Communist 😳 did you mean liberal? Lol Thanks is for sharing! Definitely concerned with political atmosphere and diversity. Followed you right away because you’re the only person of color I could find talking about Vancouver on UA-cam. Just talked to my employer about moving to Vancouver (they are putting in place a work from anywhere policy), we’ll see how that goes. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I meant it sort of tongue in cheek lol & I like alliterations. Our WA ballots this last election had candidates from the Democratic, Republican, Green, "Socialism and Liberation", and "Socialist Workers Party", which I would say has more left-wing representaion. I'm not one of those people who think communism = socialism = liberal. Those are all different for sure! So in relation to Vancouver we're a very purple city in a very blue state. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that your employer keeps that same energy. If you ever want to just have a casual chat off UA-cam, I'd be happy to :) Happy to share my experience! I'm hoping to get more local footage in my videos soon. Are there any topics you want to hear more about? Or suggestions you have?
The political atmosphere in the area is terrible. There is definite conflict between inside Portland and outside Portland. Though not all "communist", there are troublesome groups of people who openly claim to be Marxists and vehemently hate anything resembling capitalism who engage in vandalism on a regular basis. It appears their goal is to chase any many businesses out of Portland as possible. It is dangerous to openly show patriotism or support of right wing ideas inside the city of Portland. Waving an American flag could get a person in trouble. Given the political tensions and the virus restrictions, the social fabric of the area is in tatters, nobody trusts anybody, people only stick close to those they know they agree with. If a physical civil war starts in this country, it'll start in the Pacific Northwest. You are better off thinking about another part of the country, this place actually really sucks now.
@@peterbelanger4094 I agree. There's a high change of a civil war starting here. If you're reading this comment, I'm warning you to stay away. Don't move here! It's a terrible place. ;)

Then on east to Hood River & Dalles? Lots of windsurfing an picture taking! Then go across Columbia to South Oregon side an take scenic route back to Multnomah Falls! It's a nice day trip! (I spent day running trails along Willamette River with Bruce Springsteen, played me music, born in the USA when we were done! Then later I read in paper where climber of rooster rock found Bruce Springsteen at the top when they reach the top!) Vancouver, Washington will always be etched in my mind, because I was visiting friends Don & Renny in Vancouver during 9-11 watching attack on Trade Centers & Pentagon!
not Vancouver BC , not Vancouver island BC which is different then the city of Vancouver BC , Vancouver island is not the city but a separate place with a city on the the southern end of the island called Victoria BC ,
That Fred Meyer is not technically in Downtown, it's in the Hudson's Bay neighborhood, which is just east of Downtown. It's close, but it's not in Downtown. Even the Safeway is not in Downtown, it's in the Shumway neighborhood on 37th, which is even north of Uptown. That being said since I made this video it's been announced that New Seasons is opening a location in Downtown Vancouver (off Main & 15th), which lots of people are excited about. I just moved here 7 months ago. I’m from Houston Texas but I have lived in and visted in many different cities in America. I have been to 23 states and lived in 4. I was in Houston for 12 years Richmond Virginia for 17 years and San Diego for two years and Chicago for two years right before moving here. I don’t like it here. People aren’t friendly at all here or in Portland. People are vey off put by the fact that I’m moved here from Chicago even tho I’m not from Chicago. I always explain how I lived in Richmond the majority of my adult life and how it’s smaller than Portland and they don’t care. They seem to really Not like people who have ever lived in a big city here. People here have not wanted to make friends with me just because I moved here. They always treat me nice until they find out I’m not from here. Or they eventually find out by payin attention to how I talk. I have a slight southern accent and people always notice it. It’s funny cuz I’m Hispanic and have a slight accident that’s southern most people aren’t expecting that XD. But anyways yeah..... I had to move here because of a job. I don’t see myself staying here once I get enough experience to relocate somewhere else
The nicest people I have met here are from somewhere else. People born & raised here?...yeah, they can be jerks sometimes. They like to blame all their problems on the people moving up from California.
It's very interesting to see this discussion. I've met great people who've grown up both here in Vancouver and in Portland and of course transplants too. Haven't run into many jerks at all personally. I'm from California which apparently people dislike the most. I've also found Portland people are more anti-Californians than here in Vancouver and I get why. When I moved from my hometown to Los Angeles, I hated it for more than a year. Almost left within that first year. It took time for me to adjust and find my place. I think that'll be the case no matter where you move, there will be a bit of culture shock. Plus, you've only lived here during COVID which may have an impact on your experience. This area isn't for everyone and no one place is perfect for all, otherwise we wouldn't be spread out all over the world, right? :) If there's anything I can do to help you find somewhere that's a better fit or make settling here better, please reach out to me directly! I'm happy to help however I can!
Lol I don't quite think that's what's going on. I think the nice people are part of the 10k+ views/month this channel is getting and you get 10 trolls in the comments 🤷🏽♀️ what can you do? Haha
I’d have to agree with those saying that people in Vancouver are less friendly than those in per se Northern Oregon. I lived in Tigard in the 90’s and have gone up to Oregon at least 3 times a year since but whenever we cross that bridge into Vancouver, we always get a different vibe from people, even up to Ridgefield. It’s odd because it’s “just a bridge”, not even 100 mile difference. It’s a nice area but definitely do research into the good and bad areas which I’m sure a realtor such as the one posting this, can guide you through. Enough ranting from this OC Californian whom is looking to get out haha.
Please don't encourage a bunch of people with a shit ton of money from California to come here and continue making the housing market impossible for young people who have grown up here to move out
Been here for 5 years, it’s boring. This is the place where people come to retire and do outdoor activities all the time. Pretty much beer and outdoor activities is all that’s popping out here. No diversity, not as inclusive as people want to make you believe. Everything is so spread out, could just be the East coast and Southern in me. Literally after hiking and beer, nobody has had good any suggestions on what else there is to do in the both Vancouver and Portland. Haven’t even found any place where the food is just amazing either. Food truck or otherwise, planning on moving soon.
gross. I guess if you're going to pander california transplants, you might as well lure the to vantucky! Thanks for visiting Oregon, please don't move here.

