  • Hey everyone! I just wanted to share my opinion on why you should replace your oil dipstick with a oil dipstick tube cap. There is a slight possiblity you can break the dipstick handle when removing the air duct to the engine air box and it really sucks having a broken oil dip stick. This is why I highly recommend swapping out your oil dip stick for the oil cap and using the oil dipstick as a standalone measuring device. I hope this helps and be sure to like and subscribe! I'll see you next time!

It's better twist and turn, and pull gentle. Awesome vide.

The caps are no longer on Amazon, you can get them on Ebay, about 23 plus tax.

Just noticed that. That's a bummer. Neither is the dipstick. Hopefully they restock them soon. Thanks for letting the community know T.

How did you get the broken one out? Can you remove the dipstick tube itself too?

This Nutz that they don't have a dipstick with the car. My mom bought an S 65 AMG and asked me check the oil. the on board computer said start the engine. I started the engine. then the on board computer said Not with engine running or something like that LOL so It's Obviously not working properly. I was however horrified to find there was Not a dipstick under the hood! The Book that came with the car does Not show a universal dipstick it shows a huge fancy red rocket ship looking device which I can't find in stores.. My mon won't buy generic stuff for this car so she's going to take it to the dealer just to check the oil!

Hi Divergent Droid! I totally understand where you're coming from. The AMG engines delete the oil dipstick for some reason. Maybe it gives the engine more horsepower lol! For standard Mercedes S Class engines, the procedure is to check the oil level from the steering wheel after the engine has been off for 30 minutes or more on a level surface. However, there is still a location for a physical dipstick. Certain scan tools may have the option to read live data and can measure the oil level. Try asking the guys over at www.mbworld.org. They might know where to find a dipstick for the S65. Hope this helps. Cheers!

@@GarageDynamics Thanks. Ya know I've tried showing the picture to many people who work on cars and no one has ever seen a red rocketship like dipstick they show in the book.

@@DivergentDroid You're welcome. Wish I could be of more help. Mercedes is like that sometimes. They won't design something for common applications. The only way to gain access to a part or tool is to practically be on their Formula 1 engineering team lol!

@@GarageDynamics My nephew who owns a used car dealership sold her a Smart Fortwo Passion cheap so she can get around while her AMG is in the shop. Yesterday she got a flat. Come to find out no lug wrench or jack comes with the car. She was lucky my nephew had a spare from when he bought the car. She called Triple A to change the tire since we had no access to the tools. They didn't have a lug wrench either that would fit and they had Many lug wrenches to try! My nephew came by and none of His would fit. He finally found a deep socket in a set of wrenches that worked. She plans to sell the Fortwo to the wife and I when her car gets out the shop. My wife is hard on tires so I gotta track down a lug wrench too. Sure you can put the spare where the small area is behind the two front seats but there isn't room for much else and there is no proper wheel well for the spare to fit in. I'm thinking oh boy.. this is gonna be another MB nightmare. LOL

@@DivergentDroid Oh wow! You might have to ask them to send you a file so you can 3D print the tool. I'll be cheering for you that you get everything sorted out with no more issues.

Um, I'm NOT going to carry my oil dipstick around with me indefinitely and hope that it won't get dirty (or get the car oily), broken/bent or misplaced. If the thing has a fragile handle, as you assert, this is an even stronger argument to keep it out of your trunk! Why are you essentially killing one bird (dipstick obturation) with two stones (OEM dipstick and aftermarket dedicated cover)? K.I.S.S.!!!

Hello James O, The same thing happened to me. Use a heat gun and apply a small amount of heat to free the rubber piece that's stuck. I hope this helps. Cheers!

Meh, that's dumb. Pull the dipstick and cover the tube next time you pull the airbox hose off. Otherwise, leave the dipstick in the engine so you can can check it periodically if you don't trust the dash readout.
