    Stropping not only maintains the edge, but it does it without unnecessary removal of metal. You can use the back side of your leather belt without the compound and still get decent results.

      you can also use the palm of your hand.
      works better on softer steels.

      You can also straighten up a rolled edge with stropping.

    Stropping is great. Helps for a long time before resharpening is necessary again.

    Time spent with Joe Flowers anywhere is worth more than stropping. Think "what is up" guy is cruising probably due to the fresh clean air..! Congrats mate, a new sub from Australia.

    I strop my knife after any real use like breaking down cardboard, whittling projects, around the house stuff etc. Helps me not have to sharpen very much at all

    I have been using strops for years on all kinds of knives and in most cases there is no need for re-profiling a knife. Sharpening knives is just about stropping. You saw it here with Ben and Joe. It just works. The only difference I see is that it is important to use both sides of the strop. The smooth side of the leather finishes the blade. That’s why barbers use both sides. The smooth side removes any left over compound and polishes the edge of the blade. Thanks 🎸🔪

    Once a weekish I run my knife along a ceramic rod a couple of times and strop with a diamond juice. I’ve never had to put it on a stone to sharpen.

    Wauw I am very impressed. That after so much abuse, stropping is enough to make it even sharper then it was 😮👌🏻

    Stropping actually has an effect even without any compound. Its effect is to deburr at an extremely fine level.

    Gotta get an Aqualore in 14C28N . Just got Trivitatta puukko and after doing some touch up it's wicked . One of my faves now along with the Tanimboca Puukko.
    BUT now that the Bushlore has been improved , I'm really wanting one . I think the Bushlore is basically a perfect design esp now that it's in 1095hc and 14C28N.

    I recently bought a two-sided leather strop with compound. I don’t have an edge measuring device, but I can feel my knives are sharper after a stropping. Would you agree that using both sides of the strop are a better sharpening tool than a steel honing rod?

    • @knafs_co
      @knafs_co  10 місяців тому

      Hey there! Thanks so much for the comment - we're glad you can feel the difference too.
      Our strop is actually designed for 1-sided use. The rough side, specifically. The shiny 'show' side of the strop has a light leather treatment to it that takes away some of the surface properties of the leather that are ideal for stropping. That said - we are sure it will still work as a strop and get results, it's just now how we designed it specifically.

    People who don't raise the handle, when reaching the belly part, to sharpen that part too, when sharpening or stroping, haven't you noticed, that the front part al lthe way to the tip, doesn't get sharper at all? You have to raise the handle up,trying to maintain the same angle, and you're raising it the moment you hit the belly, with a single continous motion as you drag the knife, and you stop BEFORE the blade exeeds the stone or strope. otherwise, you dull the tip;
    Tip for stropping: BEcause most people do it wrong, so they dull the edge instead of doing any good, try to go slow, NEVER apply much pressure, NEVER go fast. Gos slow and steardy, with a loose hand, trying always to maintain the proper angle, all the way. Always do the SAME on both sides. Doing one pass per side, helps you keep the passes even and equal. Using your bad hand when sharpening, will eventually make you better at sharpening, because that way, it's easier to keep he same angle on both sides. Believe it or not, it's more difficult to keep the same ang;e on both sides, if you only use the same hand. That one ofcourse, depends on how good is the dexterity on your bad hand, but also keep in mind, that whem ot comes to sharpening and what's more important factor, to be succesful, 70% is experience, 25% is knowledge and only 5% is tools you use. For example, you can use sandpaper, and have a scary sharp edge and a mirror polish on the edge bevel. Even if you sharpen for decades, you'll still learn something new, everytime you sharpen some knives.
    Hope this helps. Happy new Year!!