Is that snow in the background?
Yes, it is! We had a little 6 inch snow event for about 4-5 days. It was the 2nd snow of the season, but the 1st that actually stuck
@@halbyrd_ Thanks for the reply. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay area so I know earthquakes. We're moving to Vancouver from Hawaii soon and I am so looking forward to it. Hawaii is waay overrated.
@@darkpassenger65 same for me with earthquakes! I always say that our snow is just enough to be cute, but isn't annoying or a huge inconvenience. It sounds like you'll be getting here just in time for Spring/Summer, which is lovely. Definitely warmer than SF in the summer & less foggy

I avoid Portland. The airport area and Janzen Beach shopping are the only places we ever go in Portland. Fortunately, they are right across the river. Heck, I can get get tot the Portland airport from Vancouver faster than people living in parts of Portland.

Hi there! I was wondering how the smoke season has been? What can we expect if we move to Vancouver
By smoke season, do you mean the smoke traveling north from more southern fires? If yes, it has been mild due to the wind patterns. We had a few days of haze towards the end of summer. But this year was nothing compared to last year, due to the fact that fires were much closer than usual in Estacada
What is the easiest easiest way to get to Vancouver wa to Portland without a car? And how long will it take? Please help! I'm considering moving to Vancouver.
C-Tran would probably be the easiest & cheapest. Or Lyft/Uber

Just found your channel! I love vancouver ♥ how is the rent there? Are there a lot of pet friendly options? Me and my husband are wanting a one bedroom home.
Rent is reasonable, depending on where you're coming from. You'll probably find 1 bedroom apartments on the low end from $1,000-1,300 and you'll have some pretty nice options in the $1,300-1,500 range and of course you can go luxury and spend way more.

Is Vancouver a great place to raise kids?
I think so. What makes a place great to raise kids in your opinion?
@@halbyrd_ Just the general stuff really like good schools and neighbourhoods, Is it easy to make mix with the locals and places to take kids out. I'm from England and my partner is from Oklahoma and we have two young kids so we're looking to lay down some roots and we just think washing is such a beautiful state and vancouver being so close to Portland could also be great for work, I'm in construction and my partner in healthcare.
If you want to live in Vancouver and drive to Portland for work and back you will literally be stuck in traffic for about an hour or 2. That’s why Vancouver people don’t want to drive to Portland. What could be a 30-20 min drive ends up being 1.5 to 2.5 hours sadly ☹️ it’s gotten worse in the last couple years.
What are some tips for people interested in relocating to Vancouver, WA in terms of inventory these days? Moderately priced, getting over priced, average time on the market? Great content. Thanks! Blessings, -Kate

If you ever want to just have a casual chat off UA-cam, I'd be happy to :)
Happy to share my experience!
It's a terrible place. ;)

Have you taken road trip up north side of Columbia River going East? Check out Rooster Rock (use to be named "Cock Rock" but officials decided to tone down & re-name to Rooster Rock)!
I love your video
Thank you so much! We've been so happy that people are getting something out of our videos
not Vancouver BC , not Vancouver island BC which is different then the city of Vancouver BC , Vancouver island is not the city but a separate place with a city on the the southern end of the island called Victoria BC ,
There's a Fred mayor in DT
That Fred Meyer is not technically in Downtown, it's in the Hudson's Bay neighborhood, which is just east of Downtown. It's close, but it's not in Downtown. Even the Safeway is not in Downtown, it's in the Shumway neighborhood on 37th, which is even north of Uptown.
That being said since I made this video it's been announced that New Seasons is opening a location in Downtown Vancouver (off Main & 15th), which lots of people are excited about. Do you live in the area?
The mayor's name is Anne ;)

Coming from someone that’s spent some time there.... they definitely can be passive aggressive
I’ve lived here almost 3 years and would not ever say people here are passive aggressive. But probably depends on where you’re coming from
Yup they are.
Thank you for answering my question about walking...if public transportation is accessible then I will take it....Im really trying NOT to have to invest in a car
I know people who use public transit to commute plus biking is pretty big. Vancouver City Council is trying to encourage more alternative transportation for the long run. And Portland is pretty much the biking capital of the US.

Thank you for this informative video. Our immigration papers came out and we're looking to joining other family members in Vancouver, hopefully by spring next year (pandemic-allowing). Hope that by you mentioning that people don't want "new" persons wanting to move in doesn't extend to like, racism. Especially since there's quite a growing xenophobia in the US.

The only bad thing about Vancouver is being near Portland.
Would you elaborate? I probably share similar sentiments on this topic
@@NN-oz6rr crime rate has increased in Portland. My nephew told me two of his friends were shot dead within a few days.
They seem to really
Not like people who have ever lived in a big city here.
@@peterbelanger4094 people here to me seem really passive aggressive and whiney. What’s up with that?
The scenery here is nice a lot of places to hike especially the coast. Only downside living here are the people 🤷🏻♂️
It's very interesting to see this discussion.

As somebody who lives in Tigard it is indeed pronounced "Tiger-'d" rather than "Tigger-'d"
