I have a question (from a catholic) how can hanging out with someone you are interested in considered zina? The only people you can touch from opposite gender are your parents, siblings, parent's siblings, your sibling's children, your spouse, your children, your grandparents (your parent's father and mother) and anyone who hasn’t reached puberty. But if a person is 15 or more but hasn’t reached puberty yet, then you can't touch them.

Parents can select a partner for their son or daughter by investigating about their character, deen, education etc. Then they can arrange for them to meet and see if they want to marry. If they dont want to marry that person the parents have to bring another proposal and not force to marry any particular person.

Surah Israa: Verse 32 says do not even COME NEAR Zina. Hanging out with the opposite gender without another person as a mediator is considered close to Zina because Shaytaan will get involved in between the two. I'm not Muslim. I have friends of opposite gender and I never lost control with them. So don't believe that just being with the opposite gender means having sex or romantic relationship. Also, knowing women personally taught me to see them as individual people not only as potential breeders
The fact you need to be in control, shows how human nature is, you don’t need to be in control with men. You will always be attracted to the opposite sex hence men and women can never be friends unless they’re married. as soon as you get friendly and close temptation comes knocking in your door and you develop feelings.

Brother, Zina is complete intercourse. The things that you mentioned are condemned in islam but for example hanging out isn't zina. You have to be careful making your own rulings. That in itself is haram.
Surah Israa: Verse 32 says do not even COME NEAR Zina. Hanging out with the opposite gender without another person as a mediator is considered close to Zina because Shaytaan will get involved in between the two. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “No man is alone with a woman but the Shaytaan will be the third one present.”

At the end of the day the people getting married have the last say not their fathers. The father part is culture but you should absolutely involve your parents as it’s required in Islam but the women getting married has the final say. You cant go against her decision.
Coming near it can be a lot of things. Kissing is pretty close but at least seeing each other or chatting is may not be getting close to it. Allah has left it in a open door in a way. There are a lot of things that can or cannot be considered “Coming Near” or “Getting Close” to it.
