I love this game more and more after every play. Mostly we play 2 of us, but we've could testing the merge mechanic with others and it was't bad at all. I don't have the expansions yet, but i hope i'll get them soon. I tried all god's power and differrent strategys, but there is not only one way to win. Yes need to get monuments, gain followers, but we have more option to get devotion by win the battle in a region, or stand up after a lose. At the fisrt time i can't imagine how i could possible to get all the 31 devotions, but now i'll do it even in the Dynastic Unrest scenario when everybody lost 12 deviton at the "unrest" events. I happy for i've got this game, i really love to play with it!
Hey that’s awesome I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the game so much. I haven’t tried the Dynastic Unrest scenario but I’ll have to give that a try sometime for sure.
I love this game. I like that the gods are very similar except for their one unique power so this way they are mostly balanced without one god being totally OP and tailoring your play to their power. Plus, I love the lore behind the game and how it plays into their power like Thoth’s and Set’s powers. The merge devotion going to the lowest score is kind of weird but most games, it’s pretty close to the second lowest so it works out most of the time
Glad to hear you liked it, there definitely is a lot to love, sadly it wasn’t enough to make this one of my favorites but that’s the beauty of board games there’s a game out there for everyone, thanks for watching :)
Ankh is one of the worst games I've ever played. To me, it feels like a game that needs far more play-testing. The God powers are ridiculously unbalanced with some Gods gaining benefits every turn and other Gods rarely being able to even use their powers in a useful way. The very limited number of monsters that aid players are owned by the first players that obtain them which means the players in the lead pull further into the lead and thus harder for the slower players to catch up. As you mentioned, the monuments are super-important but so much of the monument building phase depends on things outside the player's control. E.G. Purely by luck of the Action table, some players will be able to have 3-4 monuments each before others even had the chance to obtain a second. It's easy to tell who's going to win each game by half-time. I suppose the merge mechanic is meant to help the players that are hopelessly losing but merging two turkey-gods does not make an eagle-god.
It’s really unfortunate when you don’t like a game that’s so expensive eh. I think a lot of people look past some of the flaws this game had because of how good it looks and how much they paid for it (myself included). You’re absolutely right though it did feel like it needed more playtesting. Each unique ability felt a lot more balanced in rising sun than this one for sure, and it is true for sure when someone is way in the lead it’s super hard to catch them, it was better with the pharaoh expansion though because you can make players lose devotion when using certain pharaohs. It’s nice and also a little disheartening to hear you agree with me on this game. Thanks for your feedback.
