Artex - 6 scoops of bonding per bag of multi in your first coat. No need to scrape.

30 years in the trade and never known anyone go to hospital with plaster in the eye lol
Nasty when it happens, I'm a labourer and work for my cousin, he's a jack of all trades (kitchens, bathrooms, attic conversion etc) can do anything, if it doesn't need signed off on. Has a top electrician and a plumber for that. Plastering at the end of a job is the worst part for him. back and shoulder takes a beating but plaster got in his eye a couple of times and it screws up an hour or two, said it felt like powdered glass... also saw it on nick Knowles DIY SOS, one of the boys got a huge dollop in one eye, white of the eye completely turned bright pinky red, couldn't stop blinking, rinsed out in hospital and wore an eyepatch for the rest of the episode.

I have done a fair size ceiling in the past using pallets stacked and plywood top, it's a bit extra work, but the job was a good one.

Can I get some advice on ceiling please? I was trying to follow your video using gyproc skimcoat, but my first coat got hard when I was at the middle of my ceiling 😂. Could be the lack of water in the mix, or because I used a drill to mix? Also, should I use PVA if I left my first coat to dry? And is it ok to add 2 more coats on the top of my first dried one? I'll appreciate any answer on this, thanks so much!!!!
I bought a full face visor and it works a treat! Don't need to worry where head is in relation to the loaded up trowel above. Look a bit silly but rather that than partially blinded for a few week
I do really want to see you plaster a ceiling that goes from flat to slope at 45 with a curved transition zone, around 2inch radius

Bang on exactly how I've been doing it for years the only thing I've found recently the big three bag refina buckets is buy two mix up flip the first one upside down and then sit the second on top everything at height on stilts and learn to pick up toes when walking especially on dust sheets...
That's the one mate - the buckets are strong enough (but I do sometimes worry if the bottom one was to explode ha)
Your videos are great for everyone. Learning some of the ways you plaster has made it easier and more enjoyable. Is your x skim plastic or steel? I like using the ox speedskim but rafina have the better grips

Both are great but I feel refina just pips ox just because of the rounded grip
i had the exact same stilts you have for 8 years, i upgraded to surpro double braced magnesium stilts, there unreal!!!! if i knew they was going to be that good i would of bought them years ago. massive difference!

That's a different pole attachment to the Refina one I have, Mine fits straight to the speedskim, no swan neck. must be a new design.
Is it possible to skim a large ceiling or wall with a rolling gauge i.e half a bucket at a time in sections until the whole wall is done. I ask this as I will be on my own, mixing and laying on and have some large areas to do. I am not a professional. I have an uncle who uses this method but have never seen it mentioned anywhere.
iteresting subject, what about i.e. 50m2 ceiling or wall? Could be done in parts? It will be 5 bags of plaster, cant't be done same time.

Any tips for safely plastering a two story open stair wall? At least it has a nice big window 😅
If the ceiling is large, can you finish one half and then the next day finish the other half, blending into the first half? In an ideal world not, but if you are on your own can it be done. Great work Blaine 👍

You can but it would be my last option. I'd think about Extratime first to extent the mix time and then think about maybe getting another plasterer to help. Blending would be my last port of call.
I have a 25m2 ceiling that needs plastering asap if you’re interested.? Been let down by another plasterer.
Stilts are great once you get used to them. I tried them a few times (without actually plastering) and they freaked me out , once i had the trowel in my hand and had to concentrate on the plastering I forgot I was on stilts and it felt normal and was easy
So true - clear the floor and get on with it. Very scary at first but like anything, it gets easier once the mind gets used to it. Well said pal

I'm still trying to figure out why British plaster is brown and here in Croatia it's off white /cream. Same for Germany.
It's also white in the USA. I've heard that there is so much iron in the clay soils of the UK that the gypsum deposits that are mined there also have some iron. That's also why they have so many red bricks.
@@pcno2832 hmm, we have red bricks in Croatia. I think there is maybe just less clay and more gypsum in the mix. I'm curious if knauf plaster products in UK are white or brown.

Lids all day especially bedrooms then you can throw em all on at same time
Stilts weren't designed for plasterers they were for suspended ceiling fixers. Plasterers will drop plaster and water during the process of doing a ceiling. Those two combined with stilts are a recipe for disaster. If you haven't fallen while working on stilts believe me it's a game changer.
Fair point...but I stil love them. But saying that, I've never fell so that could probably change my mindset on them 🤣

Not set .. that could cause delimitation between the coats. Just as it's turning matt...never set
