    As a Portlandian, born and bread, I am overjoyed seeing authentic and well-rounded appreciation of my home. We pride ourselves in being loving and welcoming. Those of us born up at OHSU are almost genetically compelled to include everyone in our culture to grow our culture with every new good idea. Welcome! I can speak for many of us in saying we are happy to have you and your family.

    I’m 25 and considering moving to Portland for a better career opportunity. Often people speak badly of Portland, but this was refreshing.

      I can’t comprehend why one would watch a video advocating to live in Portland, while having nothing good to say about it…. I guess it’s all perspective.

      I lived there for almost 4 years because of a good paying job. But the crime is ridiculous. Anything less than someone almost dying the police don’t come. Had my car broken into 4 times, one time they tried to steal it but failed. Thieves tried to break into my apartment twice while I was home. And not to mention the racist people I had to deal with on almost a daily basis.

    I want to thank you for giving a different, fuller perspective of Portland other than “crime infestation.” We certainly have problems here, but I live in the downtown area and serve the marginalized people in transitional housing. Other than avoiding certain areas at night, it’s not as bad as people claim.

    Thank you for making this video! You came across as authentic and unscripted. I have visited Portland over a dozen times over the past decade or so. As a Californian, the natural beauty and urban charm never gets old. Forest Park is a must every time I visit especially in the Spring and Summer months when the sun is hidden by the vast number of trees. You've given me some other great activities take part in next time I visit.

    I lived in the area decades ago, and sometimes I really miss it. If I ever moved back, I'd find a place in Clark County. Vancouver, Washington, known locally as "The Couve" has a beautiful waterfront that's only 9 miles from the one downtown, and Vancouver is kind of like Portland's "mini-me" in a lot of ways, which means you enjoy the amenities of the city, while still feeling a small town vibe.

    • @juliegoldbeck6431
      @juliegoldbeck6431 24 дні тому

      Sadly it no longer has a small town feel anymore. Lots of homeless camps everywhere. Open drug use, crime. Homes are 500K to start. Lack of primary care physicians.

    I enjoy living here, but Oregon came in as 43rd for education/academics in 2024. I have no regrets living here, but I don't have children in school. I wouldn't consider education here a top asset.

    Thanks for these videos! My family and I are relocating from North Texas Prosper area to Portland Metro Beaverton to be exact! I'm original from West Hollywood Cali and after 5 years in Texas we all had enough.. That said, we visited Oregon this past January and it was amazing I love the diversity, great pedestrian infrastructure and many cool unique things about Portland.

      @@halbyrd_you are doing the worst work for the area. If your job comes from out tax money it should be spent on roads.
      We don't have paved roads in a huge chunk of the city.

    • @GaryFungAutomationTest

      @@TonyMarselle Depending on ones perception of the burbs because the burbs will vary from place to place. We lived in the sticks of North Texas practically and Beaverton is crazy close to everything. For me personally, I lived on the upper west side Manhattan New York City for 9 years and I lived in Los Angeles West Hollywood so yeah Beaverton is not even close to that kind of culture and life style although, I think for us at this point of our lives getting back to the west coast vibe and for the kids and being able to be around some like minded people and culture matters the most.

      Port of Portland is closing its container business - or rather the shipping companies are - because it’s become too expensive for them to make the trip up the Columbia River when they can just disembark at Port of Tacoma and truck the goods down.

    • @larryjex6485
      @larryjex6485 Місяць тому

      The container business at terminal 6 is in trouble, but the port as a whole, especially the export side, is doing OK, especially considering that the port is 100 miles inland.

    I have a weird question about the perks of Washington income tax… is that a real thing? Could you live in Vancouver but work for a Portland business and still have your income tax? Or is it that you can life in Portland and work in Washington for no income tax?
    Or would you have to both live and work in Washington? My friends and I were talking about moving to Oregon vs Washington and that was a huge thing we were stumped on

    • @halbyrd_
      @halbyrd_  8 місяців тому

      I cannot give tax advice, but my understanding & what I've seen with clients that relocate is that you have to either 1) live & work in WA 2) live in WA & work remotely or 3) live in WA & have a hybrid position where you only pay tax for the days you work in OR but the days you work remote in WA don't incur state income taxes. Please contact me if you have more questions at 360.818.4438 and consult your tax professional or I can recommend some for you :)

Portland certainly has its problems & I'll be doing videos on that as well, but it's not all that different than what I've seen in other big cities. Also, this video address the entire Metro, not just the city.

      And don’t even get me going about Delta Park.
      Portland is a dead city. It just doesn’t know it yet.
