    01:10:20 Update: Personal opinion, I no longer recommend MANGOES (or their sister restaurant upstairs)
    It's not uncommon for employees to work 55-60 hour work weeks and have to sleep in the kitchen/restaurant due to living so far away. They charge tourist rates for food, but pay their staff very poorly.
    I don't think is fair, and for that reason, I don't recommend enabling this behavior.

      Sorta, we have cats and dogs running out in the streets but is mainly because people are careless and they don’t take care of them or they let them go and some others well they feed them and keep them out in the street so they become the barrio’s pet

      Thanks for your comment. I do think it has changed but not too much. There are some different restaurants/bars than before but many of the same are still there. It will be interesting to see what the new 10 years holds as change is inevitable. cheers.@@s34nTravels

    Thank you for the video. I was born in Peru but raised in the USA, so I don't remember anything about Peru, to be honest. Appreciate the video since it's close to where my mother bought an apartment (10 mins) recently for when she visits. I plan on going there in the future, so this was a nice watch. Even though I am Peruvian, I would feel like a tourist since I haven't been there for around 2 decades and I don't really understand the culture. Great virtual tour, I will subscribe.

      A lot of people have said the same thing to me, with all the changes! Especially Miraflores and some of the places down Arequipa avenue! I have a video running down Arequipa avenue to Lince and into Lima Central from Miraflores, so maybe you can see if that has changed much too!

    Peru, 🇵🇪 also known as the millennial country of CULTURAL DIVERSITY and 5,000 flavors. And currently with the best restaurant in the world "Central" by Virgilio Martinez. It is the only country in the world with at least 8 types of cuisine: Creole, Marine, Andean, Amazonian, Nikkei, Chifa, Vegetarian and Haute cuisine. And CEVICHE is part of the Marine cuisine of Peru. According to the Guines Record, Peru has the record of 491 typical dishes, thus becoming the country with the largest number of typical dishes in the world. It also has 2,500 native soups, 250 desserts and more than 3,000 varieties of potatoes. We can feel proud that God has blessed us with a gastronomy that is unique in the world. 🇪🇵🇪🇵🇪🇵🇪🇵🇪

      Ya basta de complejos .

    Wong Supermarket is kind of expensive, pretty much like a Whole Foods Supermarket or Zabar's here in New York actually here is very expensive if you like cheese, fish, red meats, and others goodies, in Peru you have many options if you running out of money 💰, if they offers you something in the marketplace in spanish you can say (gracias solo estoy de paso o mirando) (just looking around), for that kind of food with a beautiful view in New York it will cost you up to 200 dollars or more expensive, anyways, thanks for the long walk video 👍

    Few canned food because people cook at home, eat at restaurants and most foods are made from scratch.

    • @s34nTravels
      @s34nTravels  Рік тому

      I thought about that, but I don't think that is the reason. I still find this really weird. Mainly because fish is freely available, pretty much everywhere; yet, tuna is plentiful in cans. I'm thinking it's maybe something else entirely to be honest.
      If this was the reason, then it doesn't explain why pinto beans in tomato sauce (one can I see that isnt tuna) are imported from the US and up-charged to almost 10-12 soles.

  • @armandomori2333
    @armandomori2333 2 місяці тому

    Only cans for tuna. Its because in Peru everything grows all year round, soo there is no need to get it canned. Most also like to cook from scratch to get the full flavor. No microwave foods either

    • @s34nTravels
      @s34nTravels  2 місяці тому +1

      Yeah. It just seems like a weird cultural difference. In the UK and US, the poor or lazy people eat from cans because its cheaper. Here, it seems the opposite.

    It's not uncommon for employees to work 55-60 hour work weeks and have to sleep in the kitchen/restaurant due to living so far away. They charge tourist rates for food, but pay their staff very poorly.

      It’ll be ok… The native uprising has been more or less crushed once again, and things are returning to normal. Going to Machu Pichu might still be risky, as it is so easy to trap tourists there and make international news. But everything else is back to normal.

    En realidad no es raro que no haya mucha comiida enlatada, lo que sucede es que a la gente le gusta comer con ingredientes frescos que no tengan mucho o nada de procesamiento, lo unico que tiene mas salida es la lata de atun pero otro tipo de comida se les queda, el sabor no es igual, esa es la explicación

      It's interesting. I'm not too sure though. I wonder if it's also because there isn't a canning facility nearby? Because the cans are usually imports and with added tax, it makes it too expensive for most things.
      Other countries enjoy eating fresh, but cans are available for those people who dont have the time/skill/ability to always cook or buy fresh. They are also good for roadtripping, quick meals with a long shelf life. Thats why I doubt that it's solely for this reason.
      If cans were available, I think people would buy them.

      @@s34nTravelshace un tiempo atrás trataron de introducir estos alimentos enlatados pero fue un fracaso, el sabor es muy diferente y la gente se resiste, ahí verás los productos empolvarse en los anaqueles sin que casi salga, por eso no es rentable su venta, habrás notado en Perú que si hay algo que le gusta al peruano es comer rico, no importa sacrificar tiempo para proveerse de insumos frescos o poco procesados si con ello lo consigue, ya es un modo de vida y está incorporado ese tiempo a su rutina

      @@nataliab.5591 When did that happen? Do you have a source? I would be interested to see!
      Generally:
      Many poor families buy canned foods in the UK as fresh foods are more expensive.
      Single men use them a lot too as they cannot cook 😆
      and I see them a lot used by hikers, campers, trekkers and people like that. Carrying fresh food on a multi-day hiking trip isn't a great idea.
      I'm wondering what the alternative of those would be. (apart from the first, as I find fresh things much cheaper in Peru, which is great)

      @@s34nTravels I think is not only about cultural preferences, but also about the availability of fresh ingredients in the country. Agriculture in Peru is a very important activity that not only provides food to its population, but also for exports. There is a wide variety of fresh produce that makes cooking at home a lot more affordable than eating out at fast food restaurants. Peru doesn't need to rely on imported meats, fruits, or vegetables like other countries like the US. That's why poor people choose to cook at home to save money rather than eating canned or fast food, which are already processed and therefore, more expensive.

      Good evening, I am writing this comment because some time ago someone told me what was the reason behind the short stature in a good part of the Peruvian population (being Peruvian).
      It is the result of an adaptation of the human body for the terrain that exists in the height of the country, the so-called “Cerros”, because people had to go up and down hills constantly, an activity that wears the human body a lot, the legs became shorter to facilitate this activity, but consequently low our average height.

    • @meczm
      @meczm Рік тому +6

      @@faqks3359 I don’t think walking is the reason for being short… I think our genetics are the reason. But there’s a story about the Incas being taller than the Spanish conquers. Even if you go to Cuzco all the steps to go to the ruins are very high kind of hard to climb.

      I did around an hour of research on the internet because I was curious.... People living at high elevations tend to be smaller, due to evolutionary adaptation (scarcity of food), same with the Nepalese for example. Scientists also found a gene variant in Peruvian people associated with height. There was also a study of people from Nepal which was found that the locals have high‐altitude genetic adaptation; making for easy living and climbing at high altitudes. It all makes sense really. Interesting stuff!
