I didn’t know much before this video about the rebalance, but this honestly got me hyped. It all seems to make sense and I honestly think this will be really healthy for the game long term
I really like these changes. The combat itself is not more complicated. Instead, if you do your research and prep your loadout correctly, you can squeeze out some additional DPS. I feel this really compliments both casual and more hardcore players. It doesn't ruin combat with over complexity for the casual, but it also allows the hardcore player to be just a bit more efficient. And I LOVE that more weapons will have more viability. Nothing feels worse than getting a cool weapon just to realize it is completely outclassed by another weapon in every situation. Now many weapons will have some type of niche where they are BIS or at least viable. Well done OSRS team.
You're the man Kip! Again, thankyou for these videos. I'm very busy with life but still love to stay updated with the game and these videos are honestly the best out there! Thankyou
The interesting thing is that unlike god spells, standard spells can be buffed by wielding their respective tome (for example, tome of fire with fire wave / surge will give it 10% bonus damage). This ultimately leads to 60% more magic damage rather than 55% that you would have with something like Flames of Zamorak + Charge with Elidinis' Ward (f).

the bofa is still way too strong. the jump from the toxic trident to the sanguinesti staff is almost negligible while the jump from the crystal bow to the bofa is MASSIVE. even the crystal bow is too strong, in full crystal armor the crystal bow does more dps than a zaryte crossbow in masori, it's actually just ridiculous. hopefully the new demonbane bow can be somewhat of a bridge to the bofa.
A video going through the bosses with new possible metas for killing them with mage would be nice, for example the zammy flames at zulrah, ice/water spells at cerb/zammy boss/mole
Can anyone confirm if the Hunters Sunlight Crossbow is considered a heavy weapon since its ammunition is bolts? It's already a straight upgrade from the msb(i), and would benefit further from all of the heavy defense changes made :0
Adjusting drop rates doesn't just affect ironmen. If they make content more profitable by adjusting the drop rates, more people will do it which makes previously dead content more relevant.
@@nc8186 More about the Lizardmen Shamans because that's what he had talked about, but honestly, just in general. People grind a few bosses or slayer tasks that are the most profitable, then ignore the rest unless they're an ironman or working on the collection log.
So, is the Trident considered a water type spell? Or just some sort of generic magic type outside of elementals? I assume it will still be viable at Barrows, no reason it wouldn't. But Now I wonder if it would be better to just roll in with wind wave/surge.
Very sad to see the ancient godsword get nerfed and its niche shrunk even more. Really liked it over SGS for slayer but probably won’t be the case anymore.
Got my dwh right under 3k kc. Got it a couple weeks before this change, started grinding harder when the change was announced. Bragging rights secured :)
I've played this game off and on for a very long time. When they announced this update, I was worried it was step 1 towards an EoC type combat. I'm very pleased to say this is actually a step in the right direction, and the tweaks are somehow both huge, yet somehow minimal enough to not break anything. If anything, it seems this update allows for a little more versatility in all stages of pvm, while still allowing the strong endgame gear to out-dps anything else, as they should. I've not said this often, but good job Jagex.
I can't find an official post however people have told me that jagex will change to make elder maul work for chests in cox. I believe some jagex mods were in streamer's chat saying this.
17:15 I mean this as no disrespect to mudkip, but I keep seeing this argument on Reddit too and its like....how can everyone act like this was a problem when the strength ammy exists? A 1k amulet having almost double the strength bonus as bandos. And the retort is normally "well, magic is % based instead of a flat bonus" ....which means its worse. A percentage boost is situational. A strength ammy will always give you 2 max hits, sometimes 3. The occult would only give good boosts with equally strong setups. It made it scale better.
"everyone wants what's best for the game, we just have different opinions on what that is" I feel like that's probably the best kind of mindset to have when discussing these changes :) Thank you for the overview, I was waiting for your video to have your insight If I want to be lazy and not figure out things for myself - is there a particular pereson/discord to watch for what are particularly interesting changes for Iron Man? I think for WGS rewards, the ranged weapon should be a blowpipe or dart launching weapon of some sort. Now we have these ranged def changes I think it would be good to have another option for darts rather than just the blowpipe. We already have plenty of bow options and a crossbow is an easy enough heavy ranged option.
