    Thank you so much Don and James for the information! Mixed up the ingredients just as you mentioned, within minutes the bees were bathing in the mixture.

    gday mate how you doing? I'm an italian beekeeper, for hobby still, but I'm planing the step up, I just have to bee more patience.
    I want to thank you for all the videos you made.
    Most of the italian beekeepers speak just italian and they can't get those tips on videos.
    The environment is like a mafia over here.
    cheers mate, wish you the best

    I just went to Walmart online cart and added up the ingredients cost. Total for 52.5lbs of mix (25lbs of corn meal, 25 lbs of whole wheat flour, 2.5lbs of Dry Milk and 25 packets of yeast) is $80 + tax free shipping.
    Mann Lake sells 50lb bag of Ultra Bee Pollen Pro for $90.00 no tax if you don't live in Minnesota. add $11 to your order and it's free shipping. No mixing needed.
    Pretty comparable.

    I live in Utah west of Salt Lake City and I have moved my bees into a fish tank hive and this hive is in a heated shed for the winter. I try to keep the temperature around 70 degrees. Can I use this pollen substitute in a tray inside the beehive to encourage the queen to lay eggs during the winter? I'm trying to build up the population. It was a small swarm to begin with.

    Hi Don,
    Have used y'all's recipe the last two years and the bee's ABSOLUTELY love it. But this year I did not have any yeast on hand and just left it out. The bee's best I could tell didn't even notice it wasn't there, but I'm certain the yeast service a purpose. Could you please elaborate. THANKS Don!
    Very appreciative for all you do and the time you take to help all of us!
    God bless!

    Don, I am seriously considering taking your commercial bee course! In your opinion, what would be the best time of year to do this? Also, can you use this pollen formula mixed with your brood builder formula that you posted on another video? Thanks!

    Hey Don....Can you give a ballpark on how many hives this will feed?...I
    run about 6 hives....and have a buddy that runs 7....would it take care
    of both?....and how long do you keep it out?....until they start
    getting it naturally?
    Great videos as always!!!....love that you are always doing it on the cheap.

    • @txholeyrocks
      @txholeyrocks 7 років тому

      This is for outdoor feeding. I don't know of or have heard of dry granualated food inside a hive. Pollen Saks are typically filled outside by foraging is why. I don't think you'd want dry as it could turn to mold with a bit of moisture.

    • @fineshooter
      @fineshooter  7 років тому

      you do not want to add extra moisture to the hive in the winter. Stick to dry feeding if you have to

    Southern Ohio Honey Bees is right,they will hit livestock feed like crazy when there’s no other source of protein available. Thx Don and James am using this recipe now(2-08-19) here in ky and my bees are tearing it up!

    49 degrees in Seattle, mixed up the exact pollen sub, including the exact brand of yeast, corn, flower. Bees have had zero interest. Perhaps later in the year? Also, cost was $25 for 11 lbs of the mix. Megabee = $25 for 5lbs.

    • @theoeicher
      @theoeicher 7 років тому +1

      I tried again today, 55 degrees, lots of activity, and even orientation flights. No interest. There is NO bloom yet in the Pacific Northwest. Could it be that different bees have different tastes?

    • @fineshooter
      @fineshooter  7 років тому +1

      they use pollen for the new brood or baies and that temp they are not using much for that

    I'm no pro or scientist, but I can't see how this is nutritional or healthy to feed the bees. What is the goal with this mix, a winter dry feed? In most climate zones on January 17 of any year aren't we expecting our bees to stay clustered, protecting winter brood and the queen? Isn't the best feed during this time in the winter the honey they have in the hive, and if that is diminished then fondant or sugar? Can't yeast in the guts of bees during the winter cause bees to defecate in the hive possibly causing other diseases to spread? Can you come back and discuss the value of each of these ingredients and their benefit to bees and how this combined recipe results in anything other than a large batch of unleavened (no sugar to activate yeast) cornmeal bread if water is added and the mixture is baked?

    Per research on the net, bread yest is the wrong yeast for that.
    It needs to be brewers yeast.

      J & B Homeliving every recipe I've seen calls for brewers yeast, soy flower, dry milk. I'm guessing they're using what they could find at the local grocery store 🤔

    What's the difference from a Pattie on top of broad frames
    To stored pollen in frames???
    Same same ..
    Still attracts beetle and wax moth.

    My friend I thank you for the wonderful videos. I have been studying an article that said this is a product of genetic engineering. On Pepsi Dr.Pepper and 1000's of items now. I watched a great video called Seeds Of Death on youtube. Another was called genetic Roulette I think. My Point finally is to open your eyes to the fact that over 90 percent of the Usa Corn and Soybeans are genetically Modified. One way the corn was modified was to kill the worms that eat the corn and another was to make the corn roundup ready. So you can spray the Roundup on corn and it lives but all other plants die. Its all to be easier and cheaper. The USA has had a outbreak of our bees falling dead. They are disappearing rapidly.Also all sorts of new diseases to the population of the USA Kidney dialasis companies everywhere. The USA is the only country that doesn't label GMO but some label product of genetic engineering. GMO was said to attack the kidneys as well as cause tumor growths among many thing.Most folks that have interest in anything that matters is older and there eyes cant read the fine print.Now you add corn Meal and over 95 percent of our corn is GMO . My brother you had no idea of this I am sure but please study GMO for a while also study HEC293 . Also just type in Google search whats written on the Pepsi or MtDew can.(product of genetic engineering.) Monsanto is behind it all . Yes the one that killed all the Anniston People with 100 percent safe PCB and the creator of agent Orange ,the inventor of Roundup,The inventor of the terrible Aspartain The Head of the Food safety in washington was Monsanto former Attorney. I hope your Bees are healthy but Replace the Corn meal with Oats or something . Please study GMO's and Genetic Engineered foods as well as babies! Its near impossible to not eat GMO's but it can happen.The Bible said something like my people perish from lack of knowledge? Thanks so much and I hope this helps us .

      They will only use the sub when they have no other pollen to forage.This mix is something you want to offer when the bees first emerge after winter or during winter on warm days when they can fly. Just watch your chicken feed, when you see the bees in your chickens food dish it's time to offer this substitute.
