Roger Patterson checks a nuc before deciding what to do with it over winter, and finds a couple of surprises in a colony he hasn't checked for a while.
Roger, good to see we have several overseas viewers. I was in Vermont a few weeks ago. We all have similar issues wherever we are, but I try to make the best of it. Not sure what you mean by "element", but all I do is tell beekeepers what bees have told me for over 60 years. I often get to the bees expecting to do something, but they want to show me something different. Keep enjoying it, I do. Roger
I see it now, but not easy to see with only one functioning eye! Many of my queens are like that, but unfortunately they often mate with less desirable drones. Roger
Hello from Ohio in the States. I really enjoy watching and listening to Roger. I also believe in many cases, it's the pheromones of the Queen that dictated the hive temper. I have seen that with a new Queen or after a cell hatches, the temper calms down long before any genetic change happens and recently mentioned it in one of my recent videos. Keep it up!
@@rogerpatterson3167 all I want to do is bee's, working full-time in the mines, boyfriend jealous of the bee's, taking care of my mom and grandchildren. Lol. Overwhelms me, I want more time with the bee's. Made grafts 💯 take. I hatched out early got 1 queen out of the deal. Thank you for responding. God bless you
@@rogerpatterson3167 today was cooler, I was able to check 7 nucs and added 3 swarm cells to 2 of them, also checked on 4 colonies. Was a good day and got to enjoy the girls. Have a great day, and thank you
I have no idea about queens that are being sold. I haven't bought a queen for approaching 60 years. I much prefer queens that have a history of surviving locally. Being a bit cynical, you can sell anything if there is someone who will buy it. Roger
Cheers Roger from Tallahassee. Enjoyed watching you in your element.

element = surrounded by your bees and your hives enjoying yourself.
Lovely closeup of the queen on the last but one comb. 11.04 in. Very dark colour ❤️

Thanks for the comment, though bees don't always behave as you expect. This is why I wrote the book "Beekeeping: Challenge what you are told".
Roger
Do you ever get overwhelmed. I'm starting to get stressed. 😢
Yes, I do get overwhelmed occasionally, but why get stressed? Beekeeping should loosen you up a bit - it does me! Beekeeping id fun!