Honestly, this was all a bit of a non issue for my main. But my HCIM is still in its infancy, so I can’t wait to be able to utilise these early game changes when it finally comes to combat. It’s gonna be a nice fresh experience.
I agree, but I'm hoping they fix the other ranging items as opposed to nerfing the bowfa and replacing it with another item..which is definitely their go to..
So on the same update they made the elder maul better than dwh therefor reducing demand for dwh aswell as making droprate better so supply is higher.. So supply is up and demand is low? Price is gonna drop a lot no?
I’d argue not as much as you think. Not everyone has 175m sitting around for a fairly small upgrade over the DWH, most players will continue using DWH until they have enough gp
I'd revert the damage scaling on the Strike spells. I don't mind if Wind Blast goes from 13->16, but Wind Strike quadrupling from 2-8 is...well it's absurd. Wind Strike shouldn't have a max hit competitive with maple shortbows (adamant arrows) and adamant scimitars (amulet of power) at 40 ranged or strength. I have memories of playing F2P back in 2006, wanting to be a mage, but using Earth Strike because fire strike was too expensive. I want to protect that memory. If Wind Strike can deal up to 8 damage, it's the only one I'd use. Water, Earth, and Fire strike aren't even upgrades when I'm fighting goblins and black knights. They're just vastly more expensive versions of the same spell.
These changes are great. Now they need to do way more fun mid level bosses that have these various weaknesses. That way there is more fun content for casual players that have mid stats
I like Pokemon (maybe unintentional) reference for Metallic Dragons elemental weakness, making them weaker to Earth (ground). In Pokemon, Steel Dragons would be Steel/Dragon Type, and Steel is weak to Ground
Holy shit this makes magic even more busted in the early levels. I imagine the early game Iron meta will be air staff and mind runes. Extremely cheap with good damage against early quest bosses
Additional type defenses are my one concern here, because it's an incredibly hamfisted hack attempt to fix something by introducing a hammer instead of a knob. When every mob design looks like a nail, they'll try to fix it with the hammer instead of tweaking existing knobs. Melee already has the problem of a bunch of necessary gear (3 attack types, each with a slow/accurate and fast/inaccurate and special attack type for at least 7 niches, plus 1h and 2h to up that to 14. Some are shared, but that's a lot for a single slot.) Now we have magic that will have 4 elemental types plus a non-elemental weapon, probably all the same attack speed (why not tweak this knob? See RS3 and the dueling wand) and a special attack, then 1h and 2h. How many typeless melee weapons did we have? Half the magic weapons are now typeless. Why not add a passive to all air staves that says "air spells have a 50% increased max hit and accuracy," fire staves, water, etc? If the idea is to make standard spells competitive, then buff the standard spells to make them useful using our existing language - weapon passives. Why does a staff of air get the same 50% buff as a mystic air staff? Lower tiers should be likd 20-30%, minimum 1 type deal. Why do i get that same damage buff when i mainhand a dragon warhammer or elder maul? I can max hit a 30 with mage while wielding a melee weapon. Mage weapons staff-bashing for 30s is pretty uncommon now (SotD.) Adding 50% damage and accuracy only on some creatures isn't adding a choice. It's saying "hey this is now either still worse than other options or it's WAY stronger so you now are at a huge disadvantage if you don’t use it." That thing you mentioned about occult necklace. That, but times 5. It's now literally better to bring a tier 1 elementall staff switch for raids than a t75 powered staff. The base max hit for wind surge with a staff of air is 30 compared with the trident of the seas' 28 at 99 magic. You are now better off not upgrading any magic weapons until endgame. #variety If you're going for lore, why are basic elements given weaknesses, but not ancient elements? Why is a fire giant weak to water spells, but not ice spells? Why is a bug that lives in the desert (you know, where it's hot) weak to fire spells and not air or earth or shadow spells?
