The point of the spray recipe is to mix essential oil with vinegar so that the desiccant effect of vinegar increase the toxic effect on bed bugs of essential oils. Also too much essential oils in the spray mixture could damage the fabric in some cases. They use the dish soap to help mixing with the oils, and water so it will mix. Everyone saying oil and water don’t mix. Essential oils are volatile, not the same as a kernel oil, say from apricots, almonds. I worked with an aromatherapist for years and we always mixed our own concoctions. 😀

When essential oils are added directly to water, they tend to float on the surface and may not disperse evenly. That is why I told in the video to shake well before spraying so that the essential oils are well dispersed in the bed bug spray to incorporate essential oils into water-based products or create a solution, you can use an emulsifier. An emulsifier helps to disperse the essential oil in water by forming a stable mixture. Common emulsifiers include vegetable glycerin or Dish soap. That is why I told you to add Dish Soap in the video to the bed bug spray. You will be fine with the recipe in the video. I switched the vinegar to lemon juice....same properties. It worked great and it smelled great! Thank you for this recipe!
