearly the future and AI is a huge part of the future aswell... We already see AI in self driving cars. In my opinion AMD should have a DLSS answer befor they even had a ray tracing answer. Nothing against Ray tracing but most people prefer DLSS over RT and I'm one of those people. The requirements for using RT are too high but DLSS is a feature I really want I don't want live without AI upscaling.

Timmy Joe, my man... I'm sorry, but you dropped the ball on this video. DLSS is awesome on the games it works on. Those are far and few between though. It's honestly not enough to sway my decision as things sit right now, IF I were in the market for a new card. I'm not, because there isn't a market right now. But say they were readily available to purchase at msrp, I'd probably still pick the AMD cards this time around. They beat/compete at all the price points they were intended to, the extra VRAM is always a good thing. I still don't care about ray tracing, DLSS isn't widely adopted yet so until it becomes a standard, it's still not something that will influence my decisions. The only game that DLSS 2.0 is on that was on my list is Cyberpunk, and it's such a hot mess right now that I refuse to spend my money on it. I feel like you're doing your viewers a bit of a disservice here, gotta give this one a thumbs down mate. Sorry. 🤷‍♂️

IDK, somewhat disagree about the 'fine wine'. Only about 20 games support dlss so far. We're talking a few years.... by then I'd expect Microsoft has their AI based 'upscaling' and for AMD to improve their software. Also... not forgetting AMD's 'GENERIC' upscaling software, currently is pretty good. (better than dlss1?) Hard to predict the future, but I wouldn't be surprised if the 'realtime upscale wars' was won by 'GENERIC' compatibility. If it's even 'won' at all.

On a different note, I dunno...I feel this one it's hard to call. I just think the RTX's 3070 8GB graphics buffer could prove to be a serious limitation for 3 years time, never mind 5 years even with DLSS 2.0. But I do agree with you, the Nvidia lineup has the better chance of aging better given it has the necessary working features right now. But I can't help but feel that this generation of GPU's will not age well.
But funny how times change as in the early 2000's both AMD and Nvidia did tricks that resulted in barely noticeable reduction in graphics quality to try and gain an advantage over the other. People where not happy about it. My oh my how 20 years can change that. :-)

We all made fun of console games using dynamic resolutions or chequerboard rendering techniques to try and claw and cling to that "4K" resolution.... and now Nvidia bring use DLSS which requires bespoke additional hardware built onto the chip in order to work, which is basically cheating and suddenly its "fine wine" and its amazing... blah blah blah. Using DLSS and comparing it to an AMD card is literally not even a far comparison, you are NOT running the game at native resolutions and therefore you are giving an unfair comparison. And this isn't coming from an AMD fanboy I own both an Nvidia 3070 and a 6800XT and the 6800XT is by far the better GPU, its not even close. As well as your admittance to picking Nvidia everytime. Not to mention DLSS does not look as good as the same fps in native. I've been using an EVGA FTW 1080TI for years now and love it. I'd say the Nvidia features are very nice and handy to have but not at the pricepoints we are seeing. Many of the most popular games that exist are also not AAA titles and don't have DLSS so this is also as you stated a moot point.

But really, all we've learned is that if you render a game at a lower resolution, you get better framerate. Neither of these cards is a bad option, well, paying $2500 CDN for a 6900XT is a bad option, but that's the market we live in right now.

NVidia developed DLSS to allow GPUs to more easily render game environments at extreme resolutions.
You are basically arguing that we should compare a naturally aspirated engine with a turbo by turning off the turbo.

@@paulemillevasseur7622 Thats an inaccuracy. I am stating that we should compare a naturally aspirated engine vs a turbo by not making the naturally aspirated one drive flat terrain while the turbo is on a steep hill headed downwards. DLSS 2.0 is applicable in, what, like 30 titles so far? And how many of those are going to peg out at 144hz 1440p max settings with an rtx 30 series anyway ?
I've also been able to handle more than a few RTX cards and I can assure you that when using DLSS 2.0 the noise generated by it is quite noticeable when different textures overtake a part of the screen when running 1440p. I've heard that 2.1 helped with this but that doesn't change the fact that you have to pick and choose specific games that benefit the card in order to capitalize on DLSS. Traditional rasterization is getting old don't get me wrong but as of right now it is still the best way by which we can measure raw GPU performance.

I'm gonna say that in a lot of rasterizing titles and higher resolutions the 6900 xt smokes the 3070. I do notice blurry images while using DLSS I prefer a cleaner image since I game at 3440x1440. AMD needs to have there super resolution out this year in order to compete with Nvidia and I think they need to clean up there driver support. With RDNA in both consoles I can see the 6 series improving and maybe having an advantage in future titles. I will tell you that the 6900 xt was not worth the 1100$ that I spent on it I even sold my rtx 3080 to a friend to be honest in which I regret that I didn't keep that card because I don't think I've gained anything through it.

The reason the Xbox and Playstation launched around the same time as Big Navi is because it would be extremely bad PR for AMDs Radeon division to have consoles with AMD hardware that support Ray-Tracing but not AMD GPUs and Big Navi simply wasn't ready in 2019. Its also not up to AMD as to when the PS5 and Xbox launched, obviously thats up to Microsoft and Sony. AMD will make more money from providing chips consoles than selling CPUs/GPUs to DIY PC builders so pioratizing the provision of console chips is just buisness. While DLSS 2.0 is an impressive feature it has limitations. Its only really useful at higher resolutions (1440p/4K), at 1080p its degrades the image quality too much in most games at this point imo. Its also still only available on a relatively small number of games, same will Ray-Tracing. Nvidia cards do have better features and considering how Big Navi cards are selling way over MSRP they are also better value right now, the downside however is the lack of VRAM, not much of an issue right now but that might change in the next few years. Overall Ampere is a better option than Big Navi right now but not by much if prices normalize, thats a big IF though 😕. Simply writing Big Navi off especially for the reasons given in this video is kinda stupid to be honest.