You should definitely be using a tome of fire every single time you use fire spells. It's only like 100gp extra per cast and I guarantee it will increase your max hit over any other item in the shield slot by at least 1 but sometimes 2 or 3
I hate the bowfa curse so much, I'm over 1200 cg kc without a bowfa, locked behind so many things. This will finally let me start doing a couple things, but I still want that damn bow.
They absolutely need to add a way for irons to get wraths aside from vorkath or addy/rune dragons. 95 rc isn’t realistic until very late game unless you want to live at gotr. Personally I have 183 wrath runes with 50 vorkath kills. Nice lmao
Surge spells are meant as a slightly worse alternative to late game gear like tbow/shadow/bofa. Would be way too OP if mid game irons could use wrath spells. Wave spells should now be on par with the type of gear you'd normally have unlocked in midgame range of stats
@@WildMudkip I don’t think it would be OP considering the 95 mage requirement to make the most of it, that’s not exactly a mid game level. That being said I wouldn’t want them to be totally free to get either and understand your argument here. At the very least I’d like to see the drop quantities increased, averaging under 4 wrath runes per vorkath kill is kinda silly… or maybe I’m just unlucky.
12:50 thats why i quit the game because im not wasting my life at gauntlet. i already had the sword before it came out and i know i can change it over to a bow and grind the armor shards but i would just rather not even play the game anymore

These changes are great. Now they need to do way more fun mid level bosses that have these various weaknesses. That way there is more fun content for casual players that have mid stats
I was an idiot and didn't read the blog and sold my Zaryte Crossbow when it was at 399m. Now it's sitting at 419m. Lost 20 mil overnight.
Solid video to a great update! Now if only I could get that enhanced to drop 😂
Got my first of 2 on my iron earlier 😁
@@scottfrancis995 got 2 pets within 3 kc. approaching 600 now, no enhanced.
one of the few channels that I like the vid as soon as I click it
air weakness for early game doing 8 damage with 1 mind rune only is so nice
keep the changes coming jaggy
Mage weapons staff-bashing for 30s is pretty uncommon now (SotD.)
Adding 50% damage and accuracy only on some creatures isn't adding a choice. #variety
If you're going for lore, why are basic elements given weaknesses, but not ancient elements? Why is a fire giant weak to water spells, but not ice spells? Why is a bug that lives in the desert (you know, where it's hot) weak to fire spells and not air or earth or shadow spells?
Is mudkip weak to air?
i gotta max soon before this is a entirely different game
You’re good people for this, Ty
You should definitely be using a tome of fire every single time you use fire spells. It's only like 100gp extra per cast and I guarantee it will increase your max hit over any other item in the shield slot by at least 1 but sometimes 2 or 3
Is blowpipe considered light then since it shoot darts?
Yes.
@@JoshPillault thank you ❤️
Light defence being lower than the other 2 in any case makes no sense.
would tome of fire be better than elid ward for zulrah?
never mind they nerfed tomes lmao
I think tome of fire is still best in slot shield if you're using fire spells
I hate the bowfa curse so much, I'm over 1200 cg kc without a bowfa, locked behind so many things. This will finally let me start doing a couple things, but I still want that damn bow.
thank you for making this
Disregarding the Ancient Godsword's delayed spec damage again is CRIMINAL
completely agree on your analysis of the bowfa
At the very least I’d like to see the drop quantities increased, averaging under 4 wrath runes per vorkath kill is kinda silly… or maybe I’m just unlucky.
hate the changes tbh but thanks for breaking it down spencie
Good morning mudkip
12:50 thats why i quit the game because im not wasting my life at gauntlet. i already had the sword before it came out and i know i can change it over to a bow and grind the armor shards but i would just rather not even play the game anymore
This is the kind of combat balance. I would prefer to see in video games instead of nerving the strong items in gear. How about bringing up to par? The weaker ones that no one even looks at because they're useless
using fire strike on pyrefiends was werid, this makes sense.
Great explanation!
Appreciate it!
I can't read, so this video really helped ❤
EoC taught me the only reason i play OSRS is to avoid action bars from other MMO's.
Hey hows it going :(
