Rez Abbasi: Being True to Yourself (and Respecting EVH)

Adam Smale has a great conversation with jazz guitarist Rex Abbasi. Rez is one of the most unique jazz guitarists today. He mixes traditional jazz with rock and East Asian influences creating his own brand of fusion. He has played with other indo jazz musicians such as Rudresh Mahanthappa and drummer Dan Weiss. But still holds his influences like Jim Hall, Charlie Parker and John Coltrane close to his heart. Especially the tradition of telling stories with both his compositions and improvisations. He even shares a common influence with Jazz Rocks with Adam host: Eddie Van Halen.
